My husband and family stayed at Cocotal Dec. 17-26. I was very impressed that the pictures looked exactly what the property looks like in person. We stayed on the second floor with two bedrooms. The wood ceiling was beautiful and the bedrooms were very nice. Room service was every other day. It had air conditioning in the bedroom, and the breeze was very cool flowing through all day. Beaulah and Abner were great. They helped arrange all of our activities. We really enjoyed Searious adventures to the Lamanai ruins. My husband use ecological divers and was very happy with them. There was several restaurants surrounding the property which were easy to walk to... However, I will say that if you go to Lazy Crocs make sure and wear baby oil and bug spray. The first night I was eaten alive by them, and it make the rest of the trip a little difficult. We also rented a golf cart and it was very easy to drive into town whenever we wanted. One of the best things about Cocotal is Mara. She was our dog companion many nights and was such a sweet dog. We definitely would stay here again, as we loved it so much. Referring to a previous post, Cocotal ownership fixed the safe issue previously reported and I felt really safe on the property.

This was our first trip to Belize. Our family group occupied the main house 2 bedroom unit on the second level, the 1 bedroom unit on the ground level and the beach front cabana. We found Cocotal Inn and Cabanas a wonderful experience. My wife and I arrived in San Pedro via water taxi from Caye Caulker. We were met at the dock by Jesus and transported to the local water taxi dock with a stop at a local grocery store for a few supplies. After a short water taxi ride we arrived at the Cocotal dock and were met by Abner. We were well taken care of during our arrival experience with our luggage being carefully handled and feeling the honest welcome by all of the folks that took such good care of us. Our stay at the Cocotal included several special adventure trips as well as diving and snorkling. Beaulah coordinated all of our tours, diving and snorkling. We kayaked out to the reef, biked along the beach and enjoyed the bars and restaurants close by as well as in San Pedro. We had a golf cart, rented from Cocotal, available for our trips to San Pedro and restaraunts some distance away. Overall we had a great time. We ate at the Lazy Croc the first night. The food was excellent, however several of us received numerous insect bites. We had failed to apply insect repellant in sufficient quantity to deter these determined pests. A highlight of our trip was Mara the dog. Mara met us whenever we returned to the property and slept at our doorstep several nights. We became good friends with Mara. We thank Beaulah, Abner, Raual, Alma and all of the others for a great time.

I only have wonderful things to say about our stay at Cocotal Inn. We had the beachfront casita, its like having your own house right on the beach. The staff at Cocotal were amazing and helped us with everything we needed from arranging snorlkeing trips, taking out the free kayaks and bikes. The best part of Belize are the people. They are all kind and sweet. We will definatley be back to Cocotal. Mara, the dog was our constant companion, she loves to go to all the beach bars! Thans a lot to Beaulah, Raoul, Irma and Christine for making our stay so wonderful

Our stay here was one of mixed feelings. The Cocotal is a very nice resort. We stayed a week in one of the beach cabanas. The cabana was very nice, the staff friendly and very helpful.
Security of the facilities needs to be taken into account if wanting to stay here. We were burglarized our last night there. The main office was broken into. Keys to the cabanas, as well as keys to security boxes in the cabanas were taken and used to gain access to our cabana as well as a second cabana. Security boxes in the cabanas are simply fire boxes mounted to one of the night stands. These need to be upgraded to programmable combination style types of safes.
We had approximately $5000 worth of jewelry, cash, camera equipment, and cell phone taken. The second cabana had cash and cell phones taken. The police arrived 3 hours later (they are 3 miles away).
Like I stated earlier, this is a very nice resort. Our stay up till that point was very nice. I would be leery of staying here until they upgrade their security. It is very lax.

In response to this unfortunate event, the management and staff of Cocotal Inn and Cabanas have taken immediate steps to enhance our security systems and procedures within the compound. Meanwhile we are working with police and through the community to further investigate this incident. We also wish to remind our guests to be sure to adhere to the Cocotal rules regarding property access for non-registered guests and vendors.

The safety and security of our guests is of utmost importance to us. With the changes we are making we are confident that our on-site security has been greatly improved. In spite of those tightened measures, we still strive to provide the special ambiance and family like atmosphere that our guests have come to enjoy.

We are glad you liked our inn, and are truly sorry for the loss of your possessions. Hope to have you back some day under better circumstances.

Sincerely,
Tanya Graf, owner

Even before we left home we were impressed with the attention Beulah, the property manager, showed us in answering all our enquires, helping us to decide which excursions we would later book & arranging our pick up by their water taxi. On arrival, the beauty of the place made us stop and sigh a sigh of relief & wonder, at how beautiful this place actually was. It was only in the light of the following morning that the full picture was revealed - it was breathtaking.
We stayed in Cabana No.2, located at the rear of the property. San Pedro has a great coastline, with the barrier reef close in, but no real beaches, this made the garden view from our cabana perfect, and its privacy was fantastic, as at the front of the property - the same as all the waterfront properties, the beach track runs right past your gate. The location of the Cocotal was perfect for us, but It can be difficult to get back to your accommodation later on once the water taxi stops running around 11 pm. You would have to brave the mosquitos and take a golf buggy taxi down a very bumpy road or walk beyond this time.
The cabana has just recently been added, so everything was new & in great condition. The small kitchenette was perfect for preparing meals, which we did almost every day as eating out on San P is expensive.
The Cabana has everything you need to enjoy your trip, and your hosts Raul & his wife - who must work for the CIA as no-one seems to know her name!!! and Beulah will do anything to make your trip a breeze. Take advantage of the pool & the hammocks on & near the jetty. We had the place to ourselves most days. We also used the complimentary bikes to ride into town & up the coast, and the Kayaks.
Bars we tried were the Agbol, Cocoa Beach pool bar & the Tackle box - which is probably the first place you'll hit when you disembark the ferry from Belize city. All were very good but the burgers at the Tackle box were amazing.
One of the main reasons we visited San P was to dive. We used a guide and dive master called Scuba Steve who has an office on San Pedro waterfront near Big Daddies bar. Steve was a fantastic dive master and became a friend for life!! We also Aqua scuba situated next to the Tackle box.

We had a great vacation at Cocotal. You're at the quieter end of the island, no cars allowed - just golfcarts. The accomodations are very nice, with kitchens, and there is only room for 12 people. If you want to go to dinner, you can walk or call for a water taxi - what a way to get to dinner! You can rent a golf cart or bike to go into town to pick up provisions. We scuba dived, and the shop came and picked us up by boat. We went to the mainland for a ruins tour, and the boat came and picked us up for that too. The Inn has kayaks and we kayaked out to the reef to snorkle - an abundance of small fish. That was a great afternoon. The staff is very accomodating and Mara, the resident dog, made us feel like we were at home. If you're looking for that kind of vacation, you won't be disappointed.
