Las Terrazas Resort
Ranked #10 of 53 Hotels in San Pedro
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed February 22, 2014

My wife and I just returned from a four-night stay at Las Terrrazas, and our only lament is that we didn't stay longer.

This was our second trip to Belize, but first to Ambergris Caye. We had a wonderful time at two resorts on the mainland during our first trip, but wanted to try something different and opted for a slice of island life.

We chose Las Terrazas after doing a little homework because it looked like a quiet, stylish place that seemed to be centrally located. It was all that and more.

The staff was top-notch - friendly, efficient, patient and attentive without hovering. In particular, Andrea at the front desk was terrific. She had all the answers and anticipated our needs more than once.

The resort itself is beautiful and immaculately maintained. All rooms are steps from a well-groomed stretch of beach, a dock that is on the island's water taxi route and is next door to one of the most well-regarded dive shops on the island. We had a spacious two-bedroom unit that opened out onto the pool/courtyard that dominates the outdoor space at the resort. Despite being in the middle of everything - and being there at the same time as a wedding party - noise wasn't an issue at all.

The resort caters to couples, and the vibe is relaxed - stylish without being stuffy - and there were few young children around. We had dinner at 'O' restaurant two nights and ordered from room service one other time. For the most part, the food was outstanding (We recommend the barracuda, seafood ravioli, seafood risotto and the shrimp ceviche) and the service was earnest. The closest thing to a criticism I have is that our food took longer than expected to arrive one evening - buy, hey, what else were we doing).

The resort's location was ideal from our perspective. We took advantage of the dive shop to book a great half-day snorkel trip and used the water taxi to get to San Pedro, the main town on the island. Mostly, though, we walked up and down the beach stopping at the various resorts and bars between San Pedro and Las Terrazas to eat and drink as the spirit moved us.

As was the case during our first visit to Belize three years ago, we found the people gracious and polite, and the service unfailingly friendly - if a bit leisurely at times (not at Las Terrazas, though).

My wife and I agree that we definitely will be returning to Belize. If we go back to Ambergris Caye, we wouldn't think to go anywhere other than Las Terrazas.

Room Tip: The "resort view" room we had was the least expensive, but the place is so quiet that havi...

Our sales team selected Belize as their preferred destination for their recent incentive trip. I researched different resorts and selected Las Terrazas Resort. Their Houston-based sales team was great to work while planning the trip and the Belize-based staff was terrific in taking care of the group once they arrived at the resort. The group reported back that the accommodations were wonderful and the staff was very accommodating and personable. The size of the resort was perfect for our group. They could spend time together or have private time, as they chose. They enjoyed taking advantage of the Hobie Cats, bicycles, beach, pool and Spa. They raved about what a wonderful trip it was, which was the best news I could have received. This trip set the bar high and will be a challenge for me when planning future incentive trips.

What an amazing week at Las Terrazas! I honestly cannot think of a place where I have had better and more personable service. The entire crew is friendly, helpful, and went out of their way to make our visit extra special from the minute we arrived. We landed in San Pedro and Walter the taxi driver was there on time to pick us up. He remembered us from last year and we caught up on the way to the dock. The folks from Las Terrazas picked us up in San Pedro in a boat and we were greeted at the resort dock with fresh juice and rum punch. We stayed for 6 nights and the entire staff -- from the front desk to the restaurant to the poolside service -- treated us like family. When we left we were so sad and I really felt like we were leaving our good friends in Belize. We hope to return again soon. Special thanks to Manuel at the front desk for helping us navigate our adventures and setting us up with great suggestions for dinner and an amazing all-day boat trip. If you are contemplating a trip to Ambergris Caye and looking for a great resort, you cannot go wrong with a stay at Las Terrazas.

Room Tip: This is our third trip. There are a few different layouts and I personally enjoyed staying in a mid...

The hotel grounds were immaculate and the staff was incredibly nice. There was a mix-up with our duty-free alcohol where our stuff was left at the airport in Belize City. They coordinated with the airlines to ferry it over on a subsequent flight and delivered it to our room.

Paddle boarding, kayaks and Hobie Cats are free to the guests; we kayaked out towards the reef and snorkeled right there around tons of tropical fish and a big sting ray. It is astounding how much clear water surrounds you. It's cliche, but to say it was as clear as a swimming pool would be an understatement! The water was about 5-ft deep in all directions.

