“A bitter Sweet Experience”
Reviewed July 23, 2014

My husband and I were on our newlywed honey moon to Belize, our overall experience was so ravishing, and our tour guide Eddie Panti was the best there is in the industry..... our stay at San Ignacio Hotel was beyond what we had expected and are overall amazed by what Belize has to offer......
my bitter experience was when we were in rout to guatemala we stopped along the way at a bar called Latin Bliss, in Benque Viejo Del Carmen, the service there was unprofessional and the girls had a lack of etiquette.... instead of providing a people friendly attitude they were uncivilized and were very disrespectful and making passes toward my husband....... if you know what i mean??? Is prostitution even legal in Belize... the reason why i ask is because i take this as a very serious insult not to be respected as his wife .... and also having a lack of customer service....

Unlike the other top-rated hotels in the San Ignacio area, this one is located in town and is a short walk into the center of town (though up and down a steep hill), where there are decent restaurants, a park, and people other than tourists.

If you want to experience Belize and are not looking for an isolated jungle resort, this has to be one of the best choices in San Ignacio.

The staff is unfailingly polite and helpful, and the physical facilities are very good. The hotel restaurant is also very good, although the main dining area was being renovated when we were there. They arranged tours for us to go to Barton Creek (canoeing into a cave where Mayans performed human sacrifices) and a day trip into Guatemala to see the Tikal Mayan site. Many other activities are offered. Our guides on both trips were great people and very knowledgeable about Belize and Mayan history.

The Iguana Project is probably a cash cow for the hotel, but it's worth the ten bucks or so to have your picture taken with baby Iguanas draped around your neck. The casino next door is clean and modern, but is not a place you will want to spend time unless you have a gambling addiction.

We're glad we visited San Ignacio and highly recommend this hotel.

My friend and I stayed at the hotel for 3 nights and were very impressed with the accommodations. We booked through the hotel's website, so we were able to take advantage of a special summer discount for bookings of at least 3 nights. There are many positives to the hotel: (1) The staff members are super helpful and friendly (there are only 24 guest rooms, so they are attentive and remember you by name, but you don't feel bombarded); (2) there is a decent sized swimming pool that is accessible 24 hours; (3) the rooms are clean, beautifully decorated, and fairly large; (4) there is a spa at the hotel (I recommend the $45 USD half hour facial; it's the best deal); (5) the hotel is within walking distance of town, but far enough away that you are isolated from the noisiness (I must warn you that on the walk back, you have to be able to walk up a long hill that is quite steep); and (6) complimentary wifi throughout the hotel, including the outside areas.

We had been very active in the days previous and we spent one day almost entirely in our room. The bed was comfy, nice linens and enough space in the room to not feel claustrophobic. We often walked into town for dinner. The walk up the hill is good exercise. The staff was friendly and the rooms were well cleaned.

Everything you need out of a hotel in San Ignacio if you're opting out of the expensive eco lodges. Beautiful grounds, lovely rooms with a/c, a pool, the fabulous Iguana Project. It's easy to walk into town and the hotel staff is super friendly and accommodating. We got a great deal for their summer rates!

Room Tip: We got the Deluxe Balcony room and loved our little outdoor space and the king bed.

I have stayed here on numerous occasion and attended many events at the hotel. It has always been a pleasure filled experience. They have a great staff, excellent food, and a great bar. They also offered a pool, tennis courts, a nightclub and casino, like 1 minute walk away, and a great view of the city.

Room Tip: ask for poolside or pool adjacent rooms away from the road.

Was there two weeks ago. We took Cayo Belize Shuttle Service by Tosh from Belize City. Highly recommend her as well. She was prompt and informative. She also arranged a couple of tours for us that were good value and the guide that went with us was great.

The hotel itself is very nice and clean. Staff was consistently helpful and pleasant. Had thought about one of the places outside of town but in talking with some folks, glad we picked this place. Enjoyed being able to walk to town and enjoy different restaurants. We did have breakfast there a couple of days which was good. Highly recommend this place.

Room Tip: We did the Regal room. Didn't think we would want to sit outside unless it was by the pool!
