Banana Beach Resort
Ranked #37 of 54 Hotels in San Pedro
Reviewed April 7, 2011

The staff at the Banana Beach is courteous and very helpful. The accomodations are average. Think Holiday Inn in the 80s. They have not been updated. The first rooms we had smelled like mildew. The second rooms still were OK. They were clean. We had two rooms for the stay and both showers had a very gentle mist barely rinsed our hair and by the time the water was at shoulder level, it barely rinsed off. We used water bottles with sport tops. The rooms were quiet but the beds were lumpy. The beach front has an area of sand but there is a sea wall so you can't walk out to the water from the BB beach. We went down to other resorts to go in the water. Breakfast is included. The food was good and the service was very good. To get into town, it is a 25 min. beautiful walk on the beach or you can rent a golf cart for $75 a day. We chose to walk in and take a taxi back for only $US5.00. Internet service is spotty and only available in their small business area/gift shop. We had to go down to another resort to get better internet service. We took snorkling and snuba tours through Discovery Expedition and they did an amazing job. They did our tours on San Pedro and in the Cayo District and they are marvelous!

We stayed in Ambergris Caye but not at Banana Beach for all our stay. We stayed up north but then head down in town and stayed a Banana Beach. The service I must say was exceptional and even better than the previous place we stay up north which was more expensive. We ended up at Banana Beach because we wanted to go on a zipline and cavetubing tour with a Belize Jungle Trek. We weren't too sure if they pick up on the north side so we stay in town. We were so happy we did because the staff were great, the food was outstanding and the ambiance was by far what we expected. We got recommendations from Jovan at Belize Jungle Trek. Banana Beach is the way to go if you are a budget traveler with family and want to really experience Belize. The only down side was that they didn't offer much tours and the companies they uses are the ones who go by boat to the mainland. So we had to book tours independently though Belize Jungle Trek. Nice place great staff and excellent restaurant. Try them out! Go ahead.

Thats one of the many things that I loved about staying at the Banana Beach Resort. Add that to the clean rooms, great staff and service and you have my stay at this hotel.

I travelled to Belize from Canada for the first time in early March with three friends to enjoy a vacation with a nice balance of adventure and relaxation. The rooms were clean and provided what we needed for the week. The staff was friendly and helpful ensuring that we always felt like we could ask them for anything.

The hotel provides two pools along with a beach area to enjoy the sun and the Caribbean Sea. This hotel also has the Monkey Business Tour Shoppe which assisted us with all our travels outside the hotel from an adventure to the Mayan Ruins and snorkelling to arranging our flight back to the mainland when we were leaving and renting a golf cart to tour around one day. We did not have to make any arrangements elsewhere - they took care of it all.

El Divino Restaurant provided a great start to our day with our complimentary breakfasts. It was really nice not having to venture away for breakfast to start our day. We enjoyed a few supper meals at this restaurant as well which were really good. There were also amazing restaurants in San Pedro which we were sure to check out each evening as well. The locals that we met through the week spoke very highly of El Divino - and to me that is what really says it all !

Finally - the location of the Banana Beach Resort was excellent - wasn't too far away from the action - in fact, being on the outskirts of San Pedro you can walk into town, take a golf cart or taxi and in minutes you are in the downtown core of this busy little town yet back at the hotel still feel like your away from it all !

I stayed at Banana Beach at the beginning of March with my fiance who is Belizean and his parents who live in Belize City. This was the perfect choice....the staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The location was perfect in terms of getting out and exploring. The beach in front of the hotel was pristine and relaxing. The hotel was quiet and very relaxing. Also, the restaurant El Divino is the BEST, we had breakfast included and always got the Belizean which was good and that is coming from Belizeans. We also had dinner at El Divino and it was equally as good. This will be our future home away from home when in San Pedro. We loved the hotel so much we are making reservations for New Years and Crystal has been extremely helpful in helping us making those reservations. Who knows this may be our wedding spot!!!!!

The staff were friendly and the breakfasts were fine. We did not eat lunch or dinner at the hotel because there are so many interesting places to eat on the island. Overall, the grounds were clean, but getting old and a little dingy. If you are use to a real beach, you will be disappointed in the small beach here. You also cannot swim in the ocean because of a sea wall. Our beds were not very comfortable, and do not plan to have anyone sleep on the sofa sleeper. It just isn't possible.

We stayed at the Banana Beach from the end of Feb - beginning of March. It was the best 10 days of our lives and a lot of that was due to the resort. The room was beautiful, clean and very spacious. It had everything you could want. The view from the balcony was magnificent. I spent every spare moment taking in the scenery, even made a friend. A little bird came and visited us daily. The pools and beach were very clean. The staff was wonderful. I had searched extensively for the perfect place to stay. When compared to other 1 bedroom suites, including breakfast and an ocean view, Banana Beach has the best value. We are planning our next trip to San Pedro, and it will be with the Banana Beach Resort.

I have been traveling to BZ for over 13 years, sometimes just to the mainland, sometimes just to AC, abd sometimes spending time split between. In total accumulating somewhere around 50 trips. For the past 10+ years, BB has become my home away from home. There is something really comforting is arriving back on island and having friendly faces greet you. Names remembered, yotru favorite room ready, frig stocked with cold beer, water & soda, the waiters (ever so friendly) brinigng you yoru coffee and favorite juice mixture withoiut even being asked and having them select a surprise breakfast for you - knowing you cannot go wrong.

From the front desk staff, to the housemaids, laundry staff, maintenance dudes, bartenders, waiters, travel desk crew, security guards, all the way up to Jimmy & Crystal - everyone does their best to make you feel welcome and part of the Bunch. And, if you simply want quiert and/or solitude, no problem. That can happen too. Do notconsider this comment to meanthey "fawn" over you, but are just genuine friendlty and will aid you, if needed or wanted.

The most recent trip, my sis & hubby accompanied me for part of the trip. Not on the island 24 hours, she said I love this place ( meaning BB as well as the island) and said I AM COMING BACK HERE!!!

Exxcellent value, clean rooms, great food/drink, warm staff...........what more could one want? Oh wait............another trip!!
