“Nice Hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 11, 2008

Stayed here for 7 nights with my two sons. I found the hotel to be good value for the money. My room was kept neat and I found the staff to be extremely helpful. Dining room found was good and the pool area well maintained. Was a good base from which to explore Belize. Would stay here again!

We visited a couple of cities in Belize, several people recommended us this hotel.

It is outside of Belize downtown, it is a lot quieter and safer. We rent a car, so you definitely need transportation to stay in this hotel.

We did not book ahead of time, we just drove there straight. We really enjoyed the stay, the room is very spacious, clean with high ceiling. the pool was quiet and beautiful.

We ate at the restaurant a couple of time, it was not busy at all, so we get served pretty fast. Food was very good too. The waiter and waitress are all local people, they are very polite and nice, even tho they might not be very experienced.

we are very happy with our stay and definitely will stay again.

Having been travelling in Belize at many smaller, family run hotels, we booked 3 nights here to relax before travelling back to the UK. What a disappointment. At first glance the hotel entrance and rooms seem clean and a good size - with a nice pool and grounds. However, do not expect to receive a drink from the poolbar - we gave up when we had note received our drinks after an hour's wait - and this after our first three choices not being available. So, then we went to the hotel restaurant for dinner - we all chose meals - only to be told after 10 minutes that none of our choices were available - when we finally did receive food, in two out of three dinners the food was off! The next day was very much the same except that it was not possible for the pool bar to provide coke, diet coke or the local rum (despite shops outside and the distillery five minutes away). We also did not receive towels this day - and despite phoning housekeeping and reception and just about everyone else on the phone list - none were available for 24 hours! The last day I did speak to housekeeping requesting towels - the girl walked off mumbling - two hours later some towels did arrive. On the mornig of our departure, we were woken up by a member of hotel staff asking when we would be checing out as they needed the room - she knocked at 07.45. I will never book with Best Western again.

The Biltmore is the base for an annual fishing trip which I joined this year. It is as good as any mid-range Best Western hotel in the US. Clean, fairly quiet (as quiet as a tropical hotel with room air conditioners can be), nice pool and a pretty good dining room. As our dinners each night consisted of fish the group had caught (snook is terrific), we got pretty used to the fare. Location is OK on the main road to town. The rooms are to the rear of the hotel, so road noise is not a problem. Internet access is fairly expensive at $6 US/hr.
Overall, a nice place to stay with no significant plusses or minuses.

Nice enough hotel not far from the international airport. The location is along a strip of highway between the airport and the city itself. Air conditioner and hot water are included. Pool is nice. There is a modern grocery store and pharmacy (Brodies) along with a ScotiaBank branch within walking distance.

We were delayed getting into Dallas for our flight (7 of us total) and stayed two nights at this hotel. There is nothing around it for miles, but when you walk in the lobby is pleasant and the pool fairly clean and lush. Our room was large by US standards, had a vaulted ceiling, ceiling fan and air conditioning. So far, so good. I did find a few bugs in my bed, however, didn't worry about that too much since, after all, bugs are part of the whole Belize experience, but it did make me wonder if our sheets had been washed.
Unfortunately, the service in the restaurant was horrible. The waitress obviously hated her job and the hostess wasn't
much better. I had to ask for my missing breakfast items, upon which I got a shrug and a glass of orange juice about 15 min. later. No smiles, no apology. Another time we ordered a simple plate of nachos poolside After more than an hour, we had to ask for them. Somehow the order had been lost; again, no apologies or smiles. The cleaning crew was a bit better, but we had to ask for a couple extra towels twice (we had two in our room, but there were four of us total) and never did receive them. In a 2nd room, the cleaner took my poor mother's towels to clean and never brought any back. My mother walked around and found the cleaning person to ask for a towel off the cart and she told her she couldn't have one, that they were for other rooms. MANAGEMENT: GET A NEW RESTAURANT AND CLEANING CREW!!! Overall, I would stay here again for the convenience factor (close to the airport), but for no other reason!

My husband, two boys and I stayed here overnight recently after having spent a lovely week on Ambergris Caye. Upon entering the room it appeared to be clean, pleasant, the AC worked and there were no plumbing leaks, clogs and no nasty bugs in the room, so far so good! The grounds were lush and appeared well-kept. We were close to the pool, which is in the middle or courtyard area of the hotel. The hotel is out of town, no restaurants within walking distance which is why we opted to eat on site at The Victoria Room which was a mistake. The restaurant was not crowded at all, however we waited an entire hour for our food, I'm talking salad and sandwiches type fare! We inquired three times with two different staff, meanwhile our 4yo was crying and pulling the tablecloth off and the 11yo was ready to go eat a leftover bag of airline pretzels in the room! Finally our food showed up after my husband went in search of the hotel manager. After we ate l nearly caused a "scene" and they were finally able to find a food-service manager. She inquired and found out that our ticket had been set aside and forgotten! All she could offer was an apology and she "comped" our 4 year-old's meal. We then went back to the room to relax and the kids wanted to swim. However by this time the private poolside event was in full swing with a loud DJ and partiers. The signage regarding the event said it was to run from 7-9pm. At 10pm I went to the front desk since the music was shaking our walls and windowpanes. I was told to look for the event manager by the pool bar but had no luck locating him. At 10:30pm the music was switched to a bit softer selection, still loud but not the pounding-thumping that had been played up to that point. The boys still wanted to swim so I finally went back up to the front desk and inquired again when the late-running event would be over so the kids could swim. They just said go ahead and swim, so my kids marched right through the partiers and jumped in, while my husband and I stood poolside watch. It was ridiculous that the DJ and partiers took over the pool while paying hotel guests' complaints were ignored. I would not stay at this hotel again, as a matter of fact, avoid spending any overnight stays in Belize City - get out to the Cayes or go to a jungle resort - the City was dirty and everyone we spoke to said DON'T walk anywhere after dark - take a taxi and travel in numbers if you have to venture out. The hotel had security guards walking the premises very visibly and the grounds were well-lit so I felt safe, but my overall impression of this Best Western wasn't great.

  • Liked — The grounds were lush, well-kept, room was clean and had modern conveniences
  • Disliked — Service at the on-site restaurant, lack of attention to complaints by hotel desk and staff
  • Tips/Secrets — Skip any overnights in Belize City and head for to the Cayes or a Jungle resort
