“Has to be one of the "Best Values" of San Pedro!”
Reviewed October 1, 2012

When you are in the tropics, looking at the beautiful Caribbean, and relaxing at water's edge with a rum punch, how can you be overly concerned about your lodgings? We just completed a wonderful 7 night stay in a very affordable and comfortable accommodation. Although not a sparkling new facility, it more than satisfied this pair of seasoned travelers. Our 1 bedroom ocean front suite with kitchenette was very reasonably priced, had a comfortable bed, lots of room, ice-cold air conditioning, decent bathroom facilities, and access right to the beach. What more could anyone want?

The Banana Beach staff was absolutely great. Period. From fixing the remote on the TV, to bringing in an extra pillow, everything they did was with a smile, and they made us feel special. This is not all that common in the states, but in San Pedro, we found this to be the standard, regardless of where we were or what we were doing. A friend stayed here at B.B. about 2 years ago, and had exactly the same experience. And we both love the place. It's about 1.5 miles from downtown San Pedro, so rent a golf cart or get a cab or stretch your legs if you want. Did I mention that it's quiet here?

We had a great time, you will too.

Room Tip: Be sure to get a ocean-side room.

5 nights at Banana Beach averaged around $75 per night for a back room. Room was adequate, small refrigerator small balconey. Good value for the price. Rest of my group stayed at the Victoria House that averaged $250/night that was much more luxurious. Get what you pay for. Staff at Banana Beach was excellent. Restaruant was fine with good chaveche.

I would probably pay a little more and get a nicer place next time. But I thought Banana Beach was a good value for the money. No major complaints.

I just stayed at the Banana Beach Resort for the 4th time. The value is great. The hotel is a bit tired and needs a renovation (but then prices would go up). The staff is helpful and you can book side trips or divng while there. A great resturant is connected witht he hotel and they have a nice beach area with a bar. They have two pool and there is a couple of grocery stores a few minutes away.

Room Tip: Stay in the area by the smaller pool. It is less noisy but then it is a two minute walk to the beach...

Nice place just south of San Pedro. Stayed 6 nights. Very comfortable. . The service is great. Everyone of the staff was friendly and helpful. The restaurant El Divino is one of the best on the island.

Located about a 15 minute walk into town, this resort is right on the water, but not in a swim-able location. If you'd like to jump in the water, you must walk along the beach to the hotel over where there's a pier for you to jump off. Remain cautious though, the distance between the pier and the water is about 10-12 feet high and in order to get back up on the pier, there's a really unstable rope ladder on the side. The resort itself is dated, but still nice. The rooms and common areas are clean and we still had a great time in Ambergris Caye. A cab ride into town will cost about $5 each way, which isn't bad. We walked some nights and took a cab on other nights. Seafood is delicious!! Please don't miss out on this. The hotel has a small bar in the restaurant which reminds me of an old nautical bar in a pirate movie filled with dark wood and drink bottles packing the bar. Staff was friendly and accommodating.

After a dusty bumpy ride from the airport over (mostly) cobblestone streets, our taxi pulled into an archway in a bright yellow wall overhung with flowering trees and bananas. The courtyard within was shaded and cool with a fountain spashing in the center. Geckos and iguana skittered about as we exited the cab and walked into the lobby.

I had read that this was an older hotel and you could see the signs here and there as I looked around. But check-in was smooth and quick, and before you know it we are walking up to our room. (Our bags had almost magically been transported to the room ahead of us.)

My first look at the room left me wanting. It was indeed an older place. But we didn't plan on spending a lot of time in the room anyway. And as things worked out, after an AC failure we got moved to an ocean front room for the second half of the trip!

I can't say enough how friendly and helpful the staff of the hotel and restaurant were. Anything we needed was attended to quickly. Including having an on-call doctor to stop by and look at my wife's ear then writing her a script for antibiotics and ear drops. Which, by the way, were delivered to the hotel by the pharmacy!

We highly reccommend Banana Beach and we will be going back!

Room Tip: Spend a little more for the rooms with a kitchenette. Much more spacious and the bigger fridge is n...

I read just about all the previous postings so I felt prepared for this place when I booked my reservations. My overall expierence was very positive. The staff was great, especially Ingrid. The location was removed far enough from town to be quiet at night. No surprise on the lack of a "real" beach. Seagrass everywhere and yes there is a seawall right in front of the hotel. A few short steps to the left or right takes you to the water. The pools are small but refreshing. The beds could use replacing but were comfortable enough. The room was clean. Restaurant is fantastic.

I was surprised by the cost of food and drink. Not the expected Latin American rates. I did not care much for the beer and lack of diversity in beers. It seems that Belikin is the only game in town (yes, there is Hienekin and Red Stripe). Found a nice Lebanese restaurant on the second street from the waterfront. For a fun day try La Palapa.

Snorkling with Lil' Alphonse was great. He gave a very detailed safety brief prior to letting us into the water. He really seemed to for the sea creatures. Don't miss this!

Overall a very nice vacation.
