“Would go back in a second”
Reviewed November 19, 2009

We stayed at Victoria House the second week of our honeymoon and it was the best way to end the vacation. The location was great and the staff was very friendly.

We stayed in eastern Belize the first week and did the adventures while there. It was really nice to come to Victoria House to have the rest and relaxation part of the trip. Ambergris really doesn't have a lot of great beachfront but the area in front of Victoria House was the best we saw.

We originally had a Casita and they are very intimate and romantic. However, we upgraded to an Infinity Suite, which is a 2 story room over kitchen/living room. These are great if you are staying for a week or so as you can go shopping and then cook a few meals or have breakfast in your room. The kitchen was appointed with new cabinets, granite countertops and stainless appliances. The only complaint we had was that there seemed to be an ant problem along the back wall/counter of the kitchen that was hard to rectify. It was not too big an impact though we did not cook because of it. We may not have cooked anyway but I would not say that the ant problem ruined our stay.

Both pools are very nice. There is a traditional pool near the restaurant and the bar and then an infinity pool by the suites. We spent time at both.

You can rent golf carts to travel around and they have free bikes. The walk to the 'downtown' area is about 20-25 mins.

There is a 'shack' on their pier where you can schedule all of your activities. We scheduled up snorkeling at Shark Ray Alley and Hol Chan and then also did a half day of fishing. When we brought back all the snapper we caught that day the guide cleaned the fish for us and the kitchen cooked it up for our dinner that night.

The food onsite is pretty good, but not super. We ate their 6 of our 7 nights. We HIGHLY recommend the Seafood Cake appetizer and the English Muffins at breakfast are made onsite and are incredible (more like a buttermilk biscuit). The wait staff and bartenders are very friendly and helpful. GREAT attitudes.

Not too far from the resort is a lagoon where you can see crocs (as close as 5 feet away) at sunset. That was pretty cool.

We miss the place and would go back in an instant. Please note we are very picky about cleanliness, friendliness and nice beds and this place did not disappoint.

My husband and I stayed for a week at Victoria House on our honeymoon and it was the perfect place. A representative from the hotel met us at the airport in San Pedro and drove us to the hotel. It is about a two mile ride through town and down the one "paved" road on the island (it's actually cobblestones with speed bumps every few hundred yards). The ride was scenic and not too long, but if you want to go in to town on a regular basis it is a $5 cab ride each way.

The hotel is gorgeous as you know if you have looked at their website. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful as well. They respect your privacy and aren't overbearing, but they are ready and willing to help if you have any questions. Most people staying at the hotel are couples on a romantic vacation, so everyone pretty much keeps to themselves. In fact, we often felt like we were the only ones there - we would sit on the beach on their awesome double loungers and be the only ones there. Very peaceful.

Our room was fantastic - very spacious, large bathroom, big closet, great bed, high ceilings, and air conditioning worked very well (which I was nervous about from a few other reviews). We also had a TV in our room with more than enough channels.

The food at Victoria House is amazing (but expensive). We took advantage of their complimentary continental breakfast which consisted of a drink of choice (tea, juice, coffee, etc.) and a lovely basket of breads and pastries. We ordered lunch several times from the Admiral Nelson's bar ($12-$15/person) and really enjoyed everything we got, especially the fish and shrimp tacos. We ate dinner at Victoria House once and it was very expensive, but very delicious. There are, however, many other wonderful places to eat on the island, so dinner once at Victoria House was enough.

We utilized the dive shop twice on our trip. Once for a snorkeling trip and once for a day excursion to the Lamani ruins. Snorkeling was incredible - I would highly recommend it. Lamanai was a very long trip (by boat and bus), but the sites were great once you got there.

The only caution that I would point out is that Victoria House is located about two miles from town so if you want to check out the restaurants, nightlife, or shopping, you need to have some sort of transportation as it is really too hot to walk there. As I mentioned, taxi is $5 each way, you can use the complimentary bicycles during the day, or you can rent a golf cart. We found the taxi option to be the cheapest and most convenient for our needs.

But Victoria House benefits from its seclusion. Most of all, I really enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere of the hotel as well as the sense of privacy and quiet. It is a truly beautiful place and I hope that we get to go back again in the future. I would absolutely choose Victoria House again.

