“xanadu is a tropical paradise and retreat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 9, 2007

Nine of us stayed at Xanadu for the week before Christmas. We LOVED it! The cabana is lovely with a view of the ocean and the magical dock with hammock and thatch roof. The cabana is curved, has a deck and full kitchen. We ate breakfast on the beach in front of our cabana. The pool was immaculate and very pretty. Xanadu is landscaped with palm trees in a way that make it feel like a quiet haven, yet every night we meandered down the beach for dinner and beach front dancing. The staff went out of their way to make us comfortable. When the airline misplaced our bag, Xanadu called a clothing store on the island to make sure they stayed open for us and help us shop (!). Xanadu booked a fantastic catamaran sailboat snorkel trip with beach barabacue that was so unique and fun for ALL of us (mixed drinks for the adults, lots of play for the children on the boat and deserted beaches). They sent us on a river trip to ruins and a junlge lodge for dinner in the treetops. They arranged for us to snorkel and dive with the friendliest sharks and rays (we could pet them underwater). The local folks that Xanadu hooked us up with were the friendliest, most knowledgeable guids you could ask for. The is was unique, relaxing, and interesting trip in paradise.

We stayed at Xanadu in March 2006 and returned with our teenage children over the Christmas Break 2006. The units are clean and well appointed; very comfortable, with a full kitchen. The A/C works. Xanadu is small, so there is a pleasant sense of quiet and private (ie., not a "Club Med" type of place). Perhaps the greatest strength of Xanadu is its staff. They were awesome at arranging excursions, booking dinner reservations, taxis, and generally making sure our stay was comfortable. We bought breakfast and lunch food and ate in the apartment; dinners we went out. Suggestions: (1) Have the resort book a dinner reservation for the night you arrive as the better places fill up. (2) You can walk to most places along the beach but the roads can be muddy and are always busy. Many folks in San Pedro get around on a golf cart. If you want one, be sure to book early! (3) Book snorkeling and other excursions through the front desk. They know the best operators, get fair prices, and happily make everything easy. (4) While there may be some coffee, etc. in your unit, best asume there is nothing there. A small "corner store" at the end of the Xanadu drive handles the basics and a supermarket in town carries everything you might need.

We arrived at Xanadu after missing the first day due to flight delays getting into Belize City. San Pedro was just emerging from a week of major rains and the streets were flooded, transformed into muddy, treacherous obstacle courses for our rental golf cart. But immediately upon arrival at Xanadu, we knew our luck was changing. Stacey Chesnick, the concierge at the desk, had already been doing everything she could to try and track us down, and she quickly began making all the necessary calls and arrangements for us to get our visit back on track. The amenities of our family suite (there were five of us, 2 adults, three teens) were far more than adequate, and I was particularly impressed with the fully equipped kitchen. And the reappearance of the sun was the best omen of all.
During the next four days of diving and exploring San Pedro, we were reassured by being able to turn to Stacey for recommendations, and we found her knowledge of the local options for food, etc., to be not only helpful but well-informed. She truly made the difference in our experience on this, our first visit to San Pedro and Xanadu. Based on this trip, we'd definitely contact Xanadu again in the future, and we're just glad things worked out as well as they did.

My wife and I just returned from our second stay at Xanadu. We were so impressed with the resort the first time we were there,
"2004" ,that we could not wait to go back. To our surprise the resort was even more beautiful than the first visit. The pool is surrounded by coconut palms and lush flowering tropical plants and is perfectly cared for, as is the rest of the property. We have looked at all the resorts but would not consider staying anywhere else. The rooms are comfortable and clean and decorated with original art by one of the owners Judy, not to mention the view of the beautiful ocean and private pier. Our favorite place to eat " George's' is a five minute walk down the beach and San Pedro is another ten minute walk, very close to everything. The main reason we will be going for a third visit is the staff, Susan, Stacey, Martin, and Alex. They made us feel like friends and took care of all our needs. All we had to do was enjoy our vacation. There were no surprises at check-out and was truly a good value for what we experienced. Words can't do justice. You must see for you'reself. Go to Xanadu !

We have returned from our first trip to Belize engaged to be married! I had every intention of popping the question during our stay, as the place is fantastic, and our stay at Xanadu especially so. Many thanks to Stacey, Susan and Martin, and the other friendly staff at the resort that made our holiday so memorable.
I gave Susan (and Stacey) quite a list of tours and excursions to book for us, and she came through with flying colours. I can recommend Lamanai as a must-do, even though it is a long day of speedboat travelling, the wildlife is amazing. The Blue Hole was a must for me, as an avid diver - and Elise was glad of the day off!
Xanadu was a great choice, the accommodation was just like being at home, with great facilities. The pool was very welcome after a long day of tours, and the town is a five minute golf cart ride away.
Belize, Ambergris Caye, and Xanadu will forever be in our mind when we are planning a holiday! Thank you. Jamie and Elise, Southampton, UK.

I returned from my 6th trip to Ambergris Caye in the last 5 years. My traveling partner and I spent only 5 nights at Xanadu over the recent Thanksgiving holiday. This was my second stay there - her third. We both have stayed at several other places on the island, but have decided we like Xanadu best.

Xanadu is very tranquilo - close enough to town, yet far enough for peace, quiet and relaxation. The staff is attentive and friendly (hi Stacey and Su!). Bikes are available for free, full kitchens in the rooms, great AC, celing fans - everything you would need or want. The grounds are clean, the pool is inviting and the beach in front of the property is very nice.

The property is great for singles, families, couples - everybody. There is a local store right next door to pick up almost anything you might need.

Everytime I go to Belize, I leave a piece of my heart there. Can't wait for the next time!
