We were at the San Ignacio for 3 nights in June. It's a nice size hotel, not too big. You get great personal service. The staff is terrific. The lobby is beautiful, the pool area attractive and clean, the restaurant food tasty and reasonable. We enjoyed touring the Iguana Sanctuary on the grounds and liked being close to town. The rooms that had been remodeled were excellent. The others were very fine - clean, just a little more modest.

Dear all,

If you find yourself in Belize, and particularly in San Ignacio or in the Mayan Mountains, you'd be foolish to miss out on this gem. My husband and I married in Belize on a Mayan ruin, and stayed at the San Ignacio resort during our time there just before, and for a couple of days after, our ceremony. The folks at the hotel knew we were there to get married, and they did so many little things to make our stay extra special - like sending rum drinks to our room upon arrival, sprinkling rose petals on our bed the day we had our ceremony so that when we returned, they were waiting on us, and even working with a florist and beauticians to make sure I didn't look [--] enough out there in that heat to offend the gods ... or my husband.

Not only was the hotel beautiful and the staff friendly, the food was excellent as well. Wait staff are all attentive and friendly, and the dining atmosphere, whether indoor or out - made for perfect meals. There's also a cool little bar / restaurant there if you want to be more casual and slam down some wings and a few brews.

All in all, we were extremely pleased, particularly for the money. We would have gladly paid more ... (although if someone from the hotel is reading this, please don't raise the rates!).

Don't miss out on this awesome spot folks!! It's one of those places you get the privilege of staying at that you'll remember the rest of your life, and if you ever go back down there again, you'll make sure you book there for future trips.

All employees at this hotel dedicated to hospitality and service.
The room extremely comfortable, recently renovated with TV, balcony, AC. Location right on edge of San Ignacio. Can walk to town easily. The Green Iguana breeding program on hotel grounds real interesting and fun. Lobby quite elegant, dining room and terrace wonderful. Menu items quite good. Try the grass fed fillet of beef. More chewy that North Americans are use to but taste is quite good. Pair it with red Malbec wine from Argentina (another grass fed beef country). Welcome rum punch drink a real treat. Internet use not expensive. The only suite, at top of beautiful stairway is elegant. Perfect location for honeymoon. Comfort next to opportunity to explore caves, Maya ruins, butterfly breeding programs, jungle hiking, bird watching, jungle challenges. There is a little casino next door, not owned by hotel.

My boyfriend and I enjoyed our 3 night stay at the San Ignacio Resort Hotel. Our room had A/C and a ceiling fan. The shower pressure was strong. Bed was comfortable. There was a small patio outside, but it was too hot to hang out there. The restaurant food was good. Had this fantastic Belizean tamale. Also, the water at the restaurant is potable and safe to drink. And they offer room service if you want to stay in your air conditioned room.

It was low season so just a few other guests there. Had the pool to ourselves. And they have the only air conditioned club/bar in San Ignacio, but it was quiet due to low season.

The hotel is situated on a small hill from the town center. It's not bad going down, but walking back up in the humidity can be tough. It's nice to be close to town so you can try restaurants (check out Hannah's for breakfast) and find grocery stores to pick up any essentials you may have forgotten - bug spray, shampoo, etc.

It's very convenient to book tours and shuttles from the hotel front desk. They're more expensive, but we were not disappointed with any of the guides they booked us with.

Our guide, Alexi, for the tour of Xunantunich and Cahal Pech was fantastic. He was easy going and had a lot of information about the sites, the history, and the plants in the area. We even saw some howler monkeys.
We went on the ATM tour which was a real adventure. Our guide, Glis, from Hun Chi'ik Tours, was great. He was helpful getting us through the cave and up and around rocks. He had a lot of information to share about the Mayans and the artifacts we saw.
Alexi was our shuttle driver back to Belize City and he came out with us on the Belize Zoo stop. He was very knowledgeable about the zoo and its animals. It's a fantastic way to see a lot of the interesting wildlife in Belize.

