We had an entertaining tour of the ruins where the tour guide mixed Mayan history, archeology, and lifestyle of the people who inhabited the ruins with Mayan mysticism.

“Cahal Pech”

Just a quick (hot) 15 minute walk from the hotel. If you're touring some of the other Mayan sites, make this your first ruin to visit as it's small enough to break you in. I did get a few good photos here.

What a great site! It's hard to believe that this important Mayan site is just up the hill from downtown San Ignacio. Take the self guided tour and you won't be disappointed!

“Self Tour”
Reviewed March 6, 2014

We took a taxi up from Midas resort. We were warned the hill was too steep to climb. But it wasn't. We should have walked. It was $9 BZ for the taxi and $10 BZ each for the entrance fee to walk around. This was our first mayan ruin we visited and it was a nice quiet tour we were able to take.

“convenient stop”
Reviewed March 6, 2014

the ruins are easy to get to from town, and the museum is informative. It is well maintained and easy to see if the time is short on your visit.
