“can't wait to return”
Reviewed November 4, 2012

getting to belizean shores is a little adventure in itself from the cramped paper airplane ride from belize city to the 10 minute water taxi then a cold rum punch into your weary hand and all is well. cannot say enough about the staf and how friendly everyone is. on site diveing is a plus and tuff e nuff does'nt dissapoint. food and drinks were great at the pool bar and restaurant. all served very timely for island standards. room was very clean and comfortable. rent a bike for the day from the office and cruise down the beach for some island sightseeing. they warn about going to the reef with the kayaks and you should take heed. tried to kayak surf the break and didnt make out that well lol. pool is great except hot tub was a little hot. great resort and will definately return.

This is a very clean resort, drinks are pretty expensive compared to town. Make sure you bring bug spray for the night time. The rooms were great kind of like a condo instead of a room. If you want to go into town a lot I would recommend a hotel closer. Its about a 30 minute bike ride or 20 minute golf cart ride. The food at the resort is pretty good but I definitely recommend going to town for food and drinks. If you want to do excursions just walk down the beach and find a guide for snorkeling or fishing it was a lot cheaper. As far a places to eat Waraguma's in town was the best and cheapest food of the trip. Ak Bol was halfway from the resort to town and had great breakfast menu and lunch and was very affordable. I like quiet and this was definitely the best place for me to stay, I would go back

We were greeted at the dock with cool rum punch drinks and a smiling staff. The room assignments for our party were goofed up and so there was some reshuffling and confusion to get started. There were twelve in our party spead out in five rooms. The staff did not come to the room for over an hour to complete registation and then only when called by us. We were supposed to have a gallon of water in the refigerator that is to be refilled at a central set of spigots that are fed from a reverse osmosis unit. The jug of water was missing and we had to call for it.

The room was very nice. It was clean and the air conditioning worked splendidly. The kitchen was well equipped. Housekeeping was consistently good and detailed. The coffee maker spilled coffee (which we had to provide) until I worked on the strainer basket and got it working. The spring in the shut off valve was too strong so I modified it to allow the basket to empty (I think the real issue was a replacement decanter that was not exactly the correct height).

The pool is of a beautiful layout and is well kept. It is not really a kid friendly pool as it has a lot of steps, a hot tub in the middle, and a deep step off near the swim up bar. No problem for us as we were all adults. There was an ample number lounge chairs. My down arrow here is that there is no music or entertainment. The bartender has a small IPod player that is discernable in the bar area but that is all. There is a volleyball court layed out in the pool, but no net or poles are available. The bar tender reported that the net and poles have not been seen in a very long while.

The beach front is beautiful and is kept clean. Seaweed collects every night and is cleaned up early each morning. However, there is no defined swimming area along the beach and the grassy bottom discourages wading in. I was disppointed at how much trash in general is in the ocean along Ambergris Caye, so you can expect to encounter lots of small plastic along the shoreline and in the shallows.

The drinks at the bar are tasty but are very expensive. Happy hour was two drinks from a select list for $12 US. You could instead get a double but it really wasn't a double pour. Our first bar bill on the evening we arrived was $46 US. We had only a few drinks each, so we ended up buying beer and liquor in San Pedro and making our own to drinks around the pool. I recommend taking a Tervis cup or the like to take advantage of the blender in your room.

The on-site restaurrant was average. The prices are in line with all of the food on Ambergris Caye; expensive. We also bought food in town and seafood at the dock. We made breakfast, most lunches and a few dinners over the week. Shop the local roadside vegetable vendors for fresh stuff and beans and rice at a locals price. There was a BBQ on Thursday night with live music. We found out about it when we saw it being set up. Unfortunately, we had already made plans to eat in town. The restaurant does not a very good job communicating their menu or specials.

The hotel is 3.5 miles from town. Water taxis are available but have a set schedule. The cost is $6 one way. We rented three golf carts for the week for $150 US each to give us mobility. I use mobility lightly as the road from San Pedro is full of potholes and deep mud holes after each rain, which occurs frequently in this part of the world. It takes about 30 minutes to make the 3.5 mile trip. Also, there is bridge over the inlet that costs $5 US for a round trip crossing. Mosquitos are abundant so take your insect repellant.

We spent the past several days at this hotel property. As it turns out, these buildings are actually condos owned by individuals and put into a rental pool with a property management company who run the whole property. Levi greeted us when we arrived at the dock with a non alcoholic citrus punch, and Levi was great to work with the whole time we were there. We asked about where to eat in the city and Rhoda recommended Algafon (not sure of spelling...near airport in town). The food is EXCELLENT..definitely go there. The fresh fish is so very good as is all of their dishes.

