We stayed here on 20 dec 2012 for 4 nights. The Lodge consisted of a number of traditional thatched rooms all with ensuite, built in a semi circle around an old mayan ruin. There was a central building with a bar, relaxation area inc hammocks and below was the communal dining room and outside seating. Sugar bird feeders hung around the building attracting humming birds etc. We stayed in one of two rooms reached along a raised walkway which I would recommend as they were quieter and we felt hidden in the rainforest. The hosts Cat and Dave were very welcoming and full of ideas and information about the country and the sites. They, together with the local guides, helped create a very friendly atmosphere encouraging the guests to share their day's travel experiences. Dinner and lunch were served communally and consisted of healthy home cooked fare with a good selection of vegetables. On the site night and day walks were arranged to see the flora and fauna and there was the opportunity to go tubing down the river or simply just wander around the grounds. The rooms were very spacious and the bathroom was good with a reasonable shower - hot water was only available late afternoon and evening. The only disappointment was the cold nights. The room was so cold even with the extra blanket, that we went to bed fully clothed! We enjoyed the lack of wifi, no tv and the chance to play cards and enjoy family time. Would definitely recommend the lodge to other travellers.

Room Tip: The birdwalk cabanas are set apart from the rest of the rooms and away from the bar...these are quie...

Everything from start to finish was seamless. Cat was extremely responsive and helpful during the reservation process, we had a seamless pick up at the Guatemalan border from David and an easy airport transfer after our stay. The entire Pook's Hill team is top notch--Cat and David as a management team, Emma the volunteer bartender/snake charmer, the guides (Hector!), the kitchen cooks and staff, and our transfer driver (Adrian) who was so flexible and helpful.

Our cabana was gorgeous, clean and well-kept. It is in the jungle, of course, so you need to be prepared for a critter or two, but it is pretty luxurious for the jungle. (I am not a very bug-friendly person, so if I was comfortable here, pretty much anyone will be!) The ATM tour was fantastic, and as other reviews mentioned, Pook's is closest to the ATM cave so we were the first group in. We didn't see another person for nearly two hours, and on the return we saw the lines and lines of tour groups waiting throughout the cave for others to proceed so that they could move along. We really had an exponentially better experience then any of those other groups.

The food is great, the grounds are beautiful and everything is wonderfully relaxing and positive there. I would definitely go back and will recommend it to friends.

We are just back from our visit there. As you can read in others' comments below, the operators are great. They really take the time to make sure everything is going well, and you can tell it's not just customer service. Nice people. The place is really more of a relaxed family gathering spot than a hotel per se. It's rustic and remote, but well done. Don't think or expect the Four Seasons. Things are clean and well done, but it's jungle and not super upscale.

The roads are also pretty crummy and you can get carsick coming and going for excursions, but that's not unique to this place. That's the whole region. Bugs are for real, too. I recommend a lot of sprays and such, even in the rooms.

Our kids founds other kids and ran around like crazy people, having a great time, tubing, exploring, etc. Hard to predict that, of course. Probably worth asking ahead of time.

Room Tip: Jaguarundi room is close to the lodge. If people are hanging out into the evening, it can be too lou...

I traveled to Belize for 11 days of sustainability research focusing on tourism and agroecology. Pook's Hill was by far the most sustainable place I stayed, using local cahune nuts as a fuel source for their water heating. Pooks hill uses local products and serves local food. Also, if you want to go to ATM you could not choose a better place. My group was the first in the cave and we did not run into anyone else until we left- a stark contrast to other groups which were surrounded by other tourist groups. Pook's Hill has beautiful cabanas and the only cons are the terrible road leading to pooks hill and the noise you'll hear if you're cabana is close to the bar

Room Tip: don't get a room near the bar/eating area- you'll be able to hear everything!

I am a college professor and I took my students to Belize for a cultural trip. We stayed at Pook's Lodge and Catarina made sure we had an amazing time! We changed our itinerary several times and she was really accommodating. It was my first time in the jungle and it was definitely worth seeing. River tubing and the night walk were free so make sure you do it.

I cannot say enough great things about Pook's Hill, the managers Catarina and David were phenomenal hosts; they made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived to the moment we checked out and drove away. I stayed at Pook's while traveling with a group of 8 students and professors at my college and Catarina was a tremendously helpful (most of all PATIENT) in accommodating our indecisive group for excursion tours and more importantly car service from and to Belize City.

The staff at Pook's are also equally fantastic; the cooks served authentic breakfast and dinners that were unbelievably delicious. NOTE: the breakfast is included in your stay but dinners are not. It's a little tough to drive out from Pook's to grab dinner, but the food at Pook's is so great if you can afford to stay in and eat there, I highly recommend it. The tour guides employed through Pook's are so incredibly enthusiastic and so knowledgeable about Belizean culture, you can tell they love their jobs and want to ensure you have the best time. I would visit Belize again just for the ATM tour alone (thanks Hector)!!

The Cabana rooms also give you to experience the sleeping in the jungle as you are lulled to sleep by the sounds of the Jungle night critters and awakened by the chirps of birds and howls of monkeys. If you're staying at Pook's make sure to bring LOTS of bug spray as every place (including your cabana) is technically outdoors with no windows to shut anywhere.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the unique experience of staying at Pook's Hill and would highly recommend to anyone considering visiting Belize to stay there.

Room Tip: Bring bug spray, you are in the jungle!
