Corona del Mar Hotel & Apartments
Ranked #4 of 21 San Pedro B&B and Inns

Okay, maybe this place isn't the four seasons... Get over it! You're on a small secluded island off the coast of a third world country... I loved the Corona Del Mar, the staff was FANTASTIC. I meant they really make your stay. Continental lost my luggage on my way to San Pedro and the staff would call continental every couple of hours in order to make sure what time and what day the luggage would be arriving... Not to mention that the free rum punch is amazing! And be sure to play a round of horseshoes with Frank.... AND if you get the chance, you should ask for Ernesto and Oliver, they own the blue boat on Woody's Wharf that's named the "Cari'bean"... They do AMAZING charters to Shell Island where you can fish and catch lobster and conch and cook it FRESH in a pit on the island.. by far the best part of the trip! I would highly recommend this hotel for a laid back, relaxed and beautiful holiday... and I would definitely stay here again!

I cannot understand how this hotel has gotten such a high rating here. I booked it based upon glowing recommendations from previous Trip Advisor users and was shocked upon check-in. Where to begin? The hotel lobby looks as if pack-rats are in residence; the elevator was out of service; the room that had been recommended to us, the "penthouse", apparently gets its name only from the fact it's on the top floor (otherwise it looks just like any other small, tacky hotel room); although we had requested two beds and were expecting a rollaway bed, no such thing had materialized by the time we checked in at 6pm. The desk personnel were nice enough, I will say that; they offered to move us to the 2nd floor apartment for no extra charge, which had two beds. This unit resembled the inside of a 1970s run-down mobile home complete with rust on the fridge, mold on the ceilings, stains on the walls, mismatched furniture (a corner sectional couch consisted of two right-sided pieces), unidentifiable kitchen plumbing, dusty plastic plants, windows that were boarded over, and bugs -- I was eaten alive by bugs that apparently lived in the sofa. I will say the A/C was ice-cold. That's about the only good thing I can say. And of course, having prepaid for two nights, we were forced to stay there or lose our money -- they would not refund the second night's deposit. Sooo.....beware the Corona Del Mar unless you are Earl or Randy Hickey.

Corona del mar is a great place to stay. The staff are very accomodating and friendly. They assist with booking trips and letting you know where the good eats are located. The rum punch is delicious and flows all day long! monkey bites cafe is an excellent place for breakfast and lunch.

Three of us girls stayed at Corona Del Mar of 9 nights and were not disappointed! The hotel was close to San Pedro (10 min walk), and had its own dock for sun tanning and swimming. There is no pool, however the hotel has a deal in place with a resort two doors down the beach to use theirs. Breakfast was included every morning, and rum punch flowed freely all day. The rooms were clean and well maintained daily, and the air conditioning worked very well. We had a beach front room which was nice for the view and the breeze! You get great value for the price you pay to stay here.

The lounge area closes at 7pm, and you cannot eat dinner at the hotel, however there are tonnes of local spots near by. Elvi's, Caramba, and a tiny tortilla restaurant were our favourites. You also have to check out Dande's ice cream (frozen custard...SO GOOD!). It's right beside Caramba on the middle street of town.

Strongly recommend that you book the manatee snorkel tour with Oliver and Ernesto. Just ask the hotel because they use the hotel's dock (Woody's Worf) as a base. Oliver and Ernesto were amazing and really made our trip. They know all the secret spots and are very reasonably priced.

We stayed at Corona del Mar on our honeymoon and we were really pleased. The room was large, clean, comfortable, and quiet. We had a beach view, which was beautiful. The ac worked great, which was nice since the island was so hot. The complimentary breakfast and rum punch were nice touches too.
And the staff were really helpful booking activities and answering questions.
Our only complaint was the distance to town. It was about a 20 minute walk to the center of town, which got long since we went to town 2-3 times a day.
Overall, we had a great stay and would return.

Corona Del Mar was a perfect location on the island: about a 10 minute walk from the town, so far enough away from the dust to be peaceful, but close enough to walk to food and internet, etc.

The room was clean and the hotel staff was friendly. I'd recommend the snorkeling w/the sharks/stingrays trip...pretty wild! The beach front was nice...there's a lot of chairs and hammocks and the dock had more of the same. The dock was a nice place to read and then you could swim in the sea (in the sectioned off area by the dock). We also ventured further down the beach to Ramon's, for more of a beach-like atmosphere (more chairs and could walk straight into the water w/out a lot of seaweed).

The only negative of the hotel was that we had booked expecting a good breakfast, but the breakfast was actually quite limited (some breads, not very good fruits, and raisin bran), so we had to get breakfast at George's twice (Across the street and good). Other restaurant recs include: Monkey Bites, Blue Water Grill, Mango's, and Elvi's Kitchen.

When we arrived at hotel, were upgraded from regular room to the prince william suite! wow, what a view from the veranda!!! Ice cold AC in the bedroom. This hotel is nice and quiet- despite being next to th ecoconuts bar, never were disturbed by noise, even on the weekend. Didn't find the barge to be a problem at all either. Nice as this place is, however, the staff is what REALLY makes this place!!!! They are wonderful, and had a blast with a beach bbq (after our fishing trip), and playing horseshoes. This hotel may be not be as posh as some, but it is immaculately clean, safe, quiet and comfortable. You just can't beat it for the price! As a bonus, what I feel is the best restaurant bargain in town is 2 doors away- Monkey Bites Cafe. The new (about a year ago) owners add a gourmet touch to the menu (ie the one barrel rum bbq chicken sandwich with carmelized onions). The food is high-quality and delicious (ate there 3 lunches, and a breakfast), and VERY reasonable (sandwich is $6). Between the cafe and hotel, you have it made!
