I did not do the float trip; rather, my trip started at the Wekiwa Springs launch point then I paddled up the run to the first camp site. The water was a little lower than expected but still manageable. It was not hard to tell I was under the influence of a different set of springs once I turned left onto the run. The flow was swift but generally one that is manageable. I would not necessarily recommend paddling up the run for a beginner but if they paid attention and have a sense of river skills, the trip is well worth the effort. There are points where the run meanders over sand bars in and among the lilies. On the trip I saw a half dozen deer, turtles and several hundred birds. I ran out of time once I neared the camp site so I turned around and headed back to the state park. I will return.
Suggestions are to arrive early. I can see where the park would fill fast on a warm sunny weekend day.
