Owner description: Step aboard the Calypso Train and explore Belize City’s colorful sights and sounds on your open-air trolley tour. Enjoy the cool ocean breeze as your experienced Guide details the rich history and cultural diversity of this former British settlement. You will travel through contrasting districts, viewing affluent residential homes and the former Governor’s Mansion then onto the working class neighborhoods brimming with daily life at the shops and stalls. See the first Anglican Church built in Central America and the oldest building in Belize. St. John’s Cathedral was constructed in 1812 by slaves with ballast bricks from merchant ships. Entering Regent Street you will feel you have stepped back in time. Built for horse and buggy, the narrow streets are lined with quaint shops and small boutique hotels. Here you will see fine examples of restored Colonial architecture, a delightful blend of old and new. No tour of Belize City is complete without a trip over the famous Swing Bridge, said to be the only manually operated bridge of its kind still in use. Your guided tour ends at the Tourism Village where you may browse for handicrafts and souvenirs.

We had no idea of what to do in Belize, did not want to go to a beach.

After we ate at a place close to the tender area we saw a gal offering these tours. We thought it would be a good way to see something else.

It does get you out of the tender dock area, what we saw was not beautiful but very interesting. Our tour was just like the other reviews.

You have to follow the train tracks to behind the store, there is a securtiy guard by the tour building. There are restrooms in the building and they do sell water to drink. It's an open air train on wheels. I thought it might be hot but I was fine, there was always a cool breeze. There are no doors or seatbelts, if you have an active child it might be a challenge.

It is a good tour if you have nothing else planned.

Not what I expected for an excursion... The tour was so depressing as pretty much all you see is run down houses, schools, hospitals and more. The locals seemed happy enough but I feel it was all about how bad things are there and just sad ! The worst part for me was seeing a starving dog in the middle of no where, in a fenced in area with no food or water. I asked why isn't someone helping him and was told by our tour guide that "you'll see plenty of that here". I felt helpless for that animal. Made me sick to say the least and I couldn't wait to get back on the ship !! I really wish the excursion guide book would have made it clearer that this is what you'll be getting for your money. Not worth a penny... Sorry :(

The train ride was informative. You see a lot of run down houses and buildings. The guide explained that if you fixed up the outside of a building you would get a visit from the tax man so people concentrated on the inside of the building. There are no stops and the ride is about 1 hour long.

If you have neck or back issues you may want to skip this tour. Our guide asked us not to tell our friends that the ride was bumpy. He preferred us to say that a full body massage was included on the tour. I have a back issue and after this tour my day in Belize was over.

We signed up for a leisurely open air trolley tour to get some insight on Belize City and the locals. I was fully prepared to see the poverty stricken areas along with landmarks and other noteworthy sights. We saw dilapidated buildings and homes, and nicer buildings and homes including a hardware store, grocery store, etc, but I expected more. Some of the other third world countries I've visited left me with memories of seeing kids running barefoot smiling ear to ear and waving hello to us, homes that were foraged from cardboard and no sewage ducts with a stench that filled the air. I didn't really see that here---which is not a bad thing--but perhaps extending the tour to provide us with more content and history of the people would have been impactful. It would have been nice to just park and soak in the information. The tour guide was articulate, hardworking and polite, and was off to a good start in the waiting room when we learned about the jaguars, etc. In the trolley, however, the content was "clunky" with superficial "filler" facts squeezed in and it felt "rushed". Belize has alot to offer and it's a shame because there's huge opportunity to impart this information to the rest of the world via the tours. On a good note, I wasn't planning on eating the complimentary fried plaintains but boy they sure were delicious.
