Belizean Shores Resort
Ranked #16 of 54 Hotels in San Pedro

Reviewed April 12, 2012

We stayed at the Belizean Shores in early April (during our Spring Break), and we were surprised how quiet the resort was. We didn't have to fight for pool chairs, and the place generally speaking felt very quiet. Not sure if it was the particular week we went (week before Easter, which I imagine is the Spring Break for many schools), but it felt quiet and a bit isolated.

There were only a couple of restaurants within walking distance (we really liked Capricorn's stuffed grouper (the house specialty)). Otherwise, you'd likely need to take a water taxi or golf court to San Pedro to eat.

So if peace and quiet is the atmosphere you're looking for, then this may be the place for you. We really enjoyed the pool, swim up pool bar, and the air conditioned rooms. Our room was an "upper level" room, so if you have kids staying with you, I would recommend an upper level room since there's a loft on top where the kids could sleep (they liked having their own space up there).

The water taxi into San Pedro was $10/pp round trip (or $25/pp for unlimited trips for 5 days), which discouraged us from going there too much. Instead, we rented a golf cart, which for a family of 4, is comparable to the water taxi (for a 2-4 hour rental) but gave us a bit more flexibility. The kids (ages 12 and 10) also enjoyed driving the cart.

Overall, had a wonderful stay there, and would recommend it for those seeking quiet isolation. For those families looking for some excitement and wide choice of restaurants, I would recommend choosing a resort closer to town.

We were at the Belizian Shores for three nights last week with our children, 13 and 9. It was a delightful spot overall- clean, comfortable, great value for the money, quite and nice large pool, good food, a cheerful staff, and very nice guests. Marianne the General Manager in particular went well out of her way to welcome us and to arrange a special early morning departure. We stayed at 4 hotels during our trip and the Belizian Shores was our favorite. Our kids enjoyed the company of other children who were guests and my husband and I had time to ourselves as well. The service is slower than in the USA but that is part of the charm of Belize as a country. We also enjoyed walking down the beach in both directions to other nice restaurants at night with flashlights in our hand. The hotel also offers boat taxi's to/from the hotel. We happen to take a cab because our water taxi had problems...and the 15 minute cab ride was quite dusty and bumpy which had us wondering if we had made the right decision but from the moment we arrived, things were perfect. We liked being ten minutes north of San Pedro as the town is quite congested with little space. This hotel location was ideal. Overall, we enjoyed our stay immensely, and if we were to return to Belize, this would be included in our plans.

Belizean Shores was definitely a beautiful place to stay...grounds are stunning / pool is fun.....and it's a fairly good location and a fair price. The beach is definitely not beautiful in front of it....lots of sea grass and murky. There are resort / locations with pretty water though....I think they are closer to San Pedro. Belizean Shores is about 3 1/2 miles north of the town. They have good amenities on site....kayaks use complimentary/bikes and golf cart charge rental for. They will arrange for your transport from the boat docks, and the people are very nice. I thought the food was overpriced and decent but not great.

Our flight from the States was delayed so we were late getting to the Shores. We were met with warm hospitality and a "no worries" policy from the staff. After the stress of the flight, it was nice to have someone to hand you a rum drink and tell you to relax. Stepping out of your casita and “into island time" going for a walk down the beach or to the pool was a great way to spend an afternoon; not to mention the view from the pool which was amazing! The pool bartenders really went out of their way to be accommodating, friendly and funny. They became our new BFFs within a few hours. In the mornings, someone would sell delicious eats and on Tuesday the vegetable boat would come. Our biggest fear was the food and we found it was not a problem as long as you were flexible. One challenge was getting a golf cart and the staff went to bat for us and got us one within a short period of time. It was so humble to see all the staff doing anything and everything within their power to make my holiday a fabulous experience. By the end of the trip, we were swapping music on our MP3 players with the bartenders, getting hair tips from the housekeepers, and making lifelong friends with the other guests. The day we left so many people, staff and guests alike, stopped by to wish us happy travels. I was touched by the generous people we met during our week. It was like leaving family and a home when we boarded the boat back to the city. Now it’s not a matter of going back but a matter of when. 8 Charlie will return!!!

The accommodation is great -- condo is well appointed and comfy, pool and grounds are nice. The service and staff are good too. The water well is great for self serve drinking water.

However, be aware that a water taxi ride is the only way to get to town, and they leave about every 2hours. There are a few restaurants in the neighbourhood of the resort, but eating in town or occasionally cooking your own will definitely save $$. So you should BRING food or have it delivered by the grocery service. There is a convenience store at the neighbouring resort with a limited amount of food. There are also grocery stores in town but you have to hike the food back on the water taxi. Also, in all the stores, prices are on some of the foods but not all. Worth asking on some items but gets tiresome.

In all, a quiet secluded resort for people who want a base for doing tours from. I would not recommend for small kids as there is no real beach

Also if you are doing jungle or ziplone tours you have to go back to the mainland anyway.

This place started off on the right foot by not only providing directions and schedules to/from the Belize City ferry service but also by picking us up at the ferry dock and bringing us directly to our villa.

We had an ocean view and were only steps away from the pool with its swim-up bar. We had daily access to kayaks and snorkel gear and could spend endless hours snorkeling the barrier reef.

The resort had "golf carts" available for rent for the days we wanted to do shopping in San Pedro Town. We could also use their water taxi service, but the golf cart meant we didn't have to carry our shopping bags either.

The security was great; Nacho took the time to get personally acquainted with us and pointed out items of interest for us. He also helped us arrange tours and diving.

Prices were very reasonable, especially the in-house restaurant. I didn't want to leave; in fact, as we were sitting in the airport, I told my companion I wanted to go back and just forget about going home for at least another week.
