My wife and i traveled to belize recently for the first time, staying at Ramons Village resort, on the island of Ambergris Caye. We stayed in the thatched roof preseidentual sweet located right on the beach front, it was amazing staying in a room that was LITERALY 40 ft from our hemispheres largest barrier reef. our room was very nicley apointed and we found the staff very friendly and helpful, the reservations department at Ramons had booked us several amazing excursions , We snorkeled at Shark Ray Alley , took a river boat on the mainland to the mayan ruins of lamanai, were we watched the sunset over the jungle canopy from atop a ancient mayan ruin. the trip the staff at ramons helped us book was fantastic, we ate food at the resturant at ramons and it was amazing. if you are looking for a unique travel experiance look no further than ramnons ....... stephen.

Room Tip: ask for Dedre when you call...!

Ramon's offers a terrific location at reasonable prices. The rooms are 3-4 star quality, but the proximity to the beach and the amenities they offer makes up for it, because who stays much in the room anyway? We are in our late 50's and have traveled pretty extensively, and Ramon's is a good choice on Ambergris. Restaurant is decent, but like most resorts, nothing spectacular and the bar is very pricey. Good location for the island and the dive/snorkel/water activities were top notch. Not going to be overwhelmed like at a 5 star luxury resort, but for the price a solid choice in a great location.

Room Tip: small balconies make beach view rooms unnecessary

We did not stay here, but did a dive with these guys and often ate at their very nice restaurant.

We did 1 dive with these guys and also ate often at the restaurant. The food was better in price and quality than any other places that we tried. Wild Mango was perhaps second best. The dive master (Palma) did a great job helping us on our first deep dive. The people behind the desk at the shop were not the friendliest so we decided to try other shops for future dives. Ramons also has a pier with really fun snorkeling.

Overall, Ramon's is a very nice hotel with a real tropical feel. Its located just outside the town so its very easy to walk to restaurants and shops, but it still has a very isolated feel due the jungle landscaping which is very well done. Other resorts to the north and south will generally require a golf cart to get into town (which is fine since this is the main mode of transportation on the island and they're fun to drive).

We had a beachfront hut which I think is worth the extra $$ for the views. The room was small, not the most comfortable bed, and to me the worst of all, no TV. Since there is virtually no night life on the island (after 9PM), it would have been really nice to relax with a TV before bed or to have something to watch while getting ready to go out. There is a bar TV but it generally is tuned to a sports channel and you really can't hear it. I emphasize this fact as Ramon's website does not tell you there are no TVs and it was something I expected from a normal hotel.

The wireless internet was 6US per day and was spotty - almost never working in our room. You had to go out to the pool area to get reception. Maybe rooms closer to the center did better.

The staff was extremely attentive. The restaurant was generally very good except for once when they refused to let me order from the lunch menu for dinner (?) Plenty of activities supported by hotel - usually same price as you could get in town but with the the added convenience of leaving from Ramon's dock.

Ramon's has a few guards stationed all the time so safety is really good there as well as keeping out stray visitors. Pool was very uniquely decorated but small - usually only kids were swimming. I don't think typical American kids would enjoy this hotel (or Ambergris Caye for that matter).

Nothing to do with hotel, but they really mean it when they say there aren't good beaches at Ambergris Caye - there a small stretch of sand but for swimming, the bottom is covered with sea grass so aqua shoes are a must. I do believe though that Ramon's has one of the better beach areas that I saw.

Room Tip: If you have the money, get the beachfront rooms.

We traveled to Ramon's at the end of March with a large scuba diving group. The not atypical spring weather made the seas rough, and on the days that we did not wish to dive, we toured the quaint island by golf cart. The locals were friendly and welcoming. On the days that we did dive with Ramon's, we found the divemasters to be knowledgeable and competent. The diving, especially when we traveled to Turneffe, was wonderful. The food at Ramon's was great, and the staff was jovial and genuinely glad that we were there. We would choose Ramon's again and would recommend it to anyone who wishes to have a tropical vacation. Ramon's even credited us for the days that we did not dive although that was not part of our prepaid agreement!

Room Tip: Ask for Beachfront. More $, but worth it!

We went to Belize for out Honeymoon and stayed at Ramon's Village! My husband wanted to surprise me, so I didn't know where we were going until we were in Atlanta for our last leg of the trip!

SO excited to find out that we were going to Belize!!! I knew he always wanted to stay in a tiki hut on the ocean - and Ambergris Caye is a GREAT alternative to Bora Bora - MUCH less expensive! When we flew in - on Tropics Air - the airport staff called Ramon's to make sure they picked us up! Easy check in and they delivered our bags to the room!

We were in Hut #1 - the Honeymoon Hut! The staff was wonderful - helping out in any way possible. Everytime we said we were in Hut #1 we got "Oooohhh, honeymooners!" It made the trip even better! Funny part is, we got married 1/1/11 and stayed in hut #! Since we were in the Honeymoon hut, it was a bit larger than the other rooms (and more $). We were nice and close to the beach and the lighting was great - we saw the sun rise each morning! Our room was cleaned every day and we were quite delighted with the stay. The one con: the water pressure and temperature when showering fluctuated a bit! Before we left, my husband read that the thatched roofs were noisy at night, but we did not find that to be an issue.

I do agree with previous comments - NO TV in the ROOMS - downer since we were there during football playoffs! BUT is did force us down to the bar - which was a great way to meet other couples & people!

Maurice at the hotel "watering hole" was fabulous! All the staff was great. There was a security gentleman watching the beach at all times - very safe location. The servers were also great. We did not do the meal plan, and I am glad we did not. We did however eat breakfast at our hotel each morning, but it was less expensive to order from the menu than do the meal plan. We also wanted to option to leave the resort to eat - which we did almost every day for lunch and a few nights for dinner. The night we did have dinner, it was great! They have nice specials every day and they also have Steak (or chicken or shrimp) on a stone - LOTS of fun for a meal!

If you are into diving, the main dive excursion on the island are out of this hotel - great convenience! We also booked an excursion through the dive shop to go back to the main land for the zip lining & cave tubing tour! IT WAS FABULOUS and totally worth the money!!!

We rented a golf cart from Ramon's the first day to explore the island. You can rent by the hour and they only charge you for the time you are gone - different than many other rental companies. IF you want to go over the bridge, you must rent a gas powered golf cart from another company. We stopped at a local grocery to pick up some beer - our room had a mini fridge - but next time we would by directly off the beer truck!

We by far had the best beach on the island. If you like snorkling, you can do so right off the pier. Pool was nice, but foilage was a bit over-grown for us...January low 80's...but I can see how that area would be FAB if it was warmer!

Upon leaving, the hotel office staff verified our flights for us - to make sure we were on he correct flight leaving the island. VERY helpful staff.

The worst part of the entire trip - it wasn't long enough!

Enjoy if you are travelling to Ambergris Caye andstaying in Ramon's Village!

Room Tip: Ocean Views are worth the extra $$$

The beach and location are beautiful and the perfect place to escape! The snorkeling ay Hol Chan and shark ray alley was the best I've ever seen! The meal at pineapples, the on site restaurant, was delicious and service was great. We took a group of 13 people while in Belize doing mission work, and this was a great way to begin our time together and to get a taste of the beauty that is Belize!
