We stayed at Monkey Bay on the last night of our trip and it may have suffered somewhat in comparison with some truly excellent lodges (Parrot's Nest and Sun Creek.)
Monkey Bay seems to be set up primarily to handle student groups, but can accommodate small parties too. We stayed in room 6 (?), which has a double bed and bunk beds. About $BZ80 for the 4 of us. Rustic, but comfortable enough. A rotating fan helped keep things cool. There were screens on the windows, but few bugs anyway, so not really needed.
Dinner was a reasonable $BZ22 for a spaghetti buffet, although a kid's discount might have been in order. They did cater to the picky eaters in our group, which was appreciated.
Breakfast at $BZ14/pp is rather overpriced, although certainly tasty enough.
There were no student groups present, might be a lot noisier if there were! For us very restful.
We drove about a mile and a half down to the swimming hole on the Sibun River, which was quite refreshing.
Saturday morning a local family set up sales tables in the outside corridor for the usual slate and straw items. I prefer to keep commerce and sleeping distinct, so didn't care for this, but others may welcome the chance to shop more.
It's less than an hour to the airport, so Monkey Bay is a good choice for late arrivals or early departures.
