Our two 20-something kids and their friend or significant other joined us for our 30th anniversary vacation at Xanadu for a week. We loved that the property was small, lush, and has an outstanding staff. Melanie, Jemele (sp?), Franz and Orlando never minded us asking questions, giving us recommendations, or just chatting! Orlando even lent me a steel brush to clean my conch shell - nice! The full kitchen was great and we appreciated having coffee and sugar waiting for us. Having a market and restaurants (let alone an amazing bakery) right behind the property made eating breakfast, sometimes lunch, and having snacks and cold drinks very convenient and appreciated. We appreciated having kayaks and bikes to borrow for free and loved sitting at the end of the dock and swimming out there. If we go back to Belize we are definitely going back to Xanadu. We had a great time and highly recommend it - and we got no kick-back for saying any of this!

Room Tip: We loved being ocean-front, but probably not imperative because all the rooms are just steps from th...

My wife and I built up Xanadu quite a bit before our first trip to Belize and it exceeded every expectation we had. From the location, to the staff, to the accommodations, everything was among the best we have experienced from a resort. The location is excellent, only a short walk from downtown San Pedro and several really fantastic restaurants(The Baker!) and local grocery stores only steps away. We have traveled quite a bit in the Caribbean and Xanadu has hands down the friendliest staff of any resort we have ever stayed. They all seem to generally care that you are having a great time and are ready to help out with anything you need, as well as take the time to point out the local wild life and various plants on the property. We had a great time feeding and learning about the resident iguanas with Orlando, who we cant wait to see when we go back. The accommodations are also really great and have the same amenities you might find in a residential apartment. We had the loft room number 2 and it was nice to be able to have the kitchen to make late night snacks and keep a variety of drinks around when we wanted them. We also booked several tours through Xanadu and those exceeded our expectations as well, we appreciated the fact that they seem to use smaller, independent local guides all of which had grown up on the island and were really friendly. To sum it up, Xanadu was amazing and we cant wait to go back, I am usually the type who likes to get back home after a week away but this time I really did not want to leave.

My wife and I stayed here for 13 days on our honeymoon at the end of May and beginning of June. We looked at resorts in Ambergris Caye for a couple of days before coming and finally decided to stay here. We are extremely glad we did. While on the island we toured the other resorts that we had as second, third, etc. choices and again, our decision was further reinforced. We stayed the first three nights in room 1 and the remainder or our time in room 2 (the honeymoon loft).

The rooms were great and having a kitchen was definitely a plus. The housekeeping staff was excellent and they even wash your dishes for you each day! We booked a ton of excursions and the front desk staff (Jimal and Franz) were extremely helpful and friendly. They went the extra mile to make sure our vacation was hassle free. It is nice when the staff knows your first name!

Also worth mentioning is Orlando, one of the staff there that is extremely friendly and helpful. He went early AM to get us fresh fish that we BBQ'd on the BBQ that they have available for guests to use. He will go out of his way to make sure you are having a good time and have everything you need.

One thing to note is that we got a golf cart the second day we were there to try it out. After using it for a day we got it for the rest of our trip which was an excellent idea. It allowed us to go around the island and try a different restaurant each night, visit the Palapa bar on the north end a few times and really see San Pedro. Not having to walk miles and miles back and forth each day or rely on a cab was a nice feeling of freedom. I would highly recommend that you grab one while you are there.

While the resort doesn't have a bar or restaurant you can get beers from the front desk staff while you are there. We did that until we found the B&B Bottling company (just a short drive down the road from the hotel - not the once that is in town) where we purchased a couple of cases of Belekin beer and then returned them and got the redemption value back ($11 US back for two cases). That got the price down to about a little more than $1 US per beer!

Another nice thing about the resort (or any with their own pier) is that any excursions that you do on the water (i.e. snorkeling, diving, sunset sail, Caye Calker sail, etc.) is that you get picked up right off the Xanadu pier and dropped off back there when you are done.

The only not 5 bubble experience was the mattresses in Room 1 (two bedroom suite). They must be pretty old as they were a bit uneven and not very comfortable. When we got to Room 2, that mattress was fine.

Room Tip: Room 2 is better than Room 3 (for the honeymoon lofts) - better view.

This resort is unlike any other on Ambergris Caye. It is intimate lodging in a lush setting. Our 2 bedroom condo was luxurious and lacked nothing. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this resort.

We stayed at Xanadu for our honeymoon. The hotel is beautiful and in a great location. The rooms were spacious and clean, and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. We just told them what we wanted to do and they took care of booking any adventures for us. For the price, I doesn't get any better than Xanadu.

My husband and I stayed @ Xanadu for 5 days. We loved every moment of it. I can not say enough good things about the staff. We used them to book all of our activities, and were never once disappointed. The rooms had everything you could possibly need and the pool was amazing. It was lovely and warm and the perfect place to relax after a day of diving. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left they took care of everything - even picking us up at the airport. We appreciated that there was no restaurant on site as it encourage us to go out and explore the town and find interesting places to eat. The hotel was conveniently located for this, and they had free bikes or you could rent golf carts. All of the staff's recommendations were spot on. Although our suite was equipped with a full kitchen we only really made use of it for breakfast, preferring the fresh ceviche offered at many of the local restaurants. The grounds were wonderful - we loved the jungle like feel and relative seclusion of the rooms, although the place was full when we were there you very much felt as though you had the hotel to yourself which is quite something. We can't say enough good things about Xanadu and highly recommend it.

Room Tip: We had a pool facing room, which was great but there are some that face the ocean, which looked grea...

What a wonderful holiday. From the romantic setting and location of the resort (nestled away on a private stretch of beach while still being close to town, restaurants, bakery etc.) to the friendliness and efficiency of the staff it was a superb place to have a holiday away from the hustle and bustle. The staff were hardly noticeable, going about their businesses efficiently and discreetly but they were always willing and available when required to assist. Management was well organised, from bookings, to arranging air charters, check-in and transfers everything ran smoothly. We loved the place and we loved the people.
