Martz Farm is a perfect combination of people, land and positive energy.Joe and Miriam are truly amazing. They are warm, welcoming, fun, wonderful to hang out and talk with and organized on top of that. The trips were well planned and fun.
We stayed for 4 nights and easily could have stayed longer. It is worth coming to this area just to stay here. Joe and Miriam are way more that hosts, their connection to the environment and the land is consistently felt. Joe took us horseback riding and we went deep into a cave. Though i was just a bit anxious going into the cave, he was great and i forgot about my fears. That was such a great day, and what added to it was Joe's poetry inside the cave, in the dark!! We also took a boat trip with Laz., which was beautiful and a fun adventure hiking up waterfalls and hiking to the boat. Miriam seems to pull it all together. Not only is she a fantastic cook, but a truly special person. And of course, talking to Uncle Jo and having the kids to play marbles with was just perfect.
We stayed in the cabin. It did have an ensuite bathroom and a hot shower, but it did not have electricity.
This was just fine and only added to our sense of being connected to the earth around us.

We spent 16 days in Guatemala and Belize and Martz Farm hands down was one of our highlights from the trip. From the border pickup to drop-off in Benque, Joe, Miriam and Laz and the kids made sure to give us memorable experiences through our 4 day stay with them. We loved the hospitality and humor of these guys. My family loved the farm and my kids enjoyed having playmates to swim in the creek, ride horses together and hike together. The vaca boat trip to the pristine waterfalls with Laz and motley crew of dogs and help is a must do! The kids are still talking about the sandpaper waterfall climb and sweet luna (the dog) guiding us back to the farm.

The rooms in the main house were extremely clean and comfortable for the four of us. The bathroom was spotless and amazing hot showers available 24x7.

Miriam is an amazing cook. My tummy was not feeling great when I arrived and she whipped up some delicious soup to help me get better. Joe entertained us with his poetry and philosophy. Staying at the farm, I felt like I got to know a part of authentic Belize without the rush of hundreds of tourists. I highly recommend this place if you are going to visit Belize.

Room Tip: Stay in the main house if want creature comforts like bathrooms and windows. Stay in the tree house...

We stayed at Martz Farm for 2 nights. Although it rained almost non-stop during our stay there, which is unusual in January, we had a great time! We went horse-back riding with Jo and on a boat (pontoon) tour with Lazaro. Our hosts, Jo and Miriam, are wonderful people, a lot of fun to be with. Jo is a great guide for the horse-back tour and Miriam cooks the most delicious typical Belizean meals. Lazaro, Jo's brother, is very funny and will teach you a lot on the tree and plant species before and during the boat tour. They will go out of their way to make you feel at home, and the atmosphere is very friendly and family-oriented.

We stayed in one of the garden rooms, which are located in the main building. Our room was very big (it could easily accommodate a family of 4) and the ceiling very high. There is one bathroom for every 2 rooms. There is electricity (solar panels) and hot water for the shower. I know there is also a treehouse, but we didn't try it.

Martz Farm is a very isolated place, which is perfect to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of big city life. There are horses, a donkey, chicken, roosters and five dogs.
We recommend a visit anytime!

The drive from San Ignacio through the jungle with Miriam was breathtaking and provided opportunity for us to learn about the surrounding area. Our treehouse over the waterfall continues to be a highlight we share from our 11-day trip to Belize and Guatemala! Since we were far from town without transportation we stayed on the grounds for breakfast and dinner, which were fresh and delicious. Meals were served in the family's kitchen where we enjoyed conversation and laughter with Miriam's husband, two young boys, family, and workers. Since we couldn't visit the ATM caves due to heavy rainfall we opted for a jungle hike and pontoon boat ride with Miriam's brother-in-law, Laz. As we hiked to the river Laz taught us about the family's land and the local plants with great pride and enthusiasm. Our time on the river was both relaxing and invigorating! We sunned ourselves, hiked a spectacular waterfall and observed the wildlife. We loved our experience staying with Miriam and her family. Don't miss out on this special trip to the Belizean jungle!

We can not say enough good things about our holiday here. Joe, MIriam and their children greeted us with open arms and were gracious hosts. The food was delectable, the activities were well-planned with room for adventure and I don't think we will likely have an experience to match it. The tree house over the waterfall is a MUST!

Last November it was the third time I spent a few days at the Martz Farm. It is definitely a place you want to go to over and over again. While Miriam works calmly in her kitchen, preparing a tasty meal, she offers you a cup of tea or coffee and includes you in her home. Joe( and his horses) knows the best trails in the rainforest and he shows you plants and animals which would go unnoticed. It is a delight! The rooms in the different cabins and houses all have a Belizian flavour, colourful and rustic with good taste. The candle light makes the nights very romantic! From your window you can observe hummingbirds, toucans and the chicken which will lay eggs for your breakfast. The secludedness of the place makes it unique. You will love it!

Room Tip: The tree house is a wonderful experience!! But note that the waterfall underneath is running day and...

We arrive a bit late which was totally our fault for almost getting lost but it was indeed worth the wait.To sum it all up we had an amazing time with Laz our boat guide and upon getting back to the lodge we had a great time listening to Jose who recited some of his poetry over a hot cup of coffee and who also ensure that we had a few laugh, Miriam you are an amazing person :) , I'll be back soon, You guys keep up the good work that you are doing and thank you for your amazing hospitality
