“Can't wait to go back!!!”
Reviewed June 2, 2009

This was the perfect place for a relaxing vacation. It had everything that we wanted - comfortable accomadations w/ air conditioned bedroom, clean beach, quiet, good food, great scuba and snorkeling. My husband and I booked for one week and after two days we were sorry we didn't plan for a longer vacation.

This is not the place to stay if you are looking to live large (Belize style anyway) or party all night in town at the bars. This is the perfect place to come if you want to get away and just relax. The setting is idyllic, about a 30 minute boat ride up the coast from San Pedro, hammocks hang between palm trees, comfortable beach lounges are scattered along the private beach, the reef is only a few hundred yards off making snorkeling there a breeze (though they do provide you with a kayak if that is more to your liking), and the sound of the waves will lull you into an island state of mind. You can actually feel the stress melt away as you soak up the Belizian sun. The constant breeze is another plus as it keeps you cool in the sun and the mosquitos away.

We arrived in San Pedro, got in the taxi the hotel provided, and thanks to a tip from another reviewer we stopped at the grocery store to pick up a few things for the room (chips, salsa, cheese, crackers, beer, granola bars, etc.) and then Gordo and Isobel were waiting for us at the dock to take us the rest of the way by boat. It was an easy and comfortable trip 30 minute boat trip. Once there, our bags were efficiently delivered to our room as we sipped a fantastic rum cocktail and got the lay of the land. You just have to love a place where the motto is "no shirt, no shoes, no problem"!!!!

The resident dive master, Roy, took us on a day trip to Hol Chan and for lunch at Caye Caulker. This is an experience I would recommend to everyone. Billy made arrangements for us to do other trips while there, diving at the Blue Hole, and a trip back to mainland Belize for rainforrest ziplining and cave tubing. On days when were lounged around the entire staff made us feel welcome - as if we were part of the family. They even made a special coconut pie from coconuts grown on the property when they learned it was my favorite.

If you are there over a weekend, the wife of "the turtle man" (a local man who has been doing research on sea turtles for years and who lives right up the beach - look him up on line) can make you a pizza and/or homemade sweet rolls and deliver them to your room.

Carlos and Isobel, the new management team, are sharp and on the ball. They do everything in their power to make you feel welcome and comfortable. I would recommend this resort to anyone and everyone!

Our trip to Tranquility Bay was wonderful! The staff are very helpful. Especially, Bill, he was the best at helping us w/anything we requested. We got to meet the new managers Carlos and Isabelle. Hope your baby is doing well!!! So the resort was in transition, but I believe that C & I will do a great job w/the resort. I saw the review about the money being stolen from someone's room. When we expressed our dismay at not having a safe in the room, Bill insisted we put our extra cash and passports in the hotel safe... Bill is the man.
so, I'm glad to hear you're putting safes in the rooms now.

The beach is beautiful is an understatement. Yes there is detritus on the beach headed north of the resort, so be aware of that. My husband and I actually made a game out of who could find the most interesting item. He found a ping pong ball that he brought home as a souvenir. That being said the water is divine all around the resort w/little pools all to yourself. Watching tiny colorful crabs and stingrays was one of my favorites.

Pani took us snorkeling. He is a delight and does know the history of the Island. My husband loved him but I was a little worn out w/his constant talking. But lovable all the same.

I hope Buddy the dog is doing ok!!! He became our constant companion the last 2 days of vacation. He was the sweetest little guy.

The rooms are spacious and clean. Be aware that there is almost a constant 10-30 mph wind that can be disconcerting at first.

The constant crash of the waves on the reef was very calming.

Also be aware that if you like to roam around like we do on vacation, that it's not as easy from this resort. If you want somewhere to go and plant yourself on the beach and read/kayak/snorkel and walk the beach. This is it. Bring your own entertainment... small radio, games, books as there are no TV/phones. Yay!

Definitely buy yourself some snacks/fruit/water in town as there is no gift shop at the resort. There is a microwave and a fridge. So if you forgot anything, get it in town (yes it's expensive, but buy it becuz you'll need it). There is the tackle box restaurant, but it's nice not to have to go there for every meal. For me the food was mediocre to good... and a little limited but I'm a tough critic and they are open to accommodating your requests if they can.

We took the river cave excursion w/zip line. The zip was a little disappointing but only becuz we had done it in Costa Rica and were comparing them.

Overall a great experience.

nestled away from it all, this paradise resort is a place where all your worries melt away and one can appreciate and reflect on the important stuff in life.

small resort, the managers know you by name and keep track of your schedule easily. the rooms are amazing, almost like renting a house. but dont get stuck in the one bedroom they have in the back which doesnt have a loft, we requested to be put in a room like the ones wwe expected and they quickly accomodated us. spectacular views, the beach is the best on the island. the restaurant is exceptional, you will not find a place like this anywhere else. it extends out onto the ocean, almost touching the reef, and the wildlife from the deck, itself, is enough to fill your trip with stories. we ended up leaning towards more adventure with diving and snorkeling, so we had to ride into town each day and they do charge you for the trip, and none of the town vendors wants to take you way out here. so i would say its best for those who plan on relaxing. take raid, a tiki candle, and mosquito repelant. swing by teh grocery store and get drinks and snacks before you go to the resort. apparently breakfast is complimentary, we did not know this.
i'm telling you things exactly the way we experienced it. however, we have no complaints. it was an amazing experience that i'm so glad to have experienced with my husband, we flew out to the caye on a 3 people jet, the taxi was awaiting our arrival at the airport, then the boat was awaiting us on the dock (call to make sure they know what time to pick you up). we escaped to this secluded romantic paradise, and we just cherished every minute of it...the loft, the a/c bedroom downstairs, having tea when we woke up to our beachside view every morning. walks along the beach...it was all just pure tranquility.lol. and it does look just liek the pictures.

