Exotic Caye Beach Resort
Ranked #47 of 55 Hotels in San Pedro

We had never been to Belize before and I have to say that we had the most wonderful experience! We have traveled to many various places in the Caribbean, Mexico, Europe, Venezuela and we definitely had the very best treatment that we received at any place that we have stayed. Kelly, Paul, Irene, Ben and Mate are the greatest people who truly care and take care of their customers who visit this nice establishment right on the beach! We stayed at the Resort for 6 days.

Ms. Sara's Kitchen is a great breakfast place with homemade Habanero hot sauce that will tingle your tongue when you eat it on your eggs. And the later effects that you experience truly expresses the hotness of the Habanero peppers.

I don't have one complaint about the one bedroom apartment right on the beach with a beautiful view of the sea day and night. The pool looks small, but believe me when you are hot, it is very refreshing; and we took dips regularly during the day.

This is not a five star hotel, but that is what I really liked about the property. I like the rustic feel and look and would not go back it they develop the property into an American type pristine structure. I would love to return one day to hopefully see the same beautiful establishment with the same smiling faces.

We used the kitchen to cook and they have everything that you need for cooking your own meals and cleaning up.

We rented a golf cart for one week for $225 U.S. and drove around the island (which is right across the street). I highly recommend renting a golf cart to get around and we had a blast! Had dinner at Elvi's on a Friday for a Mayan feast that was unique and awesome. Ate Lobster, Grouper and Coconut Prawns at the Blue Water Grill which was fabulous. Bought some Lobster ($12 U.S. a pound at Green Grocery store downtown) which we grilled right on the beach and ate in our apartment like hotel room.

We saw seahorses, needle fish, angel fish, jacks, snapper and other fish right on the dock which is a great swimming area. The water is so clear one does not even need a snorkel mask.

We flew over from Belize City on Tropic Air ($150 U.S. for two of us) and returned via water tax ($30 U.S. for two). Then we went the the Maruba Resort and Spa in the jungle for 4 days.

Bring your own Budweiser because they only have Belikin Beer which we purchased from the distributor on the way into town, which is one-half of what you would pay in the store.

If you have any questions during your stay ask Ben and Mate (the maintenance men) and they will tell you everything you need or want to know about Ambergris Caye!

Thank you Staff at Exotic Caye for a wonderful experience!

It takes a pretty magical place to calm me down, as vacations are usually planned with non-stop activities. Not here. I found myself looking forward to spending time on the porch or under one of the beach thatch covers, hypnotized by the sea view, breeze, and the great beach at Exotic Caye. Having light conversations with caretakers, Ben and Maitlund, became the highlight of my day. There were plenty of activities, but none were more enjoyable than the relaxation. It's old, but the staff made it one of the most enjoyable places we have ever stayed. The restaurant was very good, wireless internet and tv worked well, and it is easy to get into town. Our group of travelers is already planning a return trip.

When you open your apt. door and step off your private porch you are on the beach, which is much nicer here than in town. It's about a 10-15 minute walk into San Pedro. The apts have a full kitchen and small sitting area and you get wifi and great U.S. tv. The apts are very basic and old but clean and the whole place has a laid back old time charm to it. The staff is great and give very personal service. The pool is a small plunge pool and as elsewhere on Ambergris you can't swim off the beach because of the sea grass. There is a good restaurant on the premises and there's a well stocked supermarket nearby.

If for no other reason, staying here will afford you the opportunity to meet Paul and Kelly, perhaps two of the friendliest hotel managers I've ever encountered.

Although the rooms are old, they are well appointed for your comfort. I was told that a re-construction is coming soon, and that will be great.

The location on the island is very nice, as it is within walking distance of much of what you'll want to do.

On the property, they had a bar and a restaurant, both of which were fun and comfortable, and the food was pretty good.

Additionally, Exotic Caye has a great beach location, and you'll enjoy sunrise here as much as anywhere.

We spent a week at this resort. The service was incredible. They are within 15min walking distance from down town San Pedro by road or beach and even closer if you have a golf cart or bike (the main form of transportation). They're stretch of beach is far nicer than those closer to down town- they don't have a boardwalk and the sand actually piles up here while it is washed away from other resort fronts. There is a small plunge pool and daily yoga as well as a cafe, a grill and a bar on site. There is also a gym and large outdoor pool you can use for free 1 block away. The rooms come with a kitchenette and there is a small grocery across the street. The rooms are simple but clean. These 30 year old thatch roofed buildings have a real charm and are a welcome break from many of the other pretentious establishments.

Room Tip: Stay away from building 6 which is across the street from a bar with karaoke on Wed nights- everywhe...

This was a great place to stay- very roomy and spacious. Decor could have used some upgrading but you don't spend much time inside anyways. The view is great, and the food at the Blue Iguana was AMAZING!!! You will want a golf cart to get around town, but you can walk as well if you don't. The owners were very nice and their cat Jane would come and hangout with us- real sweetheart.

San Pedro is the largest town on Ambegris Caye so it's a bit hard to figure out which hotel is going to be great for you. Exotic Caye, when you enter the property you are simply amazed that they scored the best beach in this part of town!

Kelly and Paul, the general managers, are so fun to be around and I would say they will make the experience of staying here that much better!

We also ate at the yummy Blue Iguana Grille - my husband is still talking about the best meal he had during our 2 weeks of travel! So that says a lot. Plus, we travel with 2 kids, one is super super picky eater, and they managed to make him exactly what he wanted (not from the menu) and appease both of my kids, which to me is a deal breaker in itself.