We stayed in an upper floor (two levels in all units) and it was well worth the small difference per night. We were in 2B and the accommodations were spectacular and view was great. We loved sitting on this large covered deck. The pool is fantastic and laid out very nice.

An important part of our decision to stay here was due to a person named Norma who answers the phones for both properties when you call the Belize number. Unlike most other properties I called and no one answers or you get someone in the US, Norma was great to talk with, answered all my questions, and it was her friendliness that influenced our decision to stay at Belizean Shores.

Everyone that worked there was very accommodating. The restaurant is on the third floor of the check in building and the views of the ocean and lagoon are nice. The food service was very slow...dinner took nearly an hour and there were only a few people in the restaurant. The food service (time to get food) needs improvement. The food flavor and taste was good. The cost for dinner was about the same as going to town and eating except going to town on a water taxi is $12 round trip per person. It is less expensive to eat in town but more expensive when you add the water taxi cost.

The property is located a few miles north of town. The best way to and from town is a water taxi...unfortunately, the water taxi's only run every hour and fifteen minutes. You can take a golf cart from the property but only during daylight (not recommended when dark) as the road is dirt and in rough shape. In fact, some areas, you can easily get stuck, and you're in the middle of nowhere. We took the golf cart for the day and it's pricey to rent from Belizean Shores....like $15 per hour or $75US per day and not a pleasant ride. I recommend instead taking a water taxi to town, rent a golf cart to get around, then water taxi back.

Kayaks are free to guests and they are fun to use and kayak out to the reef. It's a fun experience and you can either just go for the ride and exercise, or snorkel or scuba dive. The only free things are kayaks and tennis courts...everything else you rent. We rented bikes and rode along the ocean...this is worth doing and inexpensive. The bikes are cruisers with only one gear. Be prepared for unimproved areas where you experience very foul smells.

If you are looking for a laid-back nice place to stay, with pleasant people, and nice accommodations, you'll love Belizean Shores. Their is a sister property next door...Coco Beach Resort and the accommodations there, are nicer and rooms are even more upscale.

Overall, I highly recommend the accommodations at either Belizean Shores or Coco Beach. The people are friendly, accommodating, and great place to stay if you want a quiet and tranquil place to stay. WE would stay there again in a heart beat. We did like San Pedro town and we will also look at staying at a resort closer to town..within a mile of town..walking distance so water taxis wouldn't be necessary and far more dining options in town, especially the south end of town.

Room Tip: we stayed in 2b...beautiful. recommend upper level villa...

res came through in big style. We have been going to Belize for many years and Belizean Shores is our all time favorite! While you can find fancier resorts on the Island, they also come with a fancy price. Belizean Shores has recently been remodeled and is a very nice resort and a very affordable price. We got an entire condo with kitchen and a loft for the kids at the price of a room at some of the other resorts. It has tremendous amount of amenities including tennis, basketball, children’s play ground, volleyball, pool bar, onsite restaurant and an onsite activities center that is not offered at any of the other resorts at any price. Super friendly staff and is very laid back compared to some of the stuffy high end facilities. It is far enough out of town to enjoy the quiet, yet close enough it is not a burden to get to town.

Once again, I have visited Belizean Shores on Ambergis Caye for a week of fun and relaxing. From the time I arrived there (greeted by Marianne), and the friendly faces in the office (Rhoda)everything from the room to the accomidations were perfect.
This Resort has it all--with Tuff N' nuff on the pier for any trips I may take to the complete relaxsation the Resort offers, and the best pool and pool bar on the island.
The perfect location , and $100 or more savings per night from the other Resorts close by.

Room Tip: All the rooms are the same. Everyone has an excellent view.

What a nice surprise having Mariane waiting for our arrival with the cold Rum Punch in an extremely hot day..
Our arrival was perfect.
We were 2 couples sharing an ocean view room (1D). What a wonderful view.. Coconuts trees and the blue ocean..

We dove for five days every morning with the Tuff e Nuff. AC was the dive master, James and Bird where very friendly and helpful.
Dive sites where great! We loved petting nurse sharks..

Only one complain in all our stay.. The folks at Tuff e Nuff were not ponctual.. Once we had to wait 30 minutes for a couple that were late.. I really get upset with that.. But after jumping in the warm water I complete forgot about..

Congrats to Mariane and her staff for their kindness. That makes a big difference.

We suggest a bike ride to town via the beach.. Its great. When there have a lunch at Licks.

We will return..
