Owner description: Charlie's Tours are very educational, ecological-oriented and adequate for school kids and students of all ages. Charlie offers an excellent ecological tour on the trails just prior to having to tube through the mysterious caves where the Maya priests once prayed to and worshiped the Gods of the Underworld. At Charlie's Cave Tubing we cater especially to our Eco-friendly guests. We are very serious about the conservation and preservation of the caves. We are sure you will find this a very relaxing and pleasant experience.

When was the last time you were on Trip Advisor and saw 91 ratings with 89 "Excellent" and 2 "Very Good"? There is always someone who complains - not with Charlie. First, we were worried about not getting back to the cruise ship on time. Set your mind at ease. Don't worry about that. He will get you back with plenty of time. Now for the event. 1. Charlie is extremely knowledgeable. His Myan ancestry has filled him with information that you will not find from young teenagers leading other Cave Tubing companies. As we are stopping along the way and Charlie is sharing his knowledge, other tubing companies are walking past us on their way to the starting point. Some tourists would stop along the way to listen in on Charlie. 2. The other extremely positive thing is that all of the other tube companies make you carry your tubes. It is a hike through the jungle. With Charlie, his sons carry the tubes ahead of time, and they are sitting at the starting point when you get there. As the other tourists are hiking through the jungle following a teenager carrying their own tours, we were on a nature hike without carrying tubes. 3. Charlie keeps his tour group small. My wife and I were with two other people. The tour consisted of Charlie, his son and the 4 of us. Charlie could share information along the way. With the other tour companies, there are as many as 20 tourists, and you may be nowhere near your guide. 4. Finally, and not that this is important for someone who can pay for a cruise, but the rate with Charlie is $50/person as opposed to about $130/person if you book it through the cruise.

First off Charlie is a small operation. You need to book in advance or he may be full.
Charlie picked us up at the cruise terminal. He was very easy to spot. The group ended up being 7 people plus Charlie and his son. We loaded in his air-conditioned van and started to drive to the cave tubing location. The entire drive Charlie showed us historical landmarks and talked about the culture, economy, and geological features. We were surprised at the state of disrepair of the roads. If you get carsick easily I recommend taking something beforehand.

At the parking lot there are changing rooms and bathroom facilities. Most of the other groups were issued tubes, life jackets, headlights, and helmets. We just had to worry about carrying the headlights. Charlie's son carry up all of our tubes.

The hike up was very pleasant. It was just over a mile with a minor increase in elevation. Along the way Charlie showed us the local plants including the ones that were edible. He also showed us which ones were used as dyes by the Mayans. On several occasions I noticed people from other groups sliding closer to hear.

The actual ride was quite interesting but not very exciting. The water was low enough that in many places Charlie and his son had to paddle to get us out in time. There are a number of places to get in. If you have time and are up for an adventure, request that Charlie take you off the beaten path to a much further location. We were running out of time and didn't have the luxury nor proper attire for bushwhacking. Charlie has been a guide for a very long time and knows all the secrets.

The tube ride takes you back to the start of the path. We dropped off our tubes and then had a lunch with chicken, beans, and rice. It was simple but good. If you like spicy then try the hot sauce on the table. It is very good with the rice.

The ride home was much quicker because we were on track to miss the last tender. Charlie stayed in contact with the dockmaster and assured us several of the cruise's tours were still further out. Although we ultimately ended up at the tender 15 minutes late, there were still 2 tenders after ours. Charlie was right once again.

Bottom line. This is a great tour if you want something more personal and intimate. Charlie is also easy to coordinate with if you have other activities in mind. Just make sure you have enough time.

We booked a cave tubing tour thru Charlie. Charlie provided excellent costumer service from the time I booked via email until the tour was complete. Unfortunately, when we arrived in Belize via the Carnival Dream, excessive rain prevented us from cave tubing. Due to high river waters, tubing was not a safe option. Instead, Charlie offered to take us an another tour instead for the same price. He gave us a few options and we decided on exploring another Cave that you can hike into and a sink whole called Blue Hole. Both of these are located in the rain forests of Belize. Needless to say, it was beautiful and an excellent port day.

The rain forest hike was beauitul, the cave was really neat, and the Blue Hole was amazing. We got to swim in the Blue Hole.

Charlie and his sons are excellent. Charlie has a degree in ecelogical science and his son is also a liscensed tour guide. They were very knowledgable about local vegitation and Belize history.

The only confusion/misunderstanding we had was on pricing for kids. We had 2 little ones with us and Charlie's website advertised kids being cheaper then adults. That was not the case for us. It was not a problem because we brought enough to pay the full price for the kids, but the website caused confusion for us. Either way, Charlie is worth every penny.

Charlie provides a safe, econimcal and unBelizable experience! Do not hesitate to book, you will like him!!!

we came from a cruise, i reserved the tour with charlie via email. charlie picks you up at the cruise terminal in a van. he drives you through belize and tells you the most amazing things as you are driving the the rain forest about belize, the people and culture. then you have a wonderful hike through the jungle and he will point out the most amazing things and tell you about it. you will love all of this. then he took us a little further down the path to explore and extra cave. you dont have to carry your tubes unlike the other companies that are flying past you because there tour guides are in a rush. charlie spends the whole day with you... then you relax through the caves floating and charlie will tell you many interesting stories and show you the beautiful features of the caves. after all that is over charlie gives you a delicious lunch of chicken and beans. i was so tired from everything i fell asleep on the ride home. this was by a significant margin the best cruise tour excursion i have ever had. you simply wont believe how amazing of a time you will have. do it with Charlie!!

This was an amazing day with a great guide. We did not go with Charlie as promised, but with Alphius, who was terrific! It was so great to be able to learn about Belize as he was a wonderful and informative guide.

We went cave tubing and then to Altun Ha ruins, which were beautiful. He knew a lot about everything we saw and was a lot of fun to be with.

I highly recommend using a local company rather than the cruise ship organized tours. It is a little less expensive and more of your money stays in the country you are visiting.
