“I felt so Unwelcomed”
Reviewed September 5, 2011

My husband and I decided to take a walk down the beach from our resort and we ended up at Matachica. We decided to have dinner and were asked if we had reservations. We responded no and were told that they would, "have to see if there was room". We looked around the dining area to see if maybe we missed something, but we saw that there were maybe 2-3 tables occupied in the entire establishment. We were seated and service was exceptionally slow. We felt it was good food, but overpriced and the staff was rude. We had no desire to go back.
Another night a couple that we had become friends with at our resort asked if we wanted to share a boat to dinner at a restaurant they were going to, Mambo. We said sure and made reservations ahead of time for two tables for two. (it was our honeymoon and their romantic vacation) We were surprised when we pulled up to Matachica, but turns out their restaurants name is Mambo. We decided to give it a second chance seeing as how we had reservations this time. We couldn't have been more wrong about it all. The staff didn't even have our reservation, and then proceeded to say that would, "have to see if there was room" in their empty dining area! We were the first ones seated for dinner and first to order. We ordered drinks, appetizer, and entree all at once since we already knew the menu. They seated maybe 4 other tables and they all got dinner and drinks before us. By the time we got dinner and drinks we were ready to leave. We ate and had to sit around for over 15 minutes for the table to be cleared and after we asked for the check the waitress just disappeared. (she wasn't scurrying around the restaurant either...everyone had already finished their food and left at this point) We finally paid her and fled as quickly as possible due to our disappointment once again.
Oh, and the atmosphere was very trendy and stuffy...not what I expected in a restaurant on the beach in San Pedro.
The food is the only saving grace here.

“Mhmm…Mambo Restaurant”
Reviewed August 10, 2011

The reputation of being an award-winning restaurant and one of the best in the country definitely precedes Mambo Restaurant at Matachica. Our expectations were surely surpassed when we were invited for dinner during our stay at the ultra chic resort in north Ambergris Caye. check out our Review: http://www.ambergristoday.com/content/restaurant-review/2011/march/21/mhmm%E2%80%A6mambo-restaurant

“Fun Atmosphere & Great Appetizers”
Reviewed August 1, 2011

My husband & I ate here during our anniversary trip.

The bar area has a billiards table (which is fun, but has taken a beating with the wind and salty ocean air). The cocktails were great and we enjoyed them while we waited for a table.

We didn't have a reservation, but they were very accommodating. We sat on the patio at a table for two, complete with an umbrella with lights all over it.

We weren't extremely hungry, so we shared several appetizers... and enjoyed them all!

The menu was a little pricey - but I imagine it's expensive to get quality ingredients imported to the island.

This would be a good option for a romantic dinner for a couple!

“Expensive and mediocre”
Reviewed June 23, 2011

The concierge at Las Terrazas recommended that we go to Mambo Restaurant at Matachica resort. We were told that the food was great and the ambiance was romantic... I'm not sure that I'd really agree with either. The restaurant is actually pretty big, so it is kind of noisy and sort of cheesy... The food is good but it didn't compare to the rest of the food that we ate on our trip. The next night we went to Caliente in San Pedro and paid half the price for food that was mind-blowing...It is really nice that they send a water taxi to come pick you up and drop you off at your hotel... but I'd say it is safe to skip Mambo altogether... just isn't worth it.

“It pays to cater to your customers”
Reviewed June 9, 2011

What set's Mambo apart? They cater to their clientele...If you are familiar with Ambergris Caye, you know the coastal express water taxi is the key mode of transportation...$6 US per person each way can add up quickly...Mambo will pick you up with their boat if you are coming for dinner...The food at Mambo is very good and they are willig to make modifications to their menu items...(we had one who wanted stir fry without tofu and they gave her shrimp (it did cost extra to make the swap)...great last night on the island...
