“Grows on you”

Staying at Shirley's was like staying at your great aunt's lake cabin. It was outdated, but very clean. There were rules posted on the door. And there was a giant cockroach in the bathroom one night, but don't worry, I got him. I was not impressed when we first arrived, but after staying five nights, I didn't want to go!

First of all, it's on the water. Beautiful view. Its a great location, far enough away to be quiet, but a quick walk/ride along the beach to the action. I would highly recommend renting bikes for a stay on Caye Caulker. It's a small island, yes, but it makes getting around so much easier, and it's cheap. We found a great little place in between Atlantic Bank and the Plaza Hotel on Middle Street. It's a fruit stand/bike rental. We rented two bikes for 5 days and it cost about $80 Belize. And you get a liter of fresh juice for $5 Belize.

The other nice thing about Shirley's is no kids. It's just very quiet and private and comfortable. We stayed in a room with a shared bath, but I would have preferred the private bath for another $10.

Shirley's Guest House is a perfect getaway !!!!

Super quiet, Great hot water, never needed air conditioning or even the fan because the breeze was always enough even while sleeping.
No bugs at all, inside or out 8-)
Beautiful clean cottages on the beach.
The sheets and towels were always fresh.
Shirley was a great host, warm and happy as a friend would be.
A fast walk to town put you in the middle of everything you would need from Diving to Sweet Rolls and Fresh Juices.

I wasn't going to write a review because I wanted to keep this place a secret but Shirley and her place were so nice she deserves a great rating...

If you're looking for quiet and low key Shirley's Guest house is the place! Shirley was very pleasant from booking to checkout. Our cottage was clean, safe and had beautiful views of the ocean. It also had the hottest water we've ever experienced in Belize. It's within easy waking distance from the main strip but far enough to feel secluded. Caye Caulker is much quieter and less crowded than San Pedro, and it's restaurants are just as good if not better! We noticed it was cheaper too! You can book dives, fish, tour the ruins and snorkel from any of the operators long the main street. We look forward to staying with Shirley next year as well.
