Thanks to Stacy, Anna, the Curry's and the staff for making our 2-week stay and wedding absolutely perfect and exactly what we wanted! Also thanks to Lee at Carribean Colors for our amazing wedding photos! Caye Caulker is a laid-back amazing slice of paradise and we loved our stay over Christmas and New Year's, and plan to be back soon. The Sea Dreams was located at the perfect spot for us: quiet at night, a stone's throw from the small public beach and snorkeling around the split. Breakfast on the rooftop was a great way to start the day. Our room #8 was cozy and clean, no complaints. Some rooms have kitchens but food on the island is wonderful...so why cook on vacation! People are so friendly on Caye Caulker. Free hotel bikes were always around to "explore" the island or go for a meal. Other than the odd truck, traffic consists of pedestrians, bikes, and golf carts. The island is so small anyways, you're never that far from anything except the airstrip. There is a bank with ATM on the island so never had problems getting local currency. US dollars are accepted at 2:1 fixed ratio, so easy math if that's all you carry. US dollar travelers cheques were easy to use too. I think you get charged something like 5% for using credit card. We did the whole day snorkeling trip to Hol Chan with Raggamuffins (only complaint was the weather) and Blue Hole/Half Moon Caye/Aquarium dive trip with Frenchies. Being inexperienced divers we opted to snorkel the Blue Hole instead...but the other two wall dives were fantastic. Both companies provided excellent service. Make sure you visit Sandro's for an incredible home-cooked italian meal. Marin's has a nice fish soup and try a ginger juice. Syd's has a beautiful courtyard and fried chicken is a specialty. If you forget toiletries or anything while packing there's like 5 convenience stores on the island.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Sea Dreams Hotel is a family-run boutique hotel on the quaint island of Caye Caulker. We are located at the north end of the village which affords a three-sided view of the Caribbean Sea. Guests quickly become part of the Sea Dreams family: eating breakfasts with Iris on our thatch-covered rooftop, picking up fishing tips from Haywood on our dock, planning excursions with Anna, Stephanie or Kelly learning about island education with Heidi, enjoying impeccable housekeeping services from Maria Elena & Melanie, or enjoying a tropical drink with Celia at our Banyan Tree Bar. Our dock, located on the leeward edge of the split, is the entry into a unique slice of paradise: perfectly clear and calm, chest-deep, turquoise water with a white sandy bottom. Every evening, guests watch the sun melt into these waters and cast pastel shades across the skies. When guests are not diving, snorkeling, fishing, kite boarding, or touring Mayan ruins, they relax at the hotel with a drink at the bar, a massage at the spa, a book in a hammock, or a canoe ride to feed the local Tarpon. Accommodations range from intimate courtyard rooms to one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, cabana, and home.
