I almost didn't write a review because everyone else is also raving about how wonderful the resort actually is. We booked a one bedroom suite, but when we arrived we were given a two bedroom suit. It was HUGE! Both bathrooms easily accommodate two people at a time, with plenty of storage in the closets and drawers. The kitchen is fully functional with anything you'd need (if you're into cooking on a vacation). Everything worked as expected, the wifi was strong in the room, and they priovide you with a local cell phone for use while on the island. We rented a golf cart and although we had it for about five hours, were only charge for four (half day was around $45 USD). Food in the Red Orchid was good for breakfast and dinner. We did not give it a chance for lunch, as there were too many other options in San Pedro. All of the staff were very accommodating and pleasant.

Room Tip: All rooms have good views. Third floor beach front (with wrap around balconies) have ocean view blo...

My husband took me to Belize for my birthday...didn't know what to expect. But when we arrived at the hotel (cab ride was all arranged in advance by the Phoenix), we were greeted with delicious cold and scented towels and a drink with an optional rum shot - thank you, Pam! The service was incredible from every employee we encountered (from front desk - Pam, arranging tours - Gabriella, pool bar and restaurant - Rolando and Maurice). Then there was the very spacious room - with kitchen. And to celebrate my birthday, they decorated the bedspread with hibiscus and bougainvillea petals which spelled out "Happy Birthday". They also put a birthday cake and a bd card signed by the entire staff in the kitchen AND a small bottle of the local rum (which as delicious!) along with recipes of suggested rum drinks. The entire trip was incredible due in no small part to the staff and their attention to detail. When can I go back????

Before we even arrived, Mark, Pam and staff were helping make arrangments and plans to make our trip wonderful. This was probably the best experience we've ever had with so much help from the hotel. Amenities, arrangements, staff, etc couldn't have been better. After we arrived, Gabriella was also a great asset in making our way around the island, even walking with us to the ATM. Rolando - well....he got us hooked on Dirty Bananas! YUM!!
The place was exceptionally clean. Red Ginger breakfast was delicious and superb service. The Phoenix was definitely a great choice for lodging! The people of Belize are fantastic!!

Room Tip: Stayed in B5 - top floor - view straight out to the sea - great spot - 1 bedroom. Really liked the...

I was obviously skeptical, probably like you are right now, about the Phoenix due to all the 5-star reviews. No place could really be that good, right?

Well, they EXCEEDED our expectations on our vacation!

First of all the rooms are beautiful! Huge and spacious. We had to stay in a 2 bedroom condo since the 1 bedrooms were all booked. It was way too big for just the two of us but it was amazing to have all the room. We used the kitchen a ton, the balcony was amazing for sunrises early in the morning and the amenities in the bathroom and laundry are great.

Every single member of the staff was helpful. Maurice and Rolando were great at the pool bar and all of the front desk staff was amazingly helpful. Any request or need was met with a smile and a prompt response.

We took the tour into the Mayan ruins and it was great. Very hot and a long day but well worth the money. We also did the snorkeling with Lil Alphons and I highly recommend this trip. If you do nothing else go snorkeling!

The resort is small and quiet. All of the rooms face the beach and you have a great view of the ocean. The pool was quiet and not busy most days. The service at the pool bar was great and we met some really friendly people.

A few notes:
1) Places you must eat: Elvi's, El Fagon, El Caliente, Estels (breakfast), Palapa Bar in the afternoon for drinks, Red Ginger was good, DandE's Frozen Custard
2) If you like wine go to Wine De Vine and buy your wine there for the trip. Great selection at good prices.
3) To save money on booze buy liquor at the stores and make your own drinks
4) The gym at the hotel is lacking a bit. I did most of my workouts on the balcony using bands and a TRX. If you are a fitness junkie or gym rat there are a few gyms close by but I didn't go to them.
5) The grocery stores are simple and stocked with lots of processed foods. It was easier for us to eat at restaurants than cook good healthy meals.

We will definitely be heading back for sure!

We stayed at The Phoenix Resort from May 26 through June 1, 2014. The staff are great and extremely helpful, regardless of the request. Our two bedroom/bath condo (# A11) was truly a home away from home. Plenty of space for our family of four, with a balcony accessible from both bedrooms and the living room, and a great view of the pool and sea. The property is small enough (30 units I believe) that it never felt crowded, particularly the pool.

The Phoenix is walking distance from many of the restaurants in San Pedro, and there are many shops and grocery stores within walking distance as well. They also have golf cart rentals available if you need to explore further away from the resort.

We would definitely return on our next trip to Belize.

Room Tip: Our condo, A11, seemed to be a good choice, it was in the middle of the complex on the third floor...

Stunning views, cozy cloud bed, great shower/bath products, wonderful pool area with friendly and talented bar tenders. It felt as though anything we needed was available at the Phoenix. The staff was very warm and friendly. Having an ipad in the room was a great touch as it allowed us to look up local restaurants, etc in the area.
We loved that we were in the center of town and that the moment we stepped out of the hotel grounds were were in the midst of the energy of the city: locals selling crafts, children being let out of school, countless bars and eateries to walk to and choose from. It was nice to feel a part of a community rather then to be completely sequestered in our resort the entire time.
Tip: Although the Phoenix offers a great view of the sea, there is not a beach area in front. We walked to Ramones Village and had a great time swimming off the dock there, which had a designated swim area.
Another tip: It felt as though the Phoenix caters more toward groups and families as the rooms are more like condos. This did not take away from our experience at all, but made us think of having a group trip someday at the resort as there is definitely the space for it.

Room Tip: We stayed in C5 and loved, loved, loved the view and our balcony!

Best hotel on San Pedro. Clean, not overcrowded, large well furnished rooms, with modern amenities and great views. Great birthday!
P.S. Don't expect to check in early.
I would expect all-inclusive for the price of the hotel. Despite that would stay here again.

Room Tip: Choose a room that's on the ground floor directly facing the ocean. Easier to get back and forth...
