Description: The Original Pancake House was founded in Portland, Oregon in 1953 by Les Highet and Erma Hueneke. Drawing upon their many years of experience in the culinary field, and their extensive working knowledge of authentic national and ethnic pancake recipes they were able to offer without compromise this unique and original menu which has gained national acclaim. Our recipes demand only the very finest of ingredients, such as 93 score butter, pure 36% whipping cream, fresh grade AA eggs, hard wheat unbleached flour, and our own recipe sourdough starter. Welcome to our house, we’re serving up the Next Best Thing to Breakfast in Bed!

We've eaten breakfast here twice within the last month. Both were good and very filling meals. I would have been content with a children's portion of French toast, but there was no such option. The seniors meals are a good choice for those of us with modest appetites. Pancakes were good, with a variety of fruit and nut additions, the French toast just right, the hash and eggs good. Fresh squeezed orange juice is available, Breakfast with OJ for 2 with tips ran about $30. We will return when we're back in the area.

Initially we were discouraged by the long line and how many people were waiting even outside on benches...BUT... after a 20 minute wait, we were seated and immediately brought our drinks. Then you truly notice the hustle and bustle of this establishment. Clearly they have plenty of food runners, waitresses and cooks to handle the amount of guests. Within about 10 min. our food arrived. Normally I don't love thick-sliced bacon, but this was fried to perfection, the right amount of crispiness, but still chewy, not overcooked at all. The largest French toast I have ever seen! This appeared to be a fresh Cuban type bread at least 3/4 o 1" thick, nicely browned in an egg batter, served with fresh butter. Beautiful! I also have to mention the fresh orange juice machine. If I had seen it earlier, I would definitely have ordered some. As the waiters would put a glass under the spout, fresh oranges would tumble down into the machine making fresh-squeezed. awesome! Impressed? Definitely! Worth the wait? Oh yes. The waitress we had said the weekends are always that busy. And it appeared to us that it was mostly locals. If we visit here again - we will definitely be back.

Happened upon this restaurant one rainy morn and the experience was sunshine. Most accommodating wait-staff, broad menu - Eggs Benedict were terrific, tons of choices for special pancakes, waffles, and egg dishes. Attractive interior decor.
Have been back three times -always for breakfast- it is a very popular restaurant- the earlier you go the better. Each waitress we have had - has been so cordial and efficient. Love that! Of course, we will return!

What do 4 starving women want the morning after a wedding in Miami? PANCAKES.

We saw the solid reviews of the Original Pancake House and decided, well, it's either this or Denny's. We made the right choice.

Our lovely waitress immediately saw the need for excessive amounts of coffee and was super accommodating with all of our special requests (buckwheat, egg whites, etc). Food was served very fast, and the bill was less than $10 a person. Can't beat that.
