“Iguanas on your head!”

Great time with the iguanas - they let you hold them, and encourage the iguanas to climb all over you. Our 1.5 year old LOVED seeing them up close and personal (and most of all on Dad's head!)
Learned a lot about iguanas too.

“Wild yet tame. Ugly yet so cute.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 8, 2013

After visiting the Maya ruins at at Xunantunich then later at Cahal Pech above San Ignacio Town (western Belize, Central America) a great next stop is at the San Ignacio Hotel' Iguana Conservation Project. The hotel's fancy marble entrance should not side track your iguana interest since the Iguana breeding area is on the river side of the hotel's back lot. It's certain that you'll get THE best up close and personal photos of the big Daddy'Ohs Iguanas and the mini-finger size babies iguanas and learn quite a bit about these Jurassic looking critters. After the tour, have a beverage (or lunch?) in the hotel's A/C bar. The San Ignacio Hotel is the perfect chill out spot after a morning of Maya Ruin hiking and the Iguana Conservation Project is the icing on the cake.

“Get up close and personal with the Green Iguanas”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2013

Eddy was our guide at the Iguana Conservatory. It costs $6 US per person to tour. Eddy was a lot of fun letting us hold Gomez (the biggest iguana) and telling us all about iguanas and the conservatory program. We also got to feed the iguanas Chaya leaves and bananas. Tours begin on the hour from 8am-4pm. Call ahead to ensure there isn't a school group scheduled to be there at the same time (and you don't want to walk up the big hill to the hotel twice). Many school groups visit to help educate kids about how to protect the green iguanas and they do not give tours at these times.

“Pleasant Surprise”

This tour was out of the San Ignacio Resort Hotel. Eddy was incredibly knowledgable and allowed us to hold the iguanas (only if you want to). Very interesting tour.
