“Unbelievable resort”
Reviewed February 29, 2012

Martz farm in the jungle in Belize is a once in a lifetime type experience. The resort is nesteled in the jungle, complete with occasional monkeys in the trees! The hosts, Miriam and Joe, go above and beyond to make your stay enjoyable. They have very well trained horses and mules for trail riding or can help coordinate your visit to Mayan ruins or the Belize zoo. The accomodations are very clean. The resort has limited electricity, yet it was remarkable to see cooking on fire, a generator for the wash machine, a gas refridgerator. The Cabanas/tree houses surround a "yard" and most have about 1 flight of stairs. This was the most relaxing resort I have ever been to, and i have never seen such bright stars.

Martz farm is easily my favorite place I have have stayed at in Belize on my 7 trips to this wonderful country. The hosts Miriam and Joe Martinez make you feel like part of the family. Their 3 kids always kept us laughing and entertained. Uncle Joe is great to talk to and always has a story. Miriam makes the best authentic Belizian foods over heated rocks. Joe is a hoot and will make you so comfortable, he is a wealth of knowledge and very willing to share it with you. The horseback ride through the jungle was awesome. There is always something to do and the hosts make sure you are comfortable and can arrange many different activities for you or just relax on their many acres. We went hiking in the jungle and met some of the extended family who showed us some of the flowers and fauna and what they are used for medicinally. We stayed in the treehouse with a waterfall right under us, it was some of the best sleep we had on out trip. Listening to and seeing howler monkeys, toucans and other birds was fantastic. The firefly show at night is something truely magical with hundreds of them lighting in the large yard at once. I could go on and on but better yet go and experience this place for yourself, I promise you will not be dissapointed. This is one destination that I will come to again and again on my vacations to Belize.

Room Tip: Treehouse open and waterfall under but no bathroom, if you want bathroom with hot shower take cabin...

Staying at Martz Farm is a true Belize jungle vacation and a travel experience that I truly value. It is a small farm with only a few rooms, although a large new accommodation building is under construction, nestled away from any town or neighbors and surrounded by a beautiful tropical wilderness. The food is wonderful. Home cooked, fresh and nutritious hardy meals prepares you for amazing day trips that are accessible by foot, boat, horseback, or car if traveling to visit nearby mayan ruins. Martz Farm was also able to arrange a day trip to Tikal, Guatemala that was easy and unforgettable. Joe and Miriam are so welcoming and accommodating that they make you feel like part of the family. We loved spending time at the farm with them and their three children.
The value for staying at Martz Farm is truly priceless. Joe and Miriam have done a great job create a welcoming and accommodating place to stay while leading you on the best adventures around. We spend a day horseback riding and exploring nearby caves. We spend a day on a river boat, swimming at the base of picturesque waterfalls and hiking throught the jungle, and a day touring nearby mayan ruins. This is truly a place I will return to.

Room Tip: Ask for the thatch roofed treehouse nestled over a creek. It is romantic and fairytale like.

One word ... AWESOME! I've spent over twenty years traveling throughout Mexico and Central America. I've stayed in 5-star hotels and small, single-room pole and thatch dwellings with sascab floors, but one of the most interesting places I've stayed is the 'waterfall' tree-house at Martz Farm. Built by hand by Joe Martinez and his family, it rests in the trees over a small waterfall. There are no windows or doors, just the surrounding jungle with all of its interesting sounds (including Howler monkeys and tons of song birds). The farm is like a trip back in time and provides a glimpse of what the country may have been like many decades ago. There is no electricity, but plenty of amenities (like gravity-fed showers). Miriam makes excellent meals and often provides more traditional fare like escabeche (soup). Joe knows the jungle like the back of his hand. You can ride horses all day to waterfalls and ancient ruins, or simply explore the jungle's wildlife. You'll never see so many stars in your life.

The farm is nestled in beautiful jungle hills. Surrounded by numerous wildlife - including the comfort of howler monkeys. I've been to the farm a few times and will definitely be heading back. It is so refreshing to have no technology and no power - conversation with real people can't be overrated. Even though the sun sets early, it is easy to stay up late (9, maybe even 10 o'clock!) playing cards or reading by candle light. Miriam and Joe are amazing hosts. Miriam's cooking is incredible and no one goes hungry. Joe is extremely knowledgable about the jungle and can keep you entertained for hours with stories. Even with all of these amazing things to love about the farm, my favourite thing is how well I sleep. Without a doubt the sleep I have there is better than any where else in the world!

Room Tip: The Treehouse is the best palapa. But if you're a city slicker who can't live without hot wa...

I have traveled all over the world and but Martz Farm is always the place I keep wanting to return to. This is the most magical place on earth, with the most beautiful scenery and the most incredible rare wild life. Joe and Miriam Martinez are extremely welcoming and accommodating to all who pass through. Miriam's cooking rocks! It is always fresh right from their garden and so delicious. Miriam never disappoints. The location of the Farm is perfect, it is far enough away from town but not too far that you cannot find it! There are always lots of activities to see and do, and Joe is the perfect guide, with a delightful sense of humour. From visiting ancient Maya archaeological sites, to going on a leisurely horse ride through the jungle, Joe can show you it all! But if you want to just relax you can just swing on a hammock and not be disappointed by the wildlife you see go by: different species of toucans, hummingbirds, and even holwer monkeys! You haven't lived until you have been to Martz Farm! Best sleeps of life!

Room Tip: The waterfall hut

If you are looking to truly experience Belize and its natural beauty, then Martz Farm is your destination. The farm is nestled in the jungle, surrounded by mountains and incredible wildlife. The scenery is truly breathtaking! There are a variety of accommodations available, depending on how adventurous you are feeling. My favourite is the treehouse which has its own private little waterfall. The farm is family run by Joe and Miriam Martinez, and honestly you couldn't ask for better hosts. Miriam is an amazing cook, and always goes the extra mile to make sure you are comfortable. She even organized a trip to Guatemala to see Tikal for me. Joe is an absolute blast! I've gone on a number of adventure tours with him including horseback riding which was a completely unique way to experience the jungle. My first experience at Martz Farm was so great that I have returned number of times and have never been disappointed!

Room Tip: Go for the treehouse!!!
