After 3 days of heavy rain I checked out of what could be a 5 star hotel. When you make the long drive up the hill to the resort the initial impression is uh oh what did i book. All gravel and not very pleasing to the eye. However once you enter the Cahal Pech resort it does open up to a nice environment with an open concept area with restaurant, bar, and a 3 tiered pool overlooking one of the best views of the town on top of the hill. On the hillside are several cabanas they rent as well. The staff is very good and welcoming I enjoyed talking with them. It's very strange however the rooms were a big disappointment. It's as if ownership decided to cut costs on the basics in the rooms themselves. The towels were rough like sand paper' the TV s are from the 1980s with only local cable no satellite, and the kicker get ready for this...no shampoo at all is made available. Talk about cheaping out. I asked the front desk for some and they said they don't provide it. Most of the local sites were closed due to heavy rain so i spent more time in the room than I would have liked. There was an envelope in the room for tips to the maid service a little forward i thought perhaps that's all they get. There is a nice gift shop but it was closed the whole time, not even open for an hour. I would drop in for lunch to enjoy the view but would not stay here again.

Room Tip: Book on third floor, great view of town and mountains

We only had 1 night in San Ignacio and someone else arranged our room for us. The price was too high for what we got, but the views from the room were beautiful and the pool and outside cafe area where great for the kids. We visited in off-season so it was very quiet and lots of renovations were taking place - even next door to us - but our room needed some TLC for sure. The staff was friendly and very helpful and the food at the restaurant was very good. Proximity to town, Cahal Pech Ruins and the Green Iguana Conservation Center were some of the best features of this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a newly renovated room!

The pools are great! The views are great!! The staff is so helpful and friendly!! The restaurant for breakfast and drinks is perfect. It is right by Cahal Pech and you can walk into town within 15 mins. We arranged a great tour of Caracol with Mario thru the hotel.

But the rooms are just ok...need new towels and the rooms just need a little refresher. They are 70s dated. They are serviceable which is fine but with everthing else so great, you expect more.

We had four bungalow rooms -- one was cramped and weird, two were lovely, and one had lots of bugs (flying and crawling type). They did exterminate for us, but then the room stank. But, the views are lovely and the pool is nice. Having the ruins across the street is convenient. But, just plan on taking cabs up and down the hill -- way too hot to walk so far. Luckily the cabs are cheap.

The food in the dining room is fine, but a bit pricey.

This was our 2nd stay at Cahal in the Cabana. As others have stated, the view and pool area are very nice. However, the Cabana's need to be updated. Very old furnishings, sheets, pillows, blankets, towels etc. A fresh coat of paint would do wonders. If you put a little work and $1k USD into each cabana it could be a completely different experience.

We stayed here for two nights. Came there from a jungle lodge... The jungle lodge was like The Ritz compared to this hotel! The rooms were not clean, we had more bugs in our room than we encountered in the jungle, no washcloths, the pool was also dirty( we swam in a river that was cleaner and much more clear), bad meals and rude staff will keep us from going back there again. The two things that help this hotel is the location and the view.

This resort is located in the Heart of San Ignacio and withing realistic commutes to many "Ruins" and attractions. The Resort is clean and friendly and I would rate it as a 4* because of its location friendly staff and price for what you get. I will point out some of the "Pros + Cons" so you can judge for yourself.

Pros: 1.The resort itself is a 5 minute walk to the Cahal Pech Ruins which is an easy start to your adventures. It is also within close proximity to other sites, caves etc that are must sees in Belize..

2. The pool area is a welcome site after a day of exploring and the drinks at the pool bar are good. Oscar the bartender can make anything you want.

3. Rooms are a little dated and the A/C is hit and miss. We stayed in a Cabana and it was warm as the A/C struggled with high thatched ceilings. Some "Crazy ants" and moths if you leave lights on in the evening.

4. Beautiful views of the valley mountains and city from rooms and pool area

5. Food, although we did not eat dinner there we had lunch a few times and everything was good.

Cons: 1. Like i said before the A/C is hit and miss but they did supply us with a fan that helped the A/C catch up some.

2. The road into the resort is horrible....the resort is on a cliff and the hilly road into it is rough, not unlike most other roads in Belize.

Room Tip: Al lrooms have good views oi I would ask to check the A/C before deciding on room/Cabana
