La Perla Del Caribe
Ranked #30 of 55 Hotels in San Pedro

Let me start out by saying if you are looking for a place to stay that has restaurants and a bar on site, this is not the place for you. But if you are looking for a place to relax, have a great weekend with friends and family, willing to try new things and experience new places, this is the place. If you visit their website the videos do not do in justice. The place was beautiful, clean, spacious. From the beginning you are met at the airport by taxi that is arranged for you. The driver will stop off at the local stores for you to purchase food and drink that you may want for the first couple days. Then you are transported to a water taxi for the trip out to La Perla. Once there you are met on the dock by either Renee or Toshiba. Wonderful men that make sure you are settled in and all your questions are answered. These two were at our beck and call when ever we had questions about the villa, the island, excursions, resturants, really anything.
We had a group of 10 and did things together but also apart. We did purchase the 7 day water taxi pass for traveling back and forth to San Pedro and the other resorts on the island. It was worth it considering we traveled up and down the island often. La Perla was a great place to call home for a week. We had our own bedrooms and bath for privacy, but also the common areas to talk about our days and have a couple drinks with good friends. This is definately a pplace we will visit again thanks to all the efforts of Renee, Toshiba, and Blanca.

First of all, I must say that we stayed in Villa Topaz at La Perla by default. We were originally booked at Solaria for our Christmas holiday but the management company, Absolute Belize double booked our 5 bedroom villa and we had to scramble to find an alternative since we had already paid for air travel. Absolute Belize recommended La Perla as a comparable alternative however they did not have a 5 bedroom so we would need to rent a 3 bedroom and a 2 bedroom as a higher cost.
Both villas at La Perla were beautiful. Our family of 4 stayed in Villa Topaz. It was stunning at first glance. Spacious rooms and interesting island decor with a huge dining table to accommodate our Christmas Eve and Christmas dinner for 10 people. We especially enjoyed the large outside deck overlooking the property and water as well as the hammock room off the master. Although, the villa was incredible spacious it only had three bedrooms two of which only had one bed. It has a huge bonus room on the bottom floor with a large sectional and TV (the only one in the villa). This room was very dark and cavernous and since no screens on the doors to outside we never used the space. We also found that the decor on closer inspection was a bit tired. The outdoor lounge chair cushions were faded and ripped and the white linen drapery had stains. We found the resort as a whole had some furnishings in disrepair as well. There were only 7 lounge chairs at the pool, one of which had it's back torn. There were 5 kayaks for the guests use however only 3 paddles. We were also told that the resort had its own boat that could be used for the guests transportation free of charge. We asked if we could get a ride to town rather than wait and pay for the water taxi but was told that it wasn't used for those purposes.
I will say that the staff was very attentive and aimed to please. Rene checked in with us most mornings to see if he could help with anything and Toshiva was very helpful as well.
As a whole, we thoroughly enjoyed are visit to Belize and our stay at La Perla but feel that the 40% upcharge for the holiday week was definitely out of line. I would recommend La Perla at the low season rates and then you would feel like you got what you paid for.
Some tips:
La Perla is pretty far from San Pedro and golf carts are out of the question. The road is mostly impassable. Order at least minimum food from Mata Grande Grocery and have it delivered prior to your arrival. It is about a mile walk down the beach so you probably do not want to carry much. Loved Mata Chica for dinner but not crazy about Portofino. We hired personal chefs for both Christmas Eve dinner and Christmas dinner. Christmas Eve we used Cookie and Jorge Barrera at jorgebarrera19@yahoo.com. On Christmas night we hired Delsia from Chefs for Hire at chefsforhirebelize@gmail.com. Both meals were delicious and ran about $42pp for food, cooking and clean up. I recommend planning a chef for early in your stay since there was tons of leftovers!
Belize was a beautiful country with a very laid back feel and incredibly nice people.

Staying at LaPerla was like a dream come true! From the moment we stepped off the water ferry from Belize City to San Pedro, staff was waiting for us. We spent four nights in the Villa Amber...check it out! Rene helped us with our tours, all we had to do was show up. His recommendations were spot on. As I was packing to leave, I realized I had misplaced one of my favorite earrings. I mentioned this to Rene and by the time we reached the airport, I had my earring back. Amazing!!

