This restaurant is tucked in the back seemingly behind what probably was there original building. Which is why other potential patrons thought it was closed...but it's not! If you are looking for an authentic soul food restaurant in Albany, this is it! This family owned restaurant is a favorite of locals and out-of-towners alike. They greet the locals by name and make everyone feel right at home.

The food is delicious. Fried chicken, BBQ Chicken, Oxtails, Fried Fish, Ribs, Mac and cheese, yams, collards, dressing, green beans and the list goes on and on and everything is good! With a glass of sweat tea, you left very satisfied. Prices are pretty reasonable about $10 a plate and is served cafeteria style.

Not for fine dining but definitely good dining none the less.

I liked Sunset Grill for the best homemade chips I ever tasted. The French Dip, while a little short on the beef, was quite tasty. Unfortunately, it's closed now.

Tucked on behind the Heritage Bank, Carter's always has outstanding southern style food. Yes the Fried Chicken is great, but the real claim to fame ins the varietu and quality of the Southern Veggies!

I should probably throw it out there that I am a young (21 years old) white female. To begin, this place had really great food for super reasonable prices. I ordered a dark meet special (two legs and a thigh, rice w/gravy, corn bread, collard greens, and sweet tea) for only $3.95. The only unfortunate part about the experience was how many times I got asked for money or cigs only a block away from the place. It happened about ten times on the way there then three times while I was inside the restaurant. Some of the service is friendly, most is not. If you are walking do not.. do not... go down jackson then take highland. just go the extra block and turn in there. Overall. its great food. everyone should try it.
