“Excellent food, slow service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 25, 2014

Don't let the outside appearance keep you away. The food is very good. The service is a bit slow. Especially for breakfast. We waited 15 minutes or more for coffee. Ate dinner there and came back for breakfast the next morning. Would go again.

“Good food, beware of hidden charges”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 20, 2014

We had an very good dinner tonight at Erva's. Our waiter recommended the Creole fish ($20 BZ) and mentioned it could be ordered as a combo with conch or shrimp.

My wife ordered chicken stew, I went for the combo with shrimp (they happened to be out of conch). It was a very nicely done gumbo-like dish, with good tomato/onion side salad and coconut rice. I was impressed.

The kicker, though, came with the bill: the dish was $35 ($17.50) -- not a terrible price for similar dish in the States, but very expensive for San Ignacio, Belize (and more expensive than anything I saw on the menu). The "combo" was fair sized, but not double-sized. It was simply a mix of fish and shrimp (six shrimp to be exact).

Unfortunately, feeling like we got a raw deal put a negative spin on the overall experience.

Though we wouldn't hesitate recommending Erva's, we recommend either sticking to items on the menu, or being sure to ask for the price first!

“Great food and service!!”

The food was ready good for a good price. The guys also know a lot about the region and activities. Combined with the Guesthouse upstairs, it makes a very nice place to stay in San Ignacio.

“A great hidden hole in the wall”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 16, 2014 via mobile

A little hard to find down a muddy street as it had rained that day. The waiter was outside with our menus as we approached and quite eager to assist us. A very nice guy who explained the menu well and was attentive yet not over bearing and easy to flag down if needed.

The place seemed pretty clean could use a little tlc but it's not trying to be modern or flashy which I appreciate.

I tried the pineapple juice and it was ok. I would try something different next time. The vegetable coconut rice was delicious. Veggies and rice were cooked to perfection. Hamburger was good and fries appear to be homemade though I found them to be good but a little soggy if someone likes them crisp.
Overall I would eat here again. The prices are very good.

“Very good local food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 12, 2014

A little local restaurant in a side street in San Ignacio where you don't have to sit shoulder to shoulder with other tourists in a posh Western setting. That's not that I came to Belize for.
The waiter explained the dishes to us in very much detail and you could tell he either loves the food or the cooking or both. It was very delicious and the portions big. Maybe because it was xmas the restaurant was lit up a night and you have to bring mosquito spray.
