Not enough good things can be said about this hotel. Maria and her son Michael, the charming hands-on owners, work very hard to maintain their beautiful property and greet all of their guests with warmth and modesty. The cabanas are lovely (hopefully they will all have new bathrooms soon!) The dear ladies who cook our breakfast, make our beds everyday and keep beautiful touches of tropical flowers in our rooms do a wonderful job!
Humberto and Thomas, who work in the office do all that they can to make sure their guests have everything they need. They are so pleasant and are there for us! And, if you are lucky you may get some Creole lessons from Thomas!
Thank you for everything! I hope to meet all of you again soon!

Midas Tropical Resort is a great place to stay in terms of value for you money as well as an opportunity to stay in a quiet spot just outside the city. It is located about a 10 minute walk from downtown San Ignacio: close to the action but far enough away for peace and quiet. And the owner and her sons are very very helpful and friendly - I would definitely recommend staying here.

It was great to get back to Belize from an extended tour of Central America. All the new sights from Guatemala to Panama were awesome. My first stop in Belize was Midas Tropical Resort in San Ignacio, Belize. The comfortable, friendly accommodations were a blessing to a road weary traveler. Thanks to Midas for welcoming me back home.

I'm so glad I stayed at Midas on my trip to Cayo. The hotel is located on a serene, beautiful little parcel of land, and waking up and enjoying your morning coffee there (which they have, and it's goooood) is so much nicer than waking up in the middle of dusty San Ignacio. It's super-convenient while seeming a world away. The walk to town is so fast, though; you literally walk across a big park and you're in town. We ate in different restaurants every day, checked out tour operators, and just wandered around exploring--then could retreat back to our nice cabana by the river. How great is that?

Their rates are reasonable, and the rooms, staff and owners are lovely. The only thing I wish my room had that it did not was a mini fridge. And the water pressure in the shower was pretty bad. But those are small issues, and I would stay at Midas again if I ever find myself back in SI.

We stayed here for three days when we were in San ignacio last week. I liked that it was quiet, but only a short walk to town, bars, restaurants, etc. The rooms were nice and the beds were comfortable. The Staff was very nice and helpful, Humberto was very good about getting back to emails. Would definitely stay there again if I have a chance to get back to Belize again.

We arrived in San Ignacio one afternoon with no reservation. We checked a couple of the well-reviewed inns downtown, but they were booked. We ended up at Midas, in one of their King Deluxe rooms, which was given to us at a discounted rate, because the lower-priced cabanas were booked. That was very nice.

The rooms were not ready, but we were given a key for when we returned. The first problem happened when we came back - they had given the room to an Australian traveler and allowed him to store his belongings in there, but had not given the key to him. Things got rather tense with the other traveler since we both thought it was our room. The hotel's front desk were obviously not communicating with eachother. We ended up in the room next door, and it was all straightened out.

At first glance, the room looked great, very pleasant. Unfortunately, after arriving home from dinner, we discovered that the sheets on our bed had not been changed, although the bed was made. There were fleas and pubic hair in the sheets. I was horrified, naturally. It was late at this point, past ten, but luckily there was someone in the office who gave us a clean set of sheets, and we changed the bedding ourselves. There were no problems with bugs in the room after that night (plenty of bugs outside!). At this point we realized that the walls between rooms were paper thin. The Australian next door stayed up late partying with friends and it was so loud that noise-wise, they might as well have been in our room. Also, there is no door to the bathroom, so you should be very comfortable with your travel partner if you stay in the Deluxe room. The only other problem with the room was the toilet seat was broken off, so it had to be set in place before use.

The location was fine for us because we had a car, and we did drive to town. It would probably only be a 10-minute walk though. The staff was nice, and they did have internet and a weight set. I would not stay here again though.

We stayed at Midas Dec 27 - Jan 1, and it wasnt long enough. We started our vacation on Dec 20, flew into Cancun, took bus to Belize and then stayed 5nts in San Pedro. After beautiful Ambergrs Caye, we setteled in at Midas for 5nts. It didnt take long until we decided that this was our favorite part of the trip. (and I am usually a beach person) The hotel and location is perfect, close to town without being in town. The room we had was clean and cozy. The staff was so thoughtful, helpful and friendly. We loved the cayo district, and all the things to do there. We rented a car and had many adventures exploring the area, and now have a new definition of a rough road. The main highways are in good shape, but any roads off the main highways are rough to say the least. It is absolutely beautiful though, and unforgetable. We hope to return someday, It was really hard to leave. Just want to say Thank You to Michael, Maria, Thomas, Francisco and Mr Hess. You kind gestures and wonderful stories will live in our hearts always. God Bless
