Pedro’s says **** You and I agree. Damn straight! Bring your selfish, one-sided, ignorant notions about the world and come enjoy yourself with the rest of the world’s counterculture. Just be yourself and you will fit right in at this place. Fat, skinny, tall, short, black, white they don’t care. Sometimes you got to get out of your comfort zone and drain some of that blue blood. Admit it, we all love our opinions but our conclusions are pointless when, oh **** it. Pedro’s doesn’t like pretentious snobs but will like you.

Pedro’s is smarter than they look. Bullocks! I stayed for something like months. Less than a lifetime but more than a day and I say if you don’t bring a little paradise with you, you won’t find it here. I can hear some of you complaining already. And there’s a lot to complain about so meanwhile enjoy the best pizza in SP along with unsuspectingly brilliant upscale meals served in the bar. Dion makes the smashest shrimp creole. Just ask for what you want and they can probably find it, amazing.

The staff is local and experienced and willingly help with any questions or advice. The kitchen is clean. There’s drinks in the office including coffee. Hammocks, deck chairs, plenty of bikes and white sand everywhere.

My advice:

1. Stay at Pedro’s

2. Stay at Pedro’s

3. Party at Pedro’s. You won’t want to miss the gorgeous and talented folks that come through. Think you’re good at judging people? Great! That means you’re an *******. Pedro’s can help.

4. Don’t just drink. Take a day off. Especially if you have this thing about getting smashed every time you check into a hotel. It’s pavlovian behavior and you know it. I’m particularly speaking to young Americans and everybody else.

5. Leave Pedro’s. Just like you left your opinions you can pick them up on your way out. And pay your entire bill. I got to know the staff and they all work hard, have families and enjoy being appreciated. If you like breaking things and taking what isn’t yours Pedro’s has a great working relationship with the police. Security cameras everywhere. It’s the safest place in SP.

Well, that’s all I know and it’s too much. You’ll need a little grit to really enjoy this place. It’s worth trying or you can stay someplace where the owner wears shoes.

The hostel itself is a nice place, but too close to the airstrip and therefore noisy! Construction was being done when we were there and I don't recall that it was mentioned to us when we booked. Internet connection is free and great. Rooms are cramped with nothing other than 2 single beds. Showers and toilets spotless at all times, but some hooks or a stool to put towels / clothes on would have been appreciated. Twice a staff member knocked on our door at 8.30am, just to ask us if we were staying or checking out!! She should have checked with the guy at the office and not disturb our sleep.

San Pedro island itself is incredibly expensive so it was great to stay in a hostel for a good price. They have a nice pool and area sit outside and meet people. The WiFi connection is great and we never had any problems waking up to planes, but they are adding more rooms so construction can be heard pretty early in the morning. It was nice and clean (rooms and the bathrooms) and the owners were willing to help us and answer any questions we had. They offer excursions for reasonable prices as well.

Cramped rooms, airstrip so close sounds like the planes are going to land in the room. Had valuables stolen from room, no forced entry so guess who. Dont take the chance, better places with better value that dont steal your stuff.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else.

Good place to stay, clean, well run, good bar, they had bands playing outside when we stayed which was great in the warm evenings. It's expensive but that's simply because San Pedro, Belize, is more expensive than the rest of Central America. In comparison to other places in San Pedro it's good value- can't get confused between the two. I'd recommend.

I have been travelling for some time backpacking and stayed for a few nights at Pedros Backpackers.

Private rooms are very small and expensive for what they are. San Pedro overall is expensive but as this is the only ¨hostel we felt the owners take advantage of this fact and so can charge more than your average hostel.

No Kitchen facilities either doesnt help, so for the budget traveller this is not good.

Cleaning staff and bar workers are very friendly and helpful more so than reception which at some points they were stand offish with a number of guests.

15 minute walk to main center is not bad. Pool area was good.

Advice is to stay in Caye Caulker and go to san pedro for a day or better off staying in a hotel for a bit more which has better value for money.

Shared bathrooms were pretty clean... soap in the hand dispenser in the sink area would of been good!

Runway is pretty noisy too! Flights start about 6am so prepare to be woken up!

Thank you for your feedback. Regarding our prices, Pedro’s charges the same amount for equivalent lodging as the hostels on our sister island of Caye Caulker, so you are off base in suggesting that we are taking advantage of being in San Pedro to charge higher prices. We offer more amenities than most of the other hostels as well, including free wifi and a swimming pool, while charging the same price. Some things are a little more expensive here, the prices for the hostel rooms is definitely not one of them.

We’re sorry to hear that you felt the office staff a bit stand off-ish. We would be interesting in hearing more about that if it were possible, since Cindy and the office staff repeatedly get rave reviews on trip advisor for their level of service and friendliness.

It’s obvious that you are more partial to Caye Caulker, different strokes for different folks of course, however it’s disappointing that some feel the need to talk down about one thing to build another up. We have many, many backpackers stay with us and love Ambergris Caye. Some even leave us to experience Caye Caulker and end up returning because they enjoyed Ambergris Caye more.

if you arrive with the water taxi and you don't want to walk for around 15 min. you should catch a taxi (price between 5 to 7 BZ$) because the hostel is quite a bit away from the centre. besides that it is a nice, clean hostel.

very basic double rooms cost 50BZ$ per night for 2 persons. the room itself is small, there are two beds, two lights, a fan and nothing else in there. no opportunities to store your things, no place to dry wet clothes ...nothing! also there is no plug in the room to charge your laptop/phone..

- mattresses are quite hard
- wifi connection is the best one i used so far in belize
- the pool is small but a good place to hang out
- there is no kitchen and no common room (i found this quite annoying because there are no further options to sit/hang out...)

the homepage is a bit out of date.. f.ex. they do not rent out snorkel equipment etc.

besides that some services are offered but they are overpriced:
- bike rental: 20BZ$ per day
- laundry service: 25BZ$ per load
- golf cart rental: 2 hours for around 50BZ$
- coffee: between 3-7BZ$

so the hostel is okay but i think there might be better deals on the island

Thank you for your feedback. We endeavour to provide a high level of service even as a Backpacker’s Hostel.

While we agree that taking a taxi from town is preferable to walking with luggage, the walk to and from town is more like 7 to 10 minutes, not 15 minutes. Our hostel rooms are very basic, that is true, and at no time have we ever represented them otherwise.

Common areas are abundant at Pedro’s – they just happen to be outside for the most part were most of our guests prefer to gather. Throughout the day guests make use of the 2 separate picnic table/hammock areas, the pool and the office to gather and hang out as Ambergris Caye is a tropical paradise, and at night many gather in the bar/restaurant as well. There are also many outlets in all of these common areas where you can recharge laptops, cameras and cell phones. We will be adding a second pool within the next few months, so there will be even more room to hang out there.

There are washing lines available for use to hang wet clothing. All of the mattresses are real mattresses, not foam.

Thank you for pointing out the error on our website, we have since revised that information. Also, thank you for commenting on our wifi connection. We have the fastest ISP package available in Belize for use by our guests.

Regarding prices, we charge the same prices for those services as other companies in San Pedro. It is $20 Bz to rent a bike for the first day and $12 Bz for any additional day – that is the same pricing as the bike rental companies in town, as is the price of laundry service at the Laundromats in San Pedro. Laundry service is generally expensive on the island due to the high price of water. Our Golf Cart rental prices are also the same as any Golf Cart Rental agency, however all of our golf carts are comprehensively insured, which the others are not.

The office offers brewed coffee for 1 Bz per cup throughout the day (50 cents US). The pricing that was quoted is for ‘fancy’ cappuccinos, lattes and espressos from the espresso machine.
