Booked hotel online based on reviews. Hotel safe area on outskirts of Belize City, not too far from airport. Only needed hotel for one night. Room on second floor, sparse but clean. A/C worked, TV worked, shower had hot water. Bed comfortable even for someone my size. Hotel run by husband and wife who are very nice and hospitable. No breakfast available as promised, kitchen closed both days i was there. Asked for a cup of coffee and got one without a problem. Hotel mostly caters to Europeans on their way to somewhere else inland or hiking. Rate was very good compared to others found on web sites. The owner picked me up soon after I arrived at airport and drove me back the next day. $25 USD one way, $40 USD RT. Very reasonable pricing based on my 10 years of going to Belize. Family made me feel welcome and I enjoyed the homey casual sense about the place. very quiet no outside noise. Would have loved to sight see if I had more time. Great launching point for your further travels in land.

Room Tip: Take a room on second floor at top of stairs

I recently spent 9 days at the Bakadeer, and loved my stay there. The room was clean and charming. The room A/C units worked better in some rooms than in others, but always provided respite from the heat outside. I can't say enough for the staff's hospitality; I was with a large group, and they worked very hard to provide us with a great stay. I hope to return!

The hotel is within very short walking distance of the Riverside Tavern, a great place to go for food and drinks.

Room Tip: Bottom-floor rooms are tiled; upper-floor rooms are carpeted. They are otherwise very similar.

What a bummer! Our stay would have been excellent had it not been for the transportation payment kerfuffle. The rooms, including the bathroom were clean, below average in comfort with the beds but will do since the AC actually worked quite. Used the laundry services and were extremely pleased, they were done the same day and smelled very very fresh. Food was ok, after seeing the kitchen though, and with great panades about 2 blocks away, I would say go get your food elsewhere! Overall, as I said, an ok stay for the proximity to things, and the functioning AC, but very disappointed on how they handled our transportation payment. The very last day when we were getting ready to pay for everything, Many, the transportation/tour guide dude, claimed that he had made a mistake on the invoice and that the cost for transportation from the Bakadeer to the TEC, and from the TEC to the airport was $240 USD not $240 BZD. The invoice agreed on weeks in advance was all in Belize dollars, and at the last minute, Many got all up on our face about how we were ripping him off and how he has made a mistake on so we still needed to pay in USD. The problem truly was between the Bakadeer management and Many, however they decided to side with Many instead and acted all angry and aggravated at the fact that we were refusing to accept that he had made a mistake and that he meant US dollars not Belize. Because of time restrictions were ended up going with their services but figured we get somewhat even by warning all of you to be careful. Might be better off renting a vehicle, and note that a lot of things are within walking distance. Really was looking forward to write something nice sine our experience was good, but after that incident I am very disgusted at the lack of responsibility and unethical behavior, so much we probably won't go back, or if we do we definitely won't use any of their "extra" services.

Room Tip: Seems like the rooms on the top floor are nicer than those at the bottom floor, meaning the restroom...

This was the worst place I have ever stayed. The room was so tired and dirty. There was no breakfast as advertised. No wi-fi connection was available and the TV was very small. The AC did not have enough power to cool the room but was noisy enough to drown out a sports car. Not that you will get any sports cars in this very shabby part of the city. Altogether a terrible place. Do not go there.

Room Tip: Use a different Hotel!

Belize City is not the safest of cities. We did not have any issues while staying at Bakadeer Inn although we really don't recommend walking around at night, latest we stayed out was 7-8pm. Bakadeer inn is situated on a residential street and has a couple restaurants closeby and a minimart 3 mins walk away.
We found the rooms to be basic but sufficient for our 2 night stay. Positives:
> rooms with AC
> rooms were clean and fairly spacious
> front desk was fairly friendly
> breakfast menu was available to us each day (pancakes & French toast were good!)
> close distance to water taxi & bus depot
Negatives:
> front desk staff (only saw 1 person each shift) covered other jobs such as maid & cooking which meant our room was not fully 'made over' each day like at other hotels
> neighbourhood did not feel safe (although we had no issues)

Shame on Hotwire for rating this hotel as 3 Star. It was worse than a 1 Star. There was no airport transportation as stated on your website. We had to hire a cab to the airport. There were stains on the bed sheets. There was no hot water in the vanity sink. When you turned the hot water knob, absolutely no water came out. The shower was the complete opposite. There was hot water, but hardly any cold. The wood on the bathroom door was splitting in half. The bed was terrible. It was so worn out that we both sunk into the middle and slept practically on top of each other. There were no washcloths only 1 hand towel , 2 small bath towels, a tiny bar of soap and no shampoo or lotion. Breakfast was advertised on their website. There was even a menu for breakfast in our room. However, breakfast was not available to us. We had to go to a restaurant down the street for breakfast. We stayed at this hotel for two nights. After a day of sightseeing, we expected to return to a nice cool, clean room. What we came back to at 5:00 pm was a terribly hot room that was not made up. They took the liberty of turning the A/C off. Our bed was still unmade and the towels were not replinshed. I went to the front desk and asked why. The girl at the front desk said she did not have time to do it. She had front desk duty as well as maid duty. But, there were hardly any guests at this hotel. This hotel was also in a sketchy part of town. It was not a good experience.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 101, it was bad.

We stayed here for one night whilst travelling from Mexico down to Hopkins in the south of Belize.

Belize City is not the most welcoming place to arrive in as it is incredibly run-down. When we got off the bus we did wonder what we were going to find when we arrived at our hotel. However, we were pleasantly surprised. The lady on reception was really warm and friendly when we were checking in. Our room was basic but very nice and clean and the bed was comfortable. We had air-con in the room and free wifi. There was no restaurant as such, but you could order breakfast and they had a drinks fridge in reception.

There are a few restaurants in the area which the lady on reception recommended. One of which was an american diner within 5 minutes walk which did fantastic food. We had read that Belize City is not the sort of place you wonder around at night and this is definately true. At the entrance to the car park of the diner there was a security guard on duty and the diner was surrounded by 3 metre high wire fences! We opted for an early dinner.

Something to bear in mind when travelling in Belize over the Easter period is that they don't run any buses and most shops and restaurants close for 4 days (Fri-Mon) unless you are staying in a very touristy place. We arrived in Belize City on the Thursday before Easter and had no idea about this until we asked about where we could get a bus from!

We were planning on catching a local bus from Belize City down to Hopkins the next morning. However, as there were no buses we decided that we would try an internal flight to Dangriga. The lady on reception was such a star! She telephoned the local airport to find out if flights were still running and then reserved us seats on the first plane on Friday morning. She also phoned round loads of taxi companies trying to find someone that would take us to the airport that morning. Not an easy job when most were not even answering their phones!

Overall, I liked the hotel and I would stay there again if I was ever passing through Belize City. They do a fantastic job running such a nice hotel in such difficult circumstances.
