“First stop on an incredible honeymoon”

Beautiful and relaxing. We watched the ocean from the porch of our cabana each morning. The food was great (ohhh how I miss those jacks) and everyone at the resort was wonderful. We'd go back in a second.

Okay, if you are someone that loves the Ritz, Four Seasons, Hyatt, etc then this is not a hotel you will appreciate. We stayed at one of their cabanas, there is no a/c, the shower is outside the room and you are more than likely to get bitten by mosquitos (if precaution isn't taken), but..... the view you have of the beach and the sea, the fact that you have your own cabana for yourself and the decoration of the room makes you think you are Robinson Crusoe stranded on paradise island. What more could you ask for? Don't we all go to these places to get away from large cities and busy lives? This hotel is all about discnnecting from ordinary life and enjoying your time on the island and with who you travel with. I highly recommend a yoga lesson, swimming off the end of their pier and taking a stroll (day or night) up and down the beach. You will find all sorts of wonderful restaurantes with incredible seafood and a rather interesting 2 story bar.

Ak'bol is the most peaceful retreat in Belize. The staff was amazing and everyone seemed to know my name from the second I got their. The cabana's are well appointed. I loved the conch shell faucet. The pool with all the natural greenery so you feel like you are in swimming in a private watering hole was a plus. Lastly the yoga can't be beat each morning on the end of the dock looking over the sea with the palapa for shade.

Take advantage of all the resort has to offer, The beach for great beach walks, The water for great swimmimg and snorkleing and the reef for just the most beautiful scenery you will ever see. As you can probably tell I just loved my stay there, and will do so over and over again.

Room Tip: Beachfront cabana is my choice.

A sweet staff, a charming beachfront bar and grill, a large shaded palapa over the water for yoga, swimming or sunbathing, views of sunrise over the Caribbean Sea and sunset over the island lagoons, nice cool pool, safe warm sea, easy with kids, an 30-40 minute walk to the (touristic) town for restaurants. Best features include Belize-knowledgeable American owners Milio and Kirsten, yoga offered 1-2 times daily, fruit smoothies with a shot of rum, the slowly developing but amazingly fishy reef-ette right under the end of the dock, and the fact that almost everyone who comes is calm, conscious, thoughtful and respectful. Bar and grill closes at 5 or 6, so the evenings are quiet, moonlit, restful. Five minute walk to Palapa bar for Parrot Heads, boat folk and a little more partying, or to Aji, a Spanish tapas and more restaurant for great meals.

I stayed here with a fishing buddy for a week of guided fly fishing around Abergris Caye (ask for Omar or Darryl for guided fly fishing). We stayed in the Yoga barracks and it was perfectly suited to our needs, and at $50 U.S. per day ($25 each), it was an incredible value. There were motels in town for around the same price, but you cant beat this location.

If you cant sleep when you are hot, then you may want to splurge on one of the air-conditioned units on the beach, but only one of the nights I was there was uncomfortably hot in the barracks, and even then, I was so exhausted from fishing I only took notice of the heat for 90 seconds or so before I passed out. Bring a headlamp (the rooms are dark). And be prepared to share the cooed bathrooms (super clean) with private(ish) showers.

The barracks provide an awesome social gathering place and it feels kind of like a fantastical tropical college dormitory. Pretty neat.

The service is "good enough" and the grounds are simply spectacular. Decent bonefishing right out in front of the bar too! Food at the bar is shockingly good, and fairly priced, although you can eat for less than $10 US per day in town, so you may want to consider renting a golf cart (Polo's on the north side of town has the best rates on golf carts)

AKBOL!! Ill return whenever I can! See you there!

My husband and I stayed at Ak'Bol while on our 5th wedding anniversary trip, and we both feel that the first thing that to emphasize is how beautiful this place is. Ambergris Caye is certainly beautiful, but having walked miles on the beach in each direction, we would say that Ak'Bol itself is blessed with particularly beautiful gardens, spectacular hues of water to the East, and beautiful sunset/lagoon views to the West. It feels private and remote on a coast that, to us, was surprisingly well-populated. We split our time between the barracks (fantastic deal) and a seafront cabana (definitely worth the splurge, if you can afford it). We loved the restaurant - really yummy food at very reasonable prices. The yoga in the mornings was a beautiful start to each day, and the flats are great for fishing. Kirsten and Milio really don't interfere with your trip, but are happy to answer questions/help you resolve any issues that come up. We needed access to email in order to check in on our baby back at home, but could not get Ak'Bol's wifi to work on our iphones. However, the close by Palapa Bar has free, fast wifi and really good rum punch. Overall, our experience here was great and we only wish it was longer (and maybe a little warmer - maybe April or May next time?) Thank you, Kirsten and Milio, for providing the perfect place for us to relax and restore.
