“Stewed meat!”
Reviewed July 6, 2014

Stewed beef and pork were great! Seems all the rice on the island is coconut, but none the less good. This place was really kinda hidden away so it seems a little scary at first.

“Great”
Reviewed July 6, 2014

I have been to San Pedro five times and on my last visit finally had dinner at El Fogon. I regret not having visited sooner. This place is off the beach so may get ignored but is very much worth a stop. The restaurant is not far from the water, two blocks back, and is a tiny cozy place with an indoor dining area and outdoor space. We sat outdoors at a table under a palapa. The service was very good and friendly. Our waiter kept apologizing for the wait for the meal but we knew this was expected as everything is made fresh. And being on vacation, we were not in a hurry. The food did not disappoint. It was one of our best meals on the island. I recommend this when visiting the island. Great home cooked Belizean food.

“Not as billed”
Reviewed July 5, 2014 via mobile

I've eaten and some good places and some bad places around the world so I have a very easy-going reading system. We will hear on the recommendation of our bartender and it turned out the recommendation was a bad one. The service was slow and when I mean slow even slow by Island standards we ordered two drinks and two meals and an appetizer. The drinks came out after 15 minutes the dinner after 45 and the appetizers never came out.

In addition my girl ordered a bottled water with the dinner which never showed up until the end of the dinner. We asked the waiter since it came too late if he could take back the unopened bottle of water and take it off our bill which, he said he would. He took the water but when we got the bill the water was still on the bill.

So overall I would not recommend this place as the drink prices were high, the food average, & the service was poor.

“Some of the best food on the island”
Reviewed July 5, 2014

El Fogon has some of the best food on the island. It's hidden away on a side street across from the airport. It has been family owned and operated since it opened many years ago. Offering great Belizean home cooking.

“Great Experience”

Five star foods served in the open air with thatch roof, picnic tables and sand floor. Service was also impeccable. Value was good.
