We loved El Fogon! Contrary to what's reported on several travel sites and in some travel books, El Fogon is open for lunch AND dinner and DOES take major credit cards.A bit difficult to find, we stumbled on it and marked it's location as N17*55.096 W087*57.864 on GPS.

Food was wonderful. We were looking for genuine Belizean cooking and found it here. Try the conch fritters and Key Lime Pie. Loved the smokey flavor that the Fagon added to the entres. Friendly knowledgeable service.

Known for their conch dishes. One of the best places for lunch. They write the daily offerings on a black board, and are kind enough to offer explanations to the gringos. Sit at a picnic table and enjoy the local dishes. When we were there, it became filled with businessmen...a good sign.

Genuine Belizean cooking! It doesn't get more down to earth and basic. Any Belizean who grew up on Mom's cooking will love the fire hearth flavours and Belizean spices!
If you're looking for fine dining, you need to go somewhere else.
Basic, delicious, Belizean!

Tasty lunch, apps and a rum drink. Started raining and chatted with Henry for a bit. Showed us the Fogon (wood burning stone grill with chimney) and custom bathroom sink made of wood and shells. Water pours out of a conch shell. Really nice people. will be back for dinner.

This place was recommended to us by our bartender working at our resort as a local staple and El Fogon didn't disappoint. Very clean, and hands down the best and most friendly staff and food we experienced in our two weeks on the island. The staff were friendly enough to even brief us on some island history and locales. The salbutes were incredible!! Don't forget to try their specialty fresh lime rum beverage!!
