“Best snorkel group in laid back Caye Caulker”
Reviewed February 11, 2013

Almost anyone can snorke and Anwar Tours will give you a terrific experience. This is their backyard and they know it well! The trip to the reef and two other places is half a day and it's a day trip to Co Chan and the blue hole.

I recommend them highly for knowledge of the ecosystems and concern for their quests. Five experienced staff and licensed boat captains are your tour guides.

It’s an isle where people say good-morning to strangers and feel good! There are no cars so people slow down and get around by bare foot (or with shoes) and by renting bikes. A few motor taxies are available. Sun at the split, hear hip Caribbean musid and enjoy lobster, shrimp and red snapper all day.

“Altun Ha, River Tour & Jungle”
Reviewed January 13, 2013

This is a great tour. It starts off with a 45 min speed boat ride from Caye Caulker to the mainland and about another 45 mins up the Northern river where you have a chance to see crocodiles, birds and all kinds of flora. We arrived at a small village & hopped on a mini colourful school bus which brought us through bumpy dirt roads leading to Altun Ha Maya Ruins. Although these ruins are modest, they aren't overcrowded with tourists, and you're still allowed to climb them. The experience of seeing these ruins was amazing...especially on December 21st, 2012 ;) Afterwards, you're brought to a nursery where you can eat fruit right off the tree! With a tour price of $100 US, lunch should have been included however it is available for purchase at the next stop: a resort in the middle of the jungle! You eat in a tree house and have the chance to go for a quick dip in one of the mineral or salt water pools before heading back to the village to catch the boat back. We highly recommend this tour.

“Fabulous tour of Altun Ha and North River”
Reviewed January 8, 2013

I heartily recommend Anwar Tours. The boat trip alone is worth the journey, and Erico is very knowledgeable about the local flora and fauna. Although the data provided about the Maya is a bit dated, Altun Ha is a great example of a Mayan city and actually climbing up and down the steps gives each visitor a good feel for the lives of the ancient Mayans. The best part of the tour for me was getting to visit a local nursery and talking to the owner about his business. That really gave me insight into how people make a living in Belize. Moreover, Erico, our guide, is a very good ambassador for Belize itself: He and his brother Javier own the business and work hard to make each trip a success for those who take it.

“Great snorkeling”
Reviewed August 28, 2012

We had an excellent snorkeling trip with Jose and Joe on the Anwar, Joe is an excellent guide and full of information about the reef. He was great at pointing out things that we would have missed including 2 moray eels, several crustaceans and many fishes, And swimming with the sharks and rays was really a unique experience.

“Not satisfied with our tour”
Reviewed May 3, 2012

We just returned from Belize last week. After two great excursions with Ragamuffin Tours while staying on Caye Caulker, we signed up for a full-day snorkeling excursion with Anwar Tours on our last day as that tour gets you back in time for the last boat taxi back to the mainland (and unfortunately, Ragamuffin did not). We were so disappointed with our day with Anwar Tours. It was not even comparable to our experiences with Ragamuffin at all. We were told that usually they have between 10 and 12 people on each tour, which in our opinion would still be a lot of people for a boat the size of Carlos'. But on this day, there were 15 clients and 3 guides. It was way too many people. It felt unsafe and crowded on the boat (we were all on top of each other) and snorkeling in a group that big with 1 guide is a completely mediocre experience. They said that given the size of the group they would split us into two groups when snorkeling, each with a guide, but that did not happen. The knowledge of the guides was totally subpar in our opinion and we didn't explore Hol Chan Reserve to the same extent at all with Anwar Tours. Finally, we were given one small packet of water and a piece of limp chicken on a bun for lunch that they left sitting out in the sun for an hour at one of the snorkeling spots.

Having done two days with Ragamuffin (great guides, suitable ratio of guide:people (1:8), great homemade lunch, fresh ceviche, rum punch, all the water you can drink!), I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them every time over Anwar. It just wasn't comparable in any way.