This is a beautiful resort--no argument there. This was the second part of our honeymoon--having spent the first part in the jungle. We were greeted immediately at check-in by a concierge who gave us a tour of the resort. The rooms had fresh flowers the first day. This hotel has the best beach and longest beach. The resort is luxurious, with very attentive staff. It is a bit far away, but a 20 minute walk to town. Or you can rent golf carts. And the cabs are reasonable. The only downside is that it is very expensive. I recommend going into town to eat, or down the beach to Ramon's for lunch. The food in town is best on the middle streets. It's cheap and authentic. Calientes on the beach is fun, and you have to go for the chicken drop--it's a must see cultural activity. The people are friendly. The clubs don't get started til midnight--so you have to be a late night owl. We had a great time.

Having gotten married at Victoria House 8 years ago and having visited multiple times since, we decided to celebrate my 40th birthday with a dozen friends at VH. We rented two of the beach-front houses (Casa Azul and Casa Playa Blanca) for a long weekend. We got there right after the seasonal shut-down and the place looked amazing. The staff was as warm, fun, gracious, and attentive as ever.

Over the years my friends have heard my wife and I talk about Belize and Victoria House -- and they finally got the chance to see for themselves. My friends loved the fishing, the snorkeling, the pool time, and just relaxing. We were able to show them a more personal side of San Pedro -- the hole-in-the-wall restaurants we've come to love over the years, the furniture shop who built most of our patio furniture, and our friends at various places around town. The real highlight, however, was Victoria House. We all enjoyed "checking on the Admiral" (visiting the Admiral Nelson Bar), lounging at the mini infinity pool at Casa Playa Blanca (which came to be known as the "minfinity" pool), the wonderful food, and the amazing staff. I cannot recommend Victoria House more highly for couples and groups looking for a relaxing, authentic experience in paradise.

We'd never heard of Victoria House until a family member decided to be married there. If you enjoy the huge, bustling, "wear an armband to charge things", Victoria House is probably not for you, but it's definitely for us and we'll be back again, bringing friends and family.
We have traveled extensively and I can say with certainty that the V.H. staff are the nicest and warmest people we've ever encountered.
We stayed 5 nights, and could have stayed longer if time had allowed. My husband dives, but decided not to on this trip just because we wanted to simply relax, but from what we've heard, the area is one of the top rated dive locations in the world.
The food was out of this world. We've stayed in Rosewood, Four Seasons, and Ritz hotels where the food hasn't consistently been as good as what Victoria House produces.
We stayed in a thatched roof Casita and enjoyed it immensely. Not having a television or a phone in our room has never bothered us, yet we did have wi-fi to communicate by email, and our phones had service with International Long Distance. We had family and friends that stayed in the larger houses, yet we were very happy with our casita.
The beach is beautiful, however, there are many seagrass beds in the water. Evidently these play a large roll in protecting the whole ecosystem involving the 2nd longest barrier reef in the world, which is off the coast of Ambergris Caye, and can be seen from the hotel. It's a snorkelers paradise with this reef. All this being said - you don't just jump in the beach and play around like you would at other resorts. However, we did spend a lot of time on the beach during the day and evenings.
You don't have to exchange any if you're from the US, they'll take our dollars.
Don't leave without getting one of Ceci's massages! I had 3 in 5 days - it was that good!
We'll be back!

I stayed at Victoria House for a week during my honeymoon trip. When I called to confirm my reservation I said I was on my honey moon and asked if we could get a room with a good view. Not only did we get a good view, the hotel upgraded our room and gave us a complimentary bottle of chamagne when we arrived. The staff was very attentive and friendly, The rooms were very nice and romantic, their was no TV, Radio or phone to which I say Amen! I don't feel the hotel is the best place for children as most people we met were on honeymoons and looking for a quiet romantic getaway. You can charge everything from food and drinks to your airfare to your guest folio to be paid when you leave the hotel. Which is very nice so you can use cash in the town. Each room had a mini bar and safe to keep your valuables. I will be staying here again the next ime I come to Belize.

We stayed here on the second half of our honeymoon and it was a honeymoon paradise! We went during low season and there weren't many people there. The food and drink are a bit expensive but very good. The walk into town isn't too far -- definitely worth it if you're looking for a little variety with the food. The staff is very friendly and always willing to help. All around a great honeymoon spot!
