Belize City to Caye Caulker Round Trip Boat Ride
Attraction details

I stayed in Caye Caulker as part of a tour and this island was my first introduction to Belize. The island can be explored in a day or so. The main attraction would be the numerous water activities however though I enjoy the beach, I am not an ocean person, so this limited my options.

The place has a very laid back feel which is reflected by the residents and the tourists. I noted many expats on the island and the main form of transport besides foot appears to be golf buggies. There are no 'roads' on the island, just compacted white sand, so ensure you have your sunnies handy at all times as the glare is unbelievable.

There are a number of places to eat and drink, all within walking distance of accommodation, so this is also a bonus.

It is a nice place to unwind if water activities and going slow is your goal, however I would not visit this island again as it did not suit my needs.

The 30 minute sail to Caye Caulker was extremely pleasant and relaxing. Definitely recommend visting Caye Caulker (whether via the water taxi or a tour). It is reminiscent of Ambergris Caye but much smaller, more quaint and much less developed. The food was very local food (fresh fish, conch, etc) and the atmosphere was slower which was nice to experience. Most of the time at Caye Caulker we spent at the bar at the end of the island (Lazy Lizard). We had a good time there, ordered a local cocktail and local beer and hung out swimming in the channel, drinking and enjoying watching other people at the bar. There were lots of people sunbathing around the bar (since it is literally in the water) and there were a good amount of locals who you could tell frequented the bar. Downside was that they didn’t serve any food. We were hoping they would have maybe their equivalent of bar food but they didn’t have anything to eat. Be careful swimming in the channel as boats pass by there frequently. Recommend swimming in the front by the beach area and you can even do some fishing off water. We ended up having lunch at the Coconut Reef Caribbean Trattoria which was a good experience. The food was great, I got the fish of the day and my wife got a quesadilla. Both were very good and if you sit out back the sceneray is to die for. They have a hammock that rests above the water and is next to a dock so you can have the enjoyemnet of watching charters came back and forth. The price was a bit higher than we would have otherwise thought for the meal but then again all the restaurants on Caye Caulker and Ambergris Caye weren’t cheap (they have to import everything but their fish and vegetables).

Caye Caulker offers sufficient options for dining and adventure and plenty of places to relax and do nothing. A great balance and a great way to end a visit to Belize.

We had a very relaxing time here. We very much enjoyed the laid back atmosphere. The food was not really that good in general at the many restaurants we ate at, but unfortunately we were there when it was not lobster season. We did a snorkel tour of the reef and shark ray alley and it was amazing. There isn't much to do on Caye Caulker except snorkel, dive or relax. We would love to return someday. There were very few families with kids when we were there, but our kids loved it. anywhere they can play in water, find shells and lay around on the beach makes them happy.

Less expensive rooms than San Pedro but dirty, corrupted police harrassing tourist. Tours are expensive.