Room Tip: We stayed in a two bedroom. I believe most of the other villas have more rooms. I think the Villa Am...

I was ready to cry when I walked down the dock to take a water taxi to leave La Perla. It was an amazing vacation at a wonderful place with helpful, kind people helping us when we needed help and letting us be when we didn't. Rene (the coordinator at La Perla) was excellent. He set up our tours with ease and had some great suggestions as well. Shop in town and cook your own meals in the villas. Or visit Portofino for a great dinner/smoothies/johnnycakes. Matachica is great too -- beautiful settings for both restaurants. Don't go to Jambel's -- it was not a good experience and was very expensive. Restaurants are pricey in the northern part of the island, but the southern side has many inexpensive options. We went to Estel's Dine by the Sea and had a delicious typical Belizean meal of stewed chicken, coconut rice and beans, and coleslaw for a mere US$7! Rent bikes at Joe's in the town and cruise along the beach back to the La Perla villas -- a much cooler trip than the water taxi.

Do not miss snorkeling at Hol Chan! It was an underwater world you don't want to miss. We saw sea turtles, spotted eagle rays, octopus, fish, and many kinds of coral. We also went to Lamanai Mayan ruins. It is a long trip (around 11 hours) but amazing to see. Atop the large temple you can see for miles.

La Perla was wonderful. Rene was great. Belize was a fantastic country too and the people were very friendly, helpful, and kind. I hope to come back to this paradise one day!

We spent two weeks relaxing in Villa Opal, La Perla del Caribe, Belize. At + 28C it is a long way from the -28C we left behind! La Perla is its own little neighborhood. Twelve private homes along the beach roughly 5 miles from San Pedro. A quick 20 minute ride on the Coastal Express and you are in the heart of town. Four restaurants within walking distance. A cool little grocery store about 15 min walk down the beach. Kayaks at our disposal; a beautiful swimming pool in which to escape the heat; fishing off the dock; a poolside barbecue to fry up our catch; fully equipped kitchen etc. Our family of 5 had a wonderful, relaxing time. We even rented bicycles and rode to Ak'Bol for a little yoga on the dock. Another day we had a yoga teacher come to our spacious deck for a private yoga class followed by massages. We all enjoyed a snorkeling trip to Shark Ray alley and then lunch on a neighboring island called Caye Caulker. The trip to Altun Ha and Marauba Jungle Spa is definitely worth the adventure. Belize is everything we read about on Trip Advisor and we understand now why Ambergris Caye was voted as the number 1 island in 2013.

We were a French familly staying at La Perla on holiday, rented a 5 bedroom villa and were stunned at our arrival how they were decorated with such good taste! The staff itself is very helpful, and will do anything to make you feel comfortable and relaxed!

That is the word: relaxed! Whether you feel like reading your book in your Hammock on your veranda in front of your bedroom with a beautiful sea view, or chill around the swimming pool (using the barbecue at your disposal), or even using the sun beds available on the pier...

Even if you feel more dynamic, you could go snorkelling/diving with stingrays and nurse sharks, or near the coral reef, rent a golf car to shop for groceries and local products, take the coastal express to go to a yoga class, or in the town crowd to have a tasty meal in the numerous local restaurants.

So yeah, La Perla is the place to be, in San Pedro.

Upon arriving at La Perla, Luis greeted us at the dock & took us to our Villa. We Stayed at Villa Topaz. Place was kept clean, nice & neat as well as the grounds. Private as it is situated back from the beach but still had a nice view of the ocean. We had a full kitchen stocked with pots & pans but couple of the pans needed replacing as the Teflon was all scratched up & rust was on the surface of the pans. Luckily, there was another pan in better shape. Also of the week stay, we only had 2 days of WiFi. At night there was no connection. Other than that, the place was great. We did make us of the kayaks available at no charge. Luis had made arrangements for us for one of the tours. Traveling into San Pedro Town, Matachica, a resort located a short walk had a courtesy boat ride for their guests but they were really nice & had given us a ride to & from as we did have breakfast & dinner there (food is really good!). They have a daily schedule of when the boat comes & goes. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay & had a great time!
