“San Ignacio, The Gateway to visiting Mayan civilization.”
Reviewed January 20, 2012

The property lives up to it's promotions, The staff consistently performed above and beyond taking care of our every need. On our one down day we asked them to arrange a tour to Tikal. which they did at a reasonable cost taking care of every need and concern. This is a friendly town where everybody seems to know each other and due to that you are always in good hands.

Room Tip: Call ahead and explain your desires, they will accommodate you!

The hotel is quite the show place in this part of the country. Our room had a king-size 4 poster bed .. The bath had a above counter, bowl sink and the shower was an open walk in with beautiful tile from top to bottom. Very luxurious! We also had our own balcony with 2 chairs, end table and even a hammock hanging from the ceiling! It looked out over the jungle. You could also see the huge swimming pool.
I can't say enough about the staff, they treated us like royality! From Leo, at the front desk who answered all our questions and wants, and Jason in the dining room who served us our meals. They really went out of their way to make sure we were taken care of. I would definitely recommend this hotel to all my friends and would surely go back there.
The food was delicious and always served eloquently! The waiters even put the dinner napkins in the ladies lap upon seating!
They have easy access to the internet for guests and you are allowed l5 mins. free per sitting. Make sure to watch for the small toucan birds when you are dining out on the balcony early in the morning.

Room Tip: There are suites on the lower level but you have to contend with stairs, so we stayed on the ground...

This hotel is a short walk up the hill from San Ignacio township. So you can enjoy the frontier town vibe and then escape to your own little sanctuary. The outside balcony overlooks the jungle and is a wonderful spot to rest up with a drink in your hand. The rum punch is highly recommended. Restaurant prices are comparable to town and the food is good. There are a range of rooms and a range of prices. With a little haggling, you can pick up a bargain.

The staff are wonderful and enormously helpful and knowledgable about the area - a special cheerio here to the wonderful Mariano.

This place is definitely worth the extra $$. A big thumbs up from us.

The San Ignacio Resort Hotel is about 10 minutes up the hill from the centre of San Ignacio, with all of its shops, restaurants, banks and other facilities, but feels quiet and secluded. The lobby and other communal areas are quite spectacular, though our room was perhaps a little small for its peak season price. Pick-up to and from the airport in Belize City was smooth and efficient, and all of the drivers were knowledgeable and helpful. Reception was friendly and efficient and the service was generally good, if occasionally tending towards the over-familiar. However, every time we were getting a little annoyed with the service, one of the staff would redeem the hotel by their their enthusiasm for the wildlife and environment of Belize, and a desire to be genuinely of use. The bird-life around the hotel is great and the Iguana Project is not to be missed. The hotel will organise many tours, usually at greater cost than similar tours from agents in town; for the long trip to Caracol over terrible roads we found the comfort of the hotel car and the skill of the driver to be well worth the extra. This may not the case for other trips. The restaurant has a fantastic setting, but we found it expensive and of variable quality compared to what we could get after the short walk into town. The buffet breakfast should be avoided. The bar is disappointing, dark and uninviting. The pool is good. Overall, we thoroughly recommend a visit to San Ignacio if you interested in Mayan ruins or the rainforest environment. The Resort Hotel makes a very good base for exploring the area, without being isolated.

This is a great place to stay when visiting the wonderful Maya ruins in Western Belize. The restaurant in the hotel was quite good. A bit slow for breakfast, but that can be fixed. Comfortable rooms and friendly, helpful staff.

We enjoyed staying at San Ignacio Resort Hotel for two reasons. It had a beautiful view from the main terrace and from the restaurant of the lush tropical gardens and was conveniently located. We enjoyed our breakfast watching a variety of birds. The room however was very average and we thought it was overpriced. The hotel staff was kind and helpful. One of the fun activities offered on site was a visit to iguana sanctuary, were the baby iguanas are cared for until they are ready to be released into the wild.

Room Tip: Ask for the room with a balcony.

my dad lives in san ignacio so we have travelled here a few times. this time we decided to stay at the san ignacio resort. the front desk and hotel people are very freindly and do a great job making you feel at home. the rooms are very modern and the beds are comfortable. we had two rooms here for christmas week and the one suite we had didnt have hot water for the entire time...our room had hot water so im good
the grounds are beautiful and the iguana tour is a must...the guide was awesome and the experience was great. the pool looked great but didnt use it
my one complaint was the restaurant food and service...we only ate breakfast so i can not speak for the other meals. i understand in mexico and belize things move a little slower and i readily accept this....each morning though it was an excercise in frustration to get service...we waited long periods for initial coffe or tea..we waited a long time for our food to come and was almost always stone cold
maybe it was christmas and there was a lack of employees but you pay a big dollar to stay here and the service should reflect that
