“Just what we needed”
Reviewed March 13, 2012

Our brief one night stay with Julia and Louis was awesome. They are a wealth of information and can basically arrange anything you need, airport pickup/drop-off, on-site Jeep rental, day-trips and transfers, etc. I'll be using them again when we come back to Belize next year. The accommodations are basic and clean. Nothing fancy, just what we needed as we were only in the city for one night and didn't want to pay for overpriced Raddison/Best Western type accommodation. It's in a nice private residential area that is safe and secure a bit outside of town. No need to venture out too far for meals anyway as Louis makes the best food around and hanging out on the deck and meeting some new and interesting people was really great.

Julia and Lewis are very attentive and will go out of their way to make sure that you enjoy your stay in Belize City. It is very convenient that they offer breakfast and dinner at the inn and Lewis is an amazing cook. Julia gave us a ride to town and pointed us in the right direction when we wanted to explore Belize City. The room was clean and comfortable and good value for money, with cable TV, AC and free WiFi. It is located in a quiet residential neighborhood on the canals. Remember this is Belize City and not Miami, so if you want the Ritz, you should probably stay at the big name hotel for three times the price. You can also rent a car at the inn, which makes it a very convenient first stop when arriving in Belize. We will definitely be returning to the Red Hut Inn on our next visit to Belize.

Lewis and Julia truly love what they do and they do it well. The Inn isn't the "Ritz" but if you want a cheaper place to stay for a few nights, the Red Hut Inn is ideal. It is close to the airport, in a safe neighborhood and within walking distance to shopping and restaurants. But if you don't want to go out in the evening, Lewis will cook for you. Lewis is a chef and we loved his delicious suppers of fish and chicken with delicious salads and one night fresh fish chowder. It was also handy that you could purchase beer and soda's from the office. Lewis also provides transportation at prices cheaper than the local taxi's which is very handy.

Room Tip: The very cheapest room is pretty small, pay the little extra and get a suite.. it is still a good va...

Lewis and Julia are very kind. Their home cooked meals are fabulous. They picked us up and took us to the airport when our trip was complete and that was much cheaper than taking a cab.

Traveling alone for the first time to Belize, the Red Hut Inn was a perfect place to stay. It sits in a secure neighborhood, accessible to a couple restaurants and the road to the City. Catching the bus was extremely easy and convenient. Julia and Lewis are warm and inviting as your hosts. They are willing to assist you in any way possible. Having been to Belize many times before with groups, I am somewhat familiar with the area. Julia recommended a trip to Lamanai, a Mayan site in Orange Walk - it was perfect. An easy day trip. Lewis' cooking is truly the best in Belize. His mango burgers are mouthwatering. The rooms are clean and spacious for one. The wifi helped me to stay in touch back home. When I returned in October with a colleague - I stayed there again! I am returning in March and will not hesitate to book my room. This is truly a hidden gem for travelers in Belize.

If you are have to stay one or two nights in Belize this is a good place to stay. It is a little outside of the city center but there is not much to do there.
The owners where really friendly and emailed me before I arrived if I had any questions. Because it was sunday and there wasn't a lot of things open, the owner made me a great meal. You have a lot of tvchannels and free wireless so you can pass some time with that.
My only remark would be that it is a little expensive but everything in Belize city is like that but I don't know why, there is not much to do or see.

I stayed for one night in July. It is in a very quiet part of Belize City, so not a lot to do but the owners can drive you places for a fee. The owners are nice enough, maybe overly friendly.

The bed is big and comfortable, the bathroom nice enough, with loads of tv channels if you are killing time to get to the airport.

My gripe is that they would not deduct my deposit from Hostel World from the total bill, and made me pay for laundry in $US instead of BZ as quoted on a notice in the room.

Also had a cockroach crawl across my bed in the middle of the night so I found some bug spray and got two of them.

Sorry to hear about the room had a cockroach. Due to raining season and somewhat it might have enter the room. We will look after the situation more carefully. As for the deposit, you had paid that deposit but that went to the hostel world. Then the price total at the end was with tax upon your payment for the room. As for the laundry, we had realized that we never took down the sign behind the door. Those were old prices and we had change it new now. Sorry for the inconvenience. We will improve on the situation as we go along.
Thank you!
