“Gorgeous resort!”
Reviewed October 24, 2011

Went for only 1 night -- 2 familes, 3 kids... Our cabin was incredible; staff was very friendly and accomodating; so much to do -- bikes, horses, fishing, hiking, spa, great food! Wish we could've stayed for a week! Kids loved it. We'll be back real soon, and next time we'll stay longer!

I had heard of Barnesley Gardens but did not realize what a jewel it was until arriving one beautiful fall afternoon. We had a delightful time playing golf and hiking the trails. The service was top notch and the room was cozy but very up to date with all the amenities. Having the porch off our room for evening cocktails at sunset and early morning coffee watching the sun come up was just the thing to take the stress away. Restaurant food and ambiance were excellent. Can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are in cottages with joint sitting areas. some of the cottages are closer to the r...

A little out of the way, but if you want to get away...
Beautiful property and setting. The rooms were well appointed and spacious. Very nice restaurants and golf course.
A little pricey but very nice!

Awesome experience. The rooms were wonderful this weekend. Sat by the fireplace all Sunday afternoon and evening enjoying football.....evening soak bath in the clawfooted bathtub, and a restful sleep in the king size bed. 18 holes of golf today. Food was great (plenty to eat), service was wonderful, and the golf and scenery was spectacular. Great golf pro Allen Pinson....very courteous and helpful. Would encourage anyone to come here...plenty to do if you like to hike, exercise or just plain ole relax. Very quiet and peaceful.

This was my second time staying at Barnsley, and I enjoyed it as much as my first stay. The property is starting to show a little age in places, but overall it is still a top shelf resort. The weather was very hot during our stay, so we spent a lot of time at the pool. We also had a great meal at the clubhouse restaurant and enjoyed a walk around the beautiful gardens. We discovered that, with early or late in the day lighting, it is virtually impossible to take a bad photograph at the gardens. If you haven't stayed at the resort before, don't hesitate to give it a shot.

We visited with our family of teenagers during midweek and thankfully received midweek pricing, we would have felt really cheated if we had paid full price as our unit left us feeling unfullfilled. The Wheaton Cottage was spectacular looking, well decorated and a good size for our family of 5, only it was inundated with Golden Raintree Bugs at both the front and back entrances, and inside our unit. We also had a large palmetto type bug as well as numerous dead and live spiders. It was apparent the corners in this lovely unit had not been cleaned in quite some time and little if any exterminating done. The pool seemed to have a good amount of bugs as well. The staff at Barnsley makes a big deal to greet you when you arrive, and after that service is quite spotty. We did however enjoy the activites on the grounds; the canoes, the pool, the spa (very slippery steps though!) tennis, hiking, horseback riding (great tour guide!) badminton, other lawn games, and the scenery. The food was decent, although overpriced for the quality-and an automatic 20% gratuity is added on, our servers would have deserved that anyway but we prefer to make that decision. Service in the restaurant was generally superb. Housekeeping on the otherhand promised turndown service, and we struggled to even so much as get them to make the sofa sleeper up - not what we expect at resorts of this level, and they do not turn down the beds, or add chocolates or anything else. We were constantly out of shampoo, and once even toilet paper. The Beer Garden was being used by a private party and the smores you hear about were no where in sight during our 3 nights. Over all, so much potential, but that was lost on us since the bugs were so overabundant it made relaxing in our cottage difficult. We did call for maintenance to spray, but they really need to exterminate more and clean all the spider webs inside. Had just stayed at a B&B in the same area for the first 2 nights of our trip and never had a bug in our unit, or outside, and found relaxation at the end of the day much easier to come by. Barnsley also really seems more geared for corporate groups than families.
