My boyfriend and I stayed in San Ignacio at the Plaza Hotel in mid-May of this year and were pleasantly surprised. The rooms were nothing special: small room with two beds and fan. But they did have AC (if you wanted it; we didn't), fans, TV, a big bathroom with hot and cold water and good water pressure, and a balcony facing over the street. My one complaint is that there were ants. They didn't venture far from the door or onto the beds, but they were still definitely there. Being right on the street, it does get a little noisy, but it felt very safe, and there was a great breeze that came in off the surrounding hills so the room was never unbearably hot. The room was totally worth the $25 USD a night we paid though!
The owners were the nicest little Spanish couple I've ever seen. To get to the rooms, you walk through their house. Give them a wave or stop to have a conversation about what activities you did that day...lovely and 100% accomodating. They gave us ice for our cooler whenever we asked, and also offered to sell us water or coke if we wanted for cheaper than the stores.
Whether you're a backpacker, or just wanting to save a bit of money like we were, this is a great choice!
