Arrived at the pier 30 minutes late from cruise ship not calling people to leave. Guide Elvis and boat operator Robbie were friendly and knowledgable. Only problem was Elvis should use a microphone because the people in the rear of the boat could not hear anything he said. Had to keep asking him to repeat. River cruise was nice - lots of birds, iguanas, crocodiles etc. Arrived at Black Orchid Resort for lunch which gave you 2 choices for $8.00 each. Spent too much time waiting for bus to arrive to take us to Altun Ha Mayan ruins. Only had 15 minutes to spend there while you really need at least an hour to appreciate and explore the beauty.

We scheduled our trip to the Lamanai ruins last minute in Miami before leaving on a Carnival cruise ship. It turned out to be the highlight of the entire trip. After we got off the ship our guides were easy to find. There were several other cruise ship passengers on the excursion so we waited until everyone showed up. Our guide EZ was a local Belizian Mayan Indian. He was entertaining and captivating for the entire tour. He told us all about Belizian culture and life while we traveled to the ruins. We started off on a bus for about an hour and then on a 25 mile boat trip up the river to the site of the ruins. We saw lots of wildlife along the way, iguanas, crocodiles, monkeys and exotic birds. There were also lots of beautiful vistas along the river as we made our way to the ruins. We had a Belizian meal waiting for us at the ruins; it was delicious with jerk chicken, bean, rice, salad, fried plantains, and habanero chutney salsa. The ruins and the jungle were spectacular. We saw and heard the local "dinosaurs", the howler monkeys. The alpha males make a loud growling sound that was taped as the voice of the dinosaurs in the movie Jurasic Park. The ruins were large and grand. The carvings were amazing. The jungle was beautiful. We were able to hike to the top of the highest temple, 212 feet above the jungle floor. From up there you could see the jungle, the river, and the savannah on the other side of the river. You could also hear the monkeys really well from the top. Our guide EZ was with us the entire time sharing stories and lots of interesting explanations of the ruins. If you're LDS you can request and LDS guide which was also a treat. I highly recommend this tour. It makes a lasting impression and offers an unforgettable experience. And ... BTW ... we made it back to our tender boat even though it took the whole day.

We had a real adventure riding bikes in the rainforest, in the rain! As it turned out, the weather cleared and we had a terrific time. The bike ride was fun - not as easy as one might think considering it was wet, slippery and there were lots of turns and roots. Might have been easier had it been dry. Still, lots of fun and very interesting and entertaining. The buffet luncheon was very good, the pool beautiful, the nature walk educational.

At this location there was also horseback riding. A fellow cruiser reported he had a good time. The horses looked healthy and well taken care of. His only complaint was the group was too large and should have been segregated according to skill level.

We visited Belize as a port of call while cruising on the Carnival Liberty. We opted to book an excursion with a third-party rather than Carnival. I have no regrets about going with Island Marketing Ltd. for our cave tubing trip. We began the tour promptly after our tender boat arrived and were back to the port well-within time to do a little shopping before getting on a tender boat to return to the ship.

Our guide, Wentworth, was full of information about Belize and everything about its history, environment, and culture. Everyone on the tour really seemed to enjoy the food provided.

Some of the other tours being run at the same time seemed a little more rigid than I would have liked. For example, they were all wearing helmets (come on, the river is hardly ever faster than a "lazy river" that you'd find at any water park in the U.S.) and had their tubes linked together closely in a double line. I felt adequately safe on this tour but didn't feel like there were unnecessary safety measures that impeded on having a good time.

The cave tubing trip involves a short hike (carrying your tube) through the forest and up to the entry into the river. I actually enjoyed this, but I (a) generally like hiking (b) was forewarned, and (c) was prepared (bug spray, taking a quick swim in the river before starting, and wearing shoes that were adequate for hiking but could also dry quickly). The hike could be done in less than 30 minutes, but it takes 40-45 minutes when waiting for the slower people in the group.

Some people in the group did the zip line and cave tubing combo trip. They zip lined and then took a shorter trip down the river for cave tubing. They said the zip lining was just OK. No regrets on opting for the cave tubing-only tour.

We had such a good time on a cave tubing excursion in Belize. We had Wentworth, Too Tall and another young lady as our guides. They all did a wonderful job making sure we stayed safe and enjoyed ourselves. Wentworth was AWESOME!!! He was knowledgeable, funny and a wonderful guide! He made the trip a total success. It was a very crowded day but he made sure all went well. I just wanted you to realize what a great employee you have. The tamales we had for lunch were delicious!
We went to Island Marketing Ltd http://belizecruiseexcursions.com/