Just one minor thing about the hotel - it's right next to the San Ignacio Fire Station and one morning we were woken up by sirens, but that's not the hotel's fault.

We just finished our 8 day tour of Belize this past March, and definitely are fortunate to have found San Ignacio Resort Hotel. Situated on a hill over looking the town, the hotel is in a prime location for the great belize inland excursions. Upon arriving at the hotel, we were greeted with a complimentary rum punch. We stayed in a balcony room and not one of the queen rooms (yes the queen of england stayed here) mostly because the queen room does not have a balcony or porch. The room is beautifully decorated with special attention to detail, the 100+ channel flatscreen lcd is a plus. The hotel itself is luxury in the jungle. The grounds are well kept and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Complimentary racquets and balls to play tennis, the iguana conservatory, and pool are nice in house activities. The restaurant is good with reasonable prices, however i was not impressed with the running w steaks. The town is only a 5 minute walking distance away. All in all, we were very happy with this property and highly recommend it

Pros: location (unlike cha creek where its very far from town and can feel isolated)
reasonable price
staff

Cons: no free wi-fi
excursions are 25-35% more if you book through hotel (i.e. tikal, atm caves)

This is a great hotel! My guide book told me that the Queen stayed here on her last visit, and I believe it!
Ok, if you're twenty-something and traveling in Central America on a shoestring and a prayer, this isn't your thing. But, if you are older and can afford to pay US prices for a hotel, this definitely is the place for you. The hotel was bright, open, clean and beautiful (the climate is perfect in February), and all the staff were polite helpful and friendly. The hotel is up a hill overlooking the city and the river, and a well known spot (a local bike race started in front of the hotel on our first morning).
We made room reservations through email (found on their web site www.sanignaciobelize.com), and also set up transportation from the Belize City Airport , and tours to ATM, Caracol and Tikal. The city of San Ignacio is a very ideal and central location to start from if you're doing all these tours, and the San Ignacio Resort Hotel is definitely the best place in town. We booked all of our tours through the hotel (Luis, the concierge, is the best!), and we enjoyed all of our guides very much.
Their restaurant is very good, with competetive pricing, imho. Our guide book rated the breakfast at the hotel restaurant as one of the best deals in town, and i would recommend ordering ala carte (always my preference). Breakfast out on the restaurant balcony, with local bird life in abundance (the hotel property is situated right on the river) can't be beat!
Because of our tours, we found it easiest to eat in the hotel restaurant most nights, but we weren't disappointed! Don't forget to try the whole fish (broiled snapper, excellent!), the eggplant fries, the casava patties, and the Lebonese platter (a surprise!).
Ok, i have to admit that we splurged and booked the master suite for our stay (only one room like it!). It was MOST DEFINITELY worth it, a beautiful room with a fantastic balcony view - definitely the place for your romantic getaway.
We enjoyed our vists to the Mayan sites - Cahal Pech is just a short walk from the hotel! Caracol can't be missed (although the military escort is now more formality than much else), and Tikal is absolutely required! (If you are going to Tikal, i recommend spending a few days there, and stay in the Jungle Lodge within the Park. The San Ignacio Resort Hotel helped us by setting up these bookings for us too).

They are working on improving this hotel. The public areas are very nice, however I would advice them to take out the dirty ripped rug in the hall at the back by room 22. The rug in our room was also dirty. They are making an effort to refurbish the rooms. The beds are comfortable, but the bad workmanship of the walls and overall poor attention to detail does not help. The rooms have nice balconies overlooking a small garden. The front desk had a very nice lady and a grouchy one. The restaurant food was expensive and not too tasty. We did not have the beef though and that might be the reason to eat there as they own a beef ranch . The Ceviche and breakfast was decent and the tables in the veranda are very nice. They charge too much for internet $15 US for the day. Not bad for Belize.