Glad you enjoyed your stay. Sorry you had to do so much traveling to town to dive. Since you have been here we have hired a Dive master/Tour guide and he has been taking guests right out in front of Tranquility Bay. We have been hearing stories of pristine conditions, large turtles, Eagle Rays, and even a couple of Manatees!! Looking forward to having you back at the resort soon!

My husband and I visited Belize for our honeymoon - we stayed at Tranquility Bay the first part of our trip. We had a wonderful time and plan to return for our five year anniversary if not before (we just have to save up:). The staff, the food, the accommodations and the location were great!! We enjoyed every minute. We took advantage of the kayaks and snorkeling equipment, which are included with the room – the reef is about 100 yards from the beach - it was great to be able to go snorkling and kayaking any time we wanted. The resort has a great atmosphere – peaceful and relaxing – it’s a beautiful property with miles of white sand beaches in either direction… No lines, no crowds – it was awesome. As a side note, we were very thankful for the a/c in the bedroom…. The game and book library was also a great addition as there are no TVs in the rooms. We utilized both….

We highly recommend Tranquility Bay as a destination for anyone traveling to Belize…. It's a bit off the beaten path - a 30min. boat ride from town but once you settle into the quite location you'll find you have a whole paradise all to yourself!! The hotel's boat makes daily trips to town so we never felt stranded:)....

Family, friends, fun, all was had at the Tranquility Bay Resort. Our group consited of family ages 2 to 69 years of age. The Cabanas were absolutly great. They were a 2 bedroom, two bath house with a patio on the beach. The beach is pristine, clean and the grounds are well maintained. We had a guide named Pani, this man is a wealth of information and history of the area. We want on snorkeling trips, fishing excurions, a jungle tour with zip lines and cave exploring. The Tackle Box Bar took care of our drink wishes and prepaired local food to die for as well as great hamburgers. The staff bent over backwards to take care of our every wish. This resort was a great family get away.

The location of the resort was perfect for me--the last resort beyond which stretched miles (more than 2 ) of unpopulated beach. This, however, might not appeal to everyone. The beach beyond also had extensive flotsam deposits in the form of thousands of plastic bottles of all shapes and sizes and similar unpaired shoes by the hundreds--a very interesting array of beach combing sights but terribly ecologically unfriendly. The resort beach was faithfully groomed each morning and was perfect.

The cabanas were very comfortable. I brought a microwave-safe bowl from home and was able to prepare lunches and dinners in house. The dishware provided was only dinner plates, shallow bowls, cups and glasses. We were taken to a local grocery store on arrival at San Pedro; however I was not impressed by the selection. Fortunately a produce stand was steps away so I purchased fruit and vegetables enough to last our stay.

There was some problem with the housekeeping staff in that they could not seem to remember which cabanas were finished and which were cleaning in progress. This is strange since there are only 10 cabanas and not all were occupied. When we left for a bit we locked up and upon returning found the cabana fully opened with the towels on the floor and cleaning supplies on the porch, which remained the rest of the day until we complained. The fact that the door was left unlocked and propped open was disturbing. Although isolated, there are locals that walk along the beach or use bicycles through the resort. Some measure of security is needed.

We were curious and hopeful regarding fishing at the resort; however, the resort is in the reserve and no fish can be harvested. We did see local boys spearfishing well into the reserve. The fishing from the resort dock yielded the tiny fish that congregated there. Large fish came swimming by but would not be enticed by bait or lures at any time of the day or night. We made arrangements for a half day fishing trip with a former guide and resort manager by the name of Pany, who ended up standing us up by going out with another party. Our quickie replacement reef fishing trip was a waste of time. I mention this aspect of our trip to warn people that, although fishing is touted by most resorts, the catching is something else. The prices are expensive for an organized trip, but this is probably necessary if one wants to catch to eat fish. It probably would be wise to arrange this in advance and use the recommended guides listed in the Belizeforum.com
or other travel forum.

The possibility of fly fishing for bone fish in the area is mentioned, but we did not see any evidence of fish in the flats. The condo resort, Sueno Del Mar, which is the closest neighbor and a few hundred yards down the beach, attracts fly fisherpersons. There are mud flats there and a lagoon a long walk north by way of the beach. For some reason information about the lagoon was purposely withheld from us and from another resort client. Being on the map and close to the beach as well as part of the reserve it seemed a no brainer to visit. Fortunately a Sueno client was a regular visitor so we were able to locate the trail. For those who visit, however, boots are necessary to get through the 8 inch deep mud.

The resort prices include breakfast at the Tackle Box and this was very good. We did not eat there for lunch or dinner.

All in all, the resort is great. Some aspects of staffing caused us grief--misinformation, etc., but these problems seem to be encountered everywhere these days.

Thank-you for your review. Since your vacation all of the housekeeping staff have been changed and keeping Cabanas locked and secure is a priority. We will do our best to take care of the issues that your brought up!