Food at O is good and offers a nice variety if you are staying for a week or less. Andrea and Manual at the front desk along with LeRon are some of the nicest people we have ever come across anywhere on the planet. So happy to help with anything and everything. The boat driver/captain Jamal is super nice and was an excellent conversationalist while en route on the water. The van driver, Walter, should not be left out. He stopped for us at the grocery store and patiently waited for us to get groceries for the week.

Would love to go back once they build out the property to their South, we were told there will be a nicer pool that has a swim-up bar.

Many thanks to Scott and Mrs. Margie for allowing us to enjoy this wonderful place. If you are lucky you will get to meet them while they are visiting. There are two local residents that we chatted with quote a bit - Truman and Debbie. All the like, they are smart and awesome people who truly embody the inviting culture and warming atmosphere which gleefully saturates Las Terrazas.

If you are considering Ambergris Caye and want a quaint, romantic resort away from the main town's hustle and bustle....THIS is your spot!

Getting to this resort is half the fun! The small prop plane from Belize City to San Pedro over turquoise colored waters was amazing. Arriving by boat to an awaiting rum punch served by a smiling, gracious uniformed staff is always a good sign of things to come. This resort has everything needed for a sensational and relaxing vacation. The only thing the wonderfully helpful staff were unable to arrange was sunshine--cold front and rain 4 our of 6 days.

The resort property is small when compared to most oceanfront American resorts, however this is also part of its charm. Behind a grove of sheltering palms sits a whitewashed oasis of modern condo dwellings and a sleek relaxing pool. Our unit was 343, a 3 bedroom penthouse with private plunge pool. The unit was terrific. The kitchen equipped with every requisite utensil/coffee pot/blender and more than enough pots & pans. A very comfortable dining room comfortably seats 8. The master bedroom was large with ample closet space, very comfortable bed and linens. We opted for the daily room cleaning and were glad we did as it was always pleasurable to come "home" to an immaculate room. The 2nd bedroom was as large as the master and actually had a much larger shower. The third bedroom had two singles and a niced sized closet. All televisions are HD and the main room is also surround sound. This is nice as when the weather is bad (apparently quite rare) you spend a great deal of time in your room.

This resort is for relaxing. The pool is sedate, very few children and the ocean front activities are minimal. A great feature is many of the items are free. Want to hop in a kayak with your snorkel gear and paddle out to snorkel the reef? Free. Feel like jumping on a paddle board? Free. If you want to hop on the sail boat and tap into your nautical side, that too is free. There is no "nickel and diming" here. And the staff is beyond nice.

Every single person working there is terrific. Jamal, Curl, Andrea are top notch and go the extra mile to make certain you're delighted. There were many others too from the maid service to the waitresses at O, and all were exceptionally nice. I simply cannot say enough about them as they truly add to the delight of a vacation.

Here are a couple suggestions: definitely arrange for a snorkel excursion. You should also arrange for a reef fishing and shore bar b que. All four of us caught fish including several red and white snappers and a very nice Mackerel--which provided plenty of food for a few days. Ours was prepared for us by the boat captain, however you can bring anything you catch to the Chef at O and they'll prepare it for a very modest fee. The "Chicken Drop" on Thursday night in San Pedro defies logic (and perhaps common sense) but it is quite entertaining. Winning this event is more than you bargain for!

If you're looking for relaxation, ocean breezes and a night sky filled with stars, you're hard pressed to beat Las Terrazas. Add in the exceptional staff and your vacation will truly be exceptional.

The people at this resort were so friendly and helpful. Even though it rained the trip was great. The service at Las Terrazas was impeccable. The only complaint I have is the bugs on the patio. They were a nuisance but didn't bite.

I have heard so many good things about this place that it was a no brainer but after spending time (4 days) here we realized that the property was getting a bit tired. Tho our 2 bedroom condo facing the pool was nice, it always smelled like mold was somewhere inside.
Staff was nice and helpful, restaurant ok and convenient when it rained. It is located 5 miles from town and the roads were difficult to maneuver by golf cart. my big disappointment was the beach. No one ever mentioned the weeds and debris that were on all the beaches. It is not nice to walk from a sandy beach into a quagmire of grass and weeds that are there. Even tho they try to clean it up it is always back. We wished we had stayed at a nearby resort called Coco beach instead or Victoria house down in San Pedro!

Room Tip: Most any room would be ok as it is a fairly quiet resort.
