“Excellent time”
Reviewed April 3, 2014

We had an excellent experience at San Ignacio Resort. Someone told us it was the nicest hotel in town. The rooms were comfortable and clean. We LOVED the iguana experience (would have liked more time to tour the grounds). The only negative i could see was the food service was slow. You can pre-order your breakfast if you have somewhere to go. There were plenty of good food options within walking distance. the staff were very friendly. I would recommend giving out those cold mint washcloths more often. It would have been great after our ATM trip.

Room Tip: We loved the balcony rooms

We spent four nights at this resort. Property was really nice. Staff was very helpful and friendly. It's not a luxury place but it has a great feel to it. We liked our the jungle view room. We would stay here again. It is close to town and we enjoyed being able to walk into town when we wanted to. The walk back up the hill from town was a bit of a challenge, but was actually a good thing!
Again, very friendly and helpful staff. Lovely area to visit. We did the cave tubing tour with Max downtown. And Tikal. Both tours were fun. We heard the ATM tour was magical.

I have been leading small group educational tours to Central America for 40 years and can say that the San Ignacio Resort in Belize is among the very best in which I have had a group stay. Besides its great location near downtown yet still overlooking tropical forest above the Macal River, what makes this place stand out is the wonderful customer service. This hotel's customer service is outstanding. Everyone is quick to please, has a smile, is helpful and flexible. The concierge and guests services folks are informative and willing to accommodate the variety of needs that a mixed group of travelers request. Our arrival pickup and our return to the airport as well as the hotel arranged tours were always on time with friendly, articulate and informative drivers and guides (Cruz and Ted). I can especially recommend the hotel's Mayan Expedition package which includes meals, guided tours with excellent archaeologist guide to Tikal, Xunantunich, Cahal Pech and Caracol as well as an excellent tour of the hotel's medicinal plant trail and Green Iguana Conservation Project. The wait staff and housekeepers always give you greetings with eye contact and a smile. Another plus for this hotel is the quick turn around time with e-mail correspondence. In planning for a group I generally have several questions for the hotel management as we develop a tour. The sales person with whom I worked, Marlon Naj, was always quick to specifically answer and confirm our requests and the accounts service manager, Fidel Mendez, quickly serviced our payments as additional guests were added to our reservations list. Once we had booked our stay for five nights, I immediately received an e-mail message from the Guest Services Manager and Concierge, Onil Avilez, outlining activities for our group. When we arrived, Mr. Avilez met with our group to welcome us and to describe our activities and the amenities of the hotel. Each evening before dinner, he would give tell us how to dress for the next days activities, identify departure times and return times and the meal service included in the day's activities. He made my job easy! The front desk, led by Amiris and her colleagues, were always quick to respond to our group's requests. They worked with an air of friendliness and confidence and never displayed any annoyance with a guest's inquiry. It was a great experience for us all.

San Ignacio Resort Hotel was a fabulous place to stay. I was there for 3 nights and really enjoyed my private courtyard and wonderful grounds. I took a tour through the Iguana Farm with Bert, the guide. He was very helpful and made sure I was introduced to the various Iguanas! Great fun.

The Grounds are beautiful, the rooms nicely decorated and roomy including a personal patio. Service i 5 star and the Green Iguana tour should NOT be missed. You get to hold the iguana's while learning about them. The arranged a trip to TIKAL for us, another tour you should not miss. I will be telling everyone I know about the San Ignacio resort Hotel.

We were not thrilled with the stay as it was not a real Belizian experience but a typical American one. Food was not good and for the price of the room and food, we were pretty disappointed. Pool was great except for kids breaking glass in it. Rooms are nice though. Green Iguana Project was the star and highly recommend that. Front desk staff was nice but wait staff was not hospitable at all. There were a few star employees and I wish I remembered their names. We will not go back.
