I recently stayed at Ka'ana and had a wonderful time! The airline had delayed my luggage and the hotel was incredible in keeping in touch with airline and making sure I received it that same evening. Tatiana was incredibly gracious in finding me appropriate footwear for my trip to Tikal. The tour guides were incredibly friendly and so knowledgeable. We talked the entire ride about history, culture, politics, very thought provoking conversations! Room service made me a wonderful homemade ginger/lime/honey tea for my throat. My massage was heavenly and the therapist was awesome in walking me to my room (i'm afraid of critters!). Great location, close to town and nearby ruins. The rooms are spacious, clean, and the organic bath products are a delight. The grounds are beautifully maintained. I was transported as I listened to buena vista social club while having my Belizean breakfast! The only thing that would make this place more amazing would be the food. While they had some great tasty items, i wish the food was more consistent. Overall, a wonderful stay, wonderful people!

Just spent 4 night and the hotel. We have stayed at multiple small luxury hotels of the world before. This is one of the best. It's in the middle of the jungle. It is very close to all the activities in and around western Belize.

Compared to the other hotels that are also highly rated in San Ignacio, The main advantage of Ka'aana is that this is actually very close to the main highway. You don't hear traffic from the road, however, while you are there. The other highly rated hotels are actually several miles away from the main road. You will have a hard time getting in and out of the other places. If you plan in doing activities while you were there, this is the place to stay. It is also easy to get a taxi into town, given its proximity to the road. You can get taxi into town for US$10.

The restaurant is wonderful. The food is priced in US dollars and is actually on par with any restaurant in the US. The bar and the mixed drinks are wonderful. Definitely try the jalapeno margaritas.

The actual rooms themselves are very spacious. I loved the outdoor shower. Other reviewers have written about bugs in the hotel. Not sure why they are complaining, The hotel is in the middle of the jungle and there is plenty of wildlife outside, on the grounds. There were no bugs inside our room. They had satellite TV and I was able to watch my favorite sports teams from the US at night.

Tatiana is the manager and makes a point of talking to every guest every day. The staff is wonderful. They will do anything to make your stay great.

Overall, I would highly recommend, Ka'ana and would definitely stay there again.

Thank you for your review! We are so grateful for your high praise and thrilled that you consider us one of the best resorts you've stayed at in the Small Luxury Hotels group. We intentionally created Ka'ana as a resort that not only offers our guests the chance to get out and explore the region but also enables them to do so in the most convenient and comfortable manner possible. We're so glad this was the experience you had. And yes, we happen to think those jalapeño margaritas are pretty great too :) Thank you again for your very kind words. We wish you all the best for your future travels!

We spent 3nights at this resort. It was nice but very small rooms and very little lighting. our bed was squeaky tho we reported it to staff. I was pleased that we did not have any bug problem in the room which seemed very clean. They had a nice pool but there were bugs there and I got a few bites .
There was not much else to do around the hotel so we are glad we had tours to go on. Their restaurant was ok but even tho we ate breakfast and dinner there we were often disappointed with their dishes. They did have a delicious lobster salad that I ordered twice. The staff was very nice and the manager asked us every day how things were.

Room Tip: Only 15 rooms in all. They seem to be about the same. Our room overlooking the pool was quiet with n...

Hello and thank you for taking the time to write a review about your stay. We're glad that you visited this part of the country and were able to experience some of the Maya culture and activities that this region is known for. We think of Ka'ana as an outpost to adventure that allows our guests easy access to all the adventures nearby and then welcomes them back at the end of the day. I'm sorry that your dining experience was not up to your expectation and it's something we take very seriously. The lobster arugula salad is also one of our favorites and I'm glad that you enjoyed it so much. We truly appreciate your feedback and want you to know that it was a pleasure having you with us at Ka'ana. On behalf of all of us here we wish you all the best for your future travels.

We stayed in the one-bedroom villa. It was beautiful, but the best thing about it was that it came with a butler, Oscar. He was amazing! He was willing to do anything and everything we asked of him. He accompanied us on a couple of tours and even found a place (Mom's Backyard) for us to play pool - he played, too! On our last night there, he surprised us with a private, candle-lit dinner. He is just simply the most genuinely caring person!
All of the food we had at Ka'ana was fantastic, as were the drinks.
The entire staff is to be commended as every one we encountered had a smile and a few nice words, too. Just enough interaction without interfering with our privacy,
The grounds are beautiful.
We were very happy we chose Ka'ana and would definitely stay there again!

Room Tip: The one-bedroom villa is beautiful, and you should request Oscar as your butler (although we're...

Hello. Well if you're reading this review, congrats on even thinking about visiting inland Cayo District of Belize. And, if you do go to Cayo, stay no where other than Ka'Ana.

My wife and I stayed here Jan 2 - Jan 6, 2014.

We were fortunate enough to arrive by helicopter from Belize International Airport. If you are at all considering the helicopter transit to / from Ka'Ana, Just Do It! It was amazing to fly over the villages, jaguar preserve, rivers, mountains, and waterfalls of Belize...something we could not do other than via helicopter. It truly added to our trip and gave us an opportunity to take in so much that Belize has to offer.

And, then, we landed at Ka'Ana...literally steps away from our villa w / private pool. Ka'Ana manager, our butler, and full staff waiting at the helipad with a cool cocktail and to whisk our bags "all the way" to our villa. I'll never have an easier transit from an International Airport to a Resort ever again :)

Ka'Ana is all about service. Our villa butler (or rather our new best friend in Belize :) was available to us to arrange all of our excursions, meals, tour of the property, and little odds and ends that really made us appreciate staying at Ka'Ana.

Excursions: go to Tikal, Barton Creek Cave, ATM, San Ignacio Market (on Saturdays), Belize Zoo.

Food: surprisingly fantastic. We had lobster, steak, tacos, and the fry jacks...oh, my, the fry jacks!

Wine: the wine cellar / wine list is well stocked. We live 45 mins from Napa and found some of our favorite vintages in this lithe boutique resort in Belize.

If you're going to Cayo...stay at Ka'Ana...you'll be glad you did :)

K & K

Room Tip: If possible, stay in one of the two villas on property.

What a great read! Thank you so much for taking the time to write about your time in Belize and at Ka'ana. Yes, you are so right about coming to the resort by helicopter- stunning views and so green! I'm glad you were able to see the some of the country from that perspective. We really enjoyed having you as our guests and are really happy you were able to experience as many activities as you did. We love how many fun and adventurous things there are to do in this part of the country. Thank you again for very kind words. On behalf of all the team here we wish you all the best for your future adventures!

We spent a couple of nights at Ka'ana while visiting the Cayo district and the Mayan ruins. It was a great stay!!! We really enjoyed the friendly staff and great food. We were interested in seeing some local drumming in Dangriga and the staff really put in the effort to make sure we were able to see this. Everything we needed was taken care of by the staff and the rooms were very clean and relaxing. If we ever make it back to Belize we will be staying at Ka'ana!
