I understand that what is pleasing to one's palate is highly subjective, but there is no getting around the fact that Elvi's Kitchen is an experience that you will not want to miss, should you be dining on the island of Ambergris Caye. Our family has been visiting the island for 35+ years as my parents have owned homes on Isla Bonita, and we have been dining at Elvi's throughout those years. The physical restaurant has evolved over those years, and on our latest trip the ambiance has been enhanced with live Classical and Spanish Guitar music. The one thing that has not changed is the tastiness and quality of the meals that Elvi serves to her patrons. From the get-go Elvi's has been special, and it has only gotten better. This week we have dined there three evenings. I have especially enjoyed the Whole Fish Dinner (Hog Snapper deep fried to perfection, head left on, of course!) served with choice of baked potato, beans and rice, etc. Other tasty meals enjoyed by our group were the Mayan chicken, (baked, wrapped in banana leaf), Fish ala Elvi, Shrimp Creole, Mayan Fish, Coconut Shrimp, Stewed Chicken, Fish with Blackbean Sauce, Garlic Chipotle Lobster (yum!). If you ever visit the the island I would highly recommend Elvi's, and even suggest that you would be disappointed if you left the island without enjoying the dining experience at Elvi's Kitchen.
